Conservatives have EPIC response to Apple’s stance against religious freedom

It’s interesting how liberal backbones seem to appear and disappear. For lefties, principals are shape-shifting concepts apparently.

Take for example, Apple CEO Tim Cook’s stance on religious freedom:

“Our message, to people around the country and around the world, is this: Apple is open. Open to everyone, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, how they worship or who they love. Regardless of what the law might allow in Indiana or Arkansas, we will never tolerate discrimination.”

“…This is about how we treat each other as human beings… Opposing discrimination takes courage. With the lives and dignity of so many people at stake, it’s time for all of us to be courageous.”

Oh really? Then why are you so eager to do business with some of the some of the most “virulently anti-gay nations on the planet” as Right Wing News puts it.

John Carroll, writing for Right Wing News says, “according to their Islamic-based governments, homosexuality is punishable by death in Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran. So not only is it willing to “tolerate discrimination” in those countries, Apple is also happy to sell an iPod to the people who are murdering gays so they can listen to some cheery music when they’re done. What these nations are doing to their gay communities is despicable and should be condemned by every decent person. We hope Tim Cook believes that as well.”

“Tim Cook says that, “Opposing discrimination takes courage,” and we agree. We call on Mr. Cook to live up to our shared principles by pulling Apple out of Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran until they stop their official government policies of jailing and murdering gays and lesbians.”

So far, two dozen prominent conservative journalists and activists have signed their name to the declaration. You can check out the full list of signers here. By the way, contrary to the left’s popular narrative, these conservatives represent the full rainbow of humanity: male, female, gay, straight, black and white. So THERE.

And maybe you might think twice about keeping that iPhone when your next upgrade is due.

Hobby Lobby is happy to do billions of dollars of business with China, land of forced abortions and mandatory contraception. Nope, no hypocrisy there.

archerb
Guest

So you’re saying Hobby Lobby is just as bad as Apple? Do you shop at Hobby Lobby? Do you own any Apple products?
I’m guessing the answers are No, and Yes.

Also, your comment is a fine example of the Tu quoque fallacy.

JoeMyGod

I don’t shop at Hobby Lobby and I don’t own any Apple products. (Too expensive.) And I’m not saying Hobby Lobby is just as bad as Apple, I am saying that they are evil hypocrites.

archerb

Why would you bring up Hobby Lobby in the comment section of an article about Apple?

ratamacue76
Guest

You haven’t ever had dealings with jmg have you? If he gets a chance to call Christians evil, he takes it. I pray for his salvation, but Romans 1:28 seems to describe this man pretty well.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the
knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

archerb

Thank you Rainbow Dash.

And No. I’ve never dealt with him… or her… or whatever. I’d still like to see his answer as to why he would bring up Hobby Lobby in an article about Apple if not to parade a fallacy.

ratamacue76

He runs the homosexual blog that is also his username. It’s basically a site used to express hatred of Christians, Jesus and generally anyone who doesn’t completely affirm the lifestyle. He used to visit my regular circle of sites a few years ago, and this is what he does … makes unrelated statements just to give himself a platform to spout off.

Rafael X
Guest

It’s not a fallacy Hobby Lobby decision is what causing all theses laws to pop up. Religious freedom was their argument.

archerb
Guest

You are confusing the birth control mandate under Obamacare with the recent recognition of gay marriage. The two are unrelated. Hobby Lobby had nothing to do with the bakery owners who have have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and lose their home, business and livelihood because they felt that making a cake for a gay wedding would violate their religious convictions.

Rafael X
Guest

Still used the same argument. Their choice to bake cakes for a living. Their choice to be religious. Can’t discriminate when you serve the public or you go under. Or make millions from the conservative hate welfare system. Their choice.

First, a private, family owned business is not there to “serve the public”. The purpose of any business is to make a profit, which becomes the owner’s paycheck. That’s econ 101 stuff. Government’s job is the “serve the public”, not a business. Next, your argument is stupid. It’s like saying, “no one forced you to speak your mind. You had a choice, stay out of jail or speak freely.” No one should have to make the choice of feeding their families or exercising their Constitutional guaranteed rights. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about exclusions for owning a… Read more »

Oh yes they are. If they advertise in the public place. No one putting anyone in jail. Just exercising the same freedom to take their business elsewhere. That’s how MLK stopped segregation in public transportation. Nothing new here.

