The absolutely inane reason Cuba was taken off the terror list

Let me clearly state that the pure definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing and expect different results. Furthermore, the true definition of a failed and weak foreign policy is to reward an adversary for its belligerence.

I just have to ask, what has changed about Cuba under the ruthless rule of Raul Castro? Have any imprisoned political prisoners been released? How about those terrorists and criminals from America who have asylum — have they been repatriated to our shores to face justice?

Of course not. But nonetheless, President Obama wants to take Cuba off the terror list – for good behavior.

“In his letter to Congress, Obama wrote that the Cuban government “has not provided any support for international terrorism” in the past six months, and has “provided assurances that it will not support acts of international terrorism in the future.”

SIX months. Cuba has not provided any support to international terrorism since last year November – that’s it. You know, yesterday was Tax Day. What if we’d gone some 32 years without paying any taxes and then all of a sudden, we went six full months of paying taxes — ya think the federal government would take us off the hit list?

Oops, maybe if you’re Al Sharpton you can go as long as you want without paying taxes. But Cuba supposedly hasn’t supported international terrorism for six months, and that’s good enough for the Obama administration to trust them.

Except that just yesterday FARC leftist guerillas, “a terror group long fostered by Cuba — even today, the Castro brothers are harboring several wanted members of the group — murdered 10 Colombian soldiers and wounded 17 others in a terror attack on a military base.” But we’ll just let that one slide.

Jeepers, we look abjectly incompetent as a nation.

And if we were to open up trade and economic relations, does anyone believe the fruits of that openness would filter down to the everyday Cuban? Does anyone believe the repressive communist regime will change and promote liberty, freedom, and democracy? Has Cuba renounced communism and the limits on the freedom of information for the Cuban people? What have we demanded change about Cuba?

Sure, let’s evaluate how we can do something different when it comes to relations with Cuba — but it must be done from a position of strength. Once again, the Obama doctrine of bowing, kneeling and presenting an open hand to a fist continues and there has been no demand for the Castro regime in Cuba to change its behavior. That is not normalizing relations — that is getting punked, played like a broken banjo.

According to the UK Guardian, Josefina Vidal, the Cuban foreign ministry’s chief of US affairs, said: “The Cuban government recognized the fair decision made by the president of the United States to eliminate Cuba from a list that it never should have been included on, especially considering our country has been the victim of hundreds of acts of terrorism that have cost 3,478 lives and maimed 2,099 citizens.”

This is what happens when you operate from the position of weakness — your adversary plays the victim and blames you.

The Guardian quoted a young Cuban named Dyron Hernandez who said “I think Obama is the most popular world leader right now.” Yes Dyron, Obama certainly is the most popular world leader if you’re asking Vladimir Putin, Hasan Rouhani, Xi Jingping and every Islamic terrorist group leader in the world.

He’s popular because of his misguided foreign policy and naive national security posture that doesn’t present “peace through strength” but the nonsensical idea that creating a more accommodating America will make us — well, popular and liked.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the US would continue to have differences with the Cuban government, “but our concerns over a wide range of Cuba’s policies and actions fall outside the criteria that is relevant to whether to rescind Cuba’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.”

Six months does not establish a trend for changing criteria — unless you are so starving to do something that leaves what you believe will be a lasting legacy.

Unfortunately, the only long-lasting aspect of Obama’s foreign policy is the loss of regard and respect for America.

Think a little look at history might explain what’s going on.. Many left wing nuts believe Castro’s Cuba is the perfect model for a “peoples” communist dictatorship here in the US.. A concept promoted to some degree by various members of Congress with ties to the Communist Party.. Going further back, Cuba was the destination of choice for airline hijackers.(some of them left wing radicals) back in the late 60s and early 70s.. Cuba’s also provided sanctuary for a number of left wing terrorists, including cop killers and Eric Holders Black Panther and FALN pals. During the 60s and 70s,… Read more »

It’s good for President Obama to have no moral compass. It’s good for President Obama to act only as he sees fit ignoring the will of the people. It’s all good. Pathetic!

The man us trying to move past a FAILED POLICY that’s been going on since the 60’S. NEWSFLASH TO YOU LOONS……IT DIDNT WORK!!!

Oh it worked. See there are times no matter what you can’t change evil,
and often you do things to make doing evil harder. Remember that
thousand of Cubans risked their life fleeing that country. The best
thing and maybe the only thing you can do is to keep them at bay. Now
this president is making easier for evil to get back to doing what it does
best.

OH…since it WORKED must mean Cuba is a democratic country now?? LOON LOGIC!!!

Man you are slow. Yes ultimately, we want countries to become a free democratic nation but the best we can truly hope for is that the measures we help put in place on totalitarian countries like Cuba can serve the purpose of limiting their evil intent or practices. For over 50 years that’s what’s happened. You have to be dim-witted to believe that if we don’t transform these type of countries into a free democracy we have failed.

I really don’t expect people like you to understand. I know it was hard
for you to read past the first part of my comment, but try. I kind of explained how it did work. Sound it out… The next word is “See.” Try it, it’s just one syllable.

Liberalism clouds the mind of dim witted people like you. You should not speak… I’m not saying that you don’t have the right I’m just saying that you shouldn’t.

OH…I understand….lets continued the same failed policy for another 50 years!

Do you know who this is good for? Only for the government of Cuba not it’s people. Just like North Korea. North Korea is not on the list but the only one that is fat is Kim…. I hope you get the point, but I’m not holding my breath.

Ok, that sounds good. Look Cuba has basically stayed the same since all this started. My brother-in-law is Cuban and he tells me that what ever money they now can get it will go to the Government and what the people will get, will be more oppression.

The only reason he went to Cuba was to get more undocumented democrat voters. He had to take Cuba off the terrorist list, you can’t import terrorists.

Okay lets go through this point by point. 1) “I just have to ask, what has changed about Cuba under the ruthless rule of Raul Castro? Have any imprisoned political prisoners been released? How about those terrorists and criminals from America who have asylum — have they been repatriated to our shores to face justice?” What has changed is that they’ve stopped sponsoring terrorists, they’ve stopped actively supporting terrorist activities. Which is why they’re coming off the list of state sponsors of terrorism. It’s not the list of bad people otherwise Russia and about a hundred other countries would be… Read more »

If it was just removing them from a list then you’d be right, but in reality it’s much more than that. It’s only the first step to normalize relations between the US and Cuba. I wonder if you have any Idea who that will benefit the most? The tyrannical dictatorial Government, that’s Who.

If it makes life better for the Cuban people and it will, then who cares if their government benefits too? The government of China has benefitted greatly from normalized trade relations but the Chinese people have benefitted even more from the growth of capitalism and free markets. And free trade is good for us too. We have normalized trade relations with other countries that are just as bad as Cuba. The embargo is just a relic of the Cold War from a time when they were allies of an enemy that ceased to exist in 1991. They’re not a threat… Read more »

So I wonder who the obama regime is taking off the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) and SDN (Specially Designated National) lists…communists, muslims, shining path…
