Yesterday, we shared the fact that none of the leaders of countries which allow gay marriage are people of color. We wondered whether homosexuality is part of “white privilege” — if there is in fact “gay privilege,” which is conferred by the privileged white leadership.
Well, turns out we may be onto something, judging from this image at the 2015 Chicago Pride Parade, which was brought to a halt by #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackOutPride protesters who had their own particular agenda to push, as reported by Weasel Zippers.
The sign reads, “Rainbows are just reflected white light.” Yeah, turns out even gay pride is now racist. Does that mean the rainbow flag will soon go the way of the Confederate flag?
But what may be most interesting — and disheartening — about the above image and the actions of the groups #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackOutPride at Chicago’s pride parade is the sense that in this country, it’s now become a competition to be THE most persecuted group. It’s almost as if #BlackLivesMatter needed to reclaim its place in the spotlight amidst all the #Pride celebrations — reminiscent of a sibling who can’t stand the attention her brother is getting on his birthday.
In a nation where “opportunity” is becoming a dirty word, is persecution is taking its place as a centerpiece of the new American Dream? How sad.