Do you really not understand the difference between a PRIVATE company and PUBLIC transportation? If companies have to take all business, how are private schools able to refuse students, whereas public schools may not? How are restaurants able to say, “no shirt, no shoes, no service”? And, finally, more to the point of this article, how is Apple able to refuse to do business in Indiana? While no one is “going to jail”, people are being fined hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is a punishment just like jail. If they don’t pay the fines, their property, including homes will… Read more »

Progressives, high taxes, over-regulation and unions drove almost all manufacturing out of the United States. Anyone who sells anything retail other than food or recreation to end user consumers is relegated to purchasing those goods from China. We gave it to them. This has nothing to do with Hobby Lobby. This has to do with Apple. Don’t change the subject and expect anyone to pay attention to you.

archerb

So Cook is saying that he doesn’t think businesses should be allowed to reflect the moral values of the owners. So, his company is not doing business in Indiana because it passed a law Cook does not morally agree with, a law which protects business’s right to not do business with someone they morally disagree with.

The stupid is giving me a head ache.

Rafael X

Brent

You are right it is a free market so why the uproar about business not wanting to do gay weddings?

Freedomswatch

Because Rafael doesn’t believe in the free market. He believes in telling business owners who they have to serve and who they can ignore. The free market position is: Any business owner may refuse service to any customer for any reason at any time. It is also the libertarian position, but Rafael wouldn’t know that. He’s a liberal, who supports government control of the rest of us.

Rafael X

“Any business owner may refuse service to any customer for any reason at any time.” There was time that argument was used to deny black people service or to force them through the back door. It’s not the free market just license to discriminate.

this issue isn’t about discrimination, its about religious freedom. No one was refusing to bake a birthday cake for a gay person, nor refusing to bake a cake for them simply because they were gay. They were refusing to bake ONLY a wedding cake for a gay marriage because they believe gay marriage is wrong. So the issue is whether or not a person can force someone to assist them in doing something they believe is wrong and according to the constitution they can not. The constitution was written to regulate our government so it doesn’t become a totalitarian state.… Read more »

…the original premise of the 1957 and 1964 “civil-rights (for some)” acts were to prohibit “discrimination” in dealings with and by governments–not private businesses. Although somewhat well-intentioned, it has morphed into the monstrosity we live with today. “Freedom of association” was effectively abolished and replaced with (government sanctioned and forced) “public accommodation”. No longer is it acceptable to “screen your clientele”, even if it goes against your deeply-held religious convictions. Homosexuals have been targeting Christian-owned bakeries, photographers and other firms in order to harass and extract (actually extort) money from those business owners who do not support their “lifestyle”. Gracie777

Why would you want to do business with someone who doesn’t want yours?

shande123
Guest

It’s bullying — plain and simple — gays are ganging up on Christian businesses because they can, because they enjoy it when the Christians resist, and because they can gloat with sadistic satisfaction when they either force them to violate the tenets of their faith, or drive them out of business when they refuse. Either is fine, and they feel morally justified either way.

AlmaAlma
Guest

Their point is that the business should be held accountable for being biogotted and they don’t necessarily ‘want’ to do business with them, but they feel they should not be stopped. They’re conflating the Christian objection to gay marriage with that of not wanting to serve gay people.

The same reason some risk stoning by screwing around. It’s called depravity. And it IS a choice. It is giving into destructive LUSTS. But IT IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A CHOICE. So woman get stoned for getting raped in those countries they are depraved too? Ask yourself what would it take to turn you gay? Gun to your head? Fortune for the rest of your life? If you can’t make someone gay you can’t make them straight either. Those who come out of prison gay where just in the closet. Like those who pretend to be “cured” just slid back into the closet. Stay on subject. This has NOTHING to do with Apple doing business in any country they choose. It DOES have to do with the fact that they have set a particular standard for states/nations they will not do business with based upon their treatment (or falsely assumed treatment – in Indiana’s case) of homos yet they brazenly contradict their own “Standards” by doing business with a nation that not only brutalized homos but executes them and even turns a blind eye to human slavery. DID YOU GO BACK TO THE CIVIL WAR??? DEMOCRATS voted 100% to keep Blacks as slaves. 100%. Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN! I bet you even forgot that it was the Muslim’s, the Barbary Coast Pirates that captured the slaves and sold them to the Dutch to bring them here. I guess that doesn’t matter either.

Your grasp of history is sadly flawed. I’m sorry.

You should read some about the civil rights struggle. It’s a fascinating story.

Why is it that Democrats project so much hatred, yet they never acknowledge that it is THEY who have it, and we do not?

Actually, you missedt the MOST important and the only one that we hate… STUPID people like you…
The rest of your list is the list that democrats and Blacks hate. You’re simply projecting your own feelings.

