HOLY (gun)smoke! Am I dreaming??? Uber liberal Senator Bernie Sanders just made an incredible — almost surreal — confession!
The Washington Examiner is reporting that Sanders was appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, when he said that a gun manufacturer should be no more responsible for a murder performed by their product than a hammer manufacturer is responsible “if someone beat someone over the head with a hammer.”
And then he came out with THIS: “The majority of gun owners are responsible and obey the law.”
Sanders was taking on detractors who have pointed to a bill he voted for that shields firearms manufacturers from being sued by gun violence victims. Presidential rival Hillary Clinton made reference to this bill in New Hampshire Saturday, saying that it was the “height of irresponsibility not to talk about it.”
Ok Mrs. Clinton let’s do talk about it. If you cut yourself shaving are you going to sue Gillette? If your hair dye turns out badly are you going to sue Lady Clairol? If you eat too much are you going to sue Little Debbie Hostess Cakes? Yes, we now live in a world where you have to post signs at railroad crossings: “Do Not Park On The Tracks.” But, as your opponent points out, it’s a matter of common sense and personal responsibility.
“I come form a state that has virtually no gun control but the people of my state understand that guns in Vermont aren’t the same thing as guns in Chicago,” he said.
This single interview may not be enough to bring Sanders from his D- grade with the NRA, but it does prove that in politics –as well as in gun ownership –it’s all about common sense and responsibility.