First off, can you count? Two Fours? Second off, where did you get this “Right Wing Loons hate (insert whatever here)? I’m right wing, but I don’t hate anybody. I have many black and Hispanic friends that I love to hang out with. Although I don’t know many gay people, I won’t not talk to someone because of that. Since we are for having the right to religious freedom that means we hate?

With the exception of whiny activists, given the choice of straight or gay friendships, give a me gay friend ANY day of the week. Gays are warm and sincere. The whole world isn’t against you, sad for you that you haven’t figured it out, probably never will. Sucks to be you.

What’s your point what are they supposed to take responsibility for???

John Gallion

So, other than your silly rant, you have no issue with the idea that Apple only dislikes Christians and not Muslims for “hating on” gays?
There is a word for you: Idiot.
There’s also a word for Apple’s CEO: hypocrite.

I just love how you’re always bashing “right wing loons” with a lot of adjectives yet never giving any real justification as to why. Typical liberal.

Are you a cartoon character? Apple does not stand up for what they SAY they believe. They can afford to pull out of those markets and bring awareness to the truly abusive treatment in these countries. It is one thing to be denied an obscenely decorated cake by a Christian baker, and being flung off of a tall building by Muslims.

For those who say they will never buy or use another Apple product. Start now, remove Quicktime from your computers and replace it with one of the free alternate and better products. VLC, Miro, Plex and plenty of others. Apple makes money on the end user side with quicktime, it is pre-installed on every PC. It is also considered crapware in the knowledgable Computing community. Delete it, replace it with a better free product, make Cook put Apple’s investors money where his mouth is.

Been using Linux since Windblows 98 and have never had a virus, and never get adware, always works. Even one of my best friends who owns a Computer Service says he uses Linux while he’s customers are calling him to fix their Windows.

Same here. I switched to Linux years ago and never looked back. I never liked Apple’s philosophy with their walled garden and their monopolistic business practices. M$ aren’t much better. Best to use open source.

I’ve been an Open Source users since the first day TUCOWS site went live back in the late 80’s or early 90’s. (And prior to that through other means, Net, BBS, etc). Even though I have a lot of 1980’s and 90’s experience with UNIX, I have been avoiding Linux as an OS. For no other reason than I always wanted a mature product. The way things have been going for MS Linux is beginning to seem like a much better option, beginning with “Its Free”. We have some high end laptops, used for research and heavy graphics editing, for… Read more »

Stopping sales in these countries is easy. Let him go and PUBLICLY criticize Saudis or Iranians on the treatment of homosexuals and Christians…Let him demand to allow for homosexual weddings there. Let him take Bible to Saudi Arabia, if he believes what he preaches… on Apple shareholders’ dime, here in USA.

People, people, people… he has the right to be stupid, hypocrite, but we have the right not to buy his stupid iTunes, iPhone, iPads… and the rest of crap. Samsung makes better stuff anyway. Even Chinese are getting his ass kicked in the smartphone market. Sooner or later the board is going to kick his homosexual ass so hard, that the rest of the anti Christian lobby is going to notice.

Open to everyone? as a retired military veteran, I have applied no less than 20 times for jobs with Apple, and have listed my military experience in my resume, do you think I got hired? NO, I got one call, and it wasn’t even a interview. Open? BS! open to only a specific mindset.

It’s interesting that in this case… the ones discriminated against are practicing people of faith (not just Christians… most faiths). So Apple is not OK with discrimination… except when it occurs against religious people. The freedom to say “NO” was what this country was founded on.

The comments on here are
very, and I mean very funny. Can you name a single company or product any of
you do business with that does not do business in any of the countries named?
No, cause there is none. Hypocrisy or Stupidity?

Patricia
Guest

Did you miss the entire point of the article? In an effort to back Gay rights, Apple has decided to pull their products and stores in two states because they passed protection of religious freedom bills yet they have no problem keeping their products in countries whose laws call for the deaths of Gays. That is where both the hypocrisy and stupidity come in to play. Your statement that other companies do business with those countries is irrelevant.

Did you skip your research to determine if this “Point” is true . . . or not. Comment without knowledge is sheep led by wolves.

Apple didn’t pull out of Indiana. That’s just a story the blogosphere made up.

BTZ4455
Guest

Again, the whole point IS NOT whether Apple is/might/maybe/whatever pulling out of Indiana, or anywhere, IT IS THAT THE CEO IS SHOOTING HIS MOUTH OFF, AS IF INDIANA IS “GAY HELL” WHILE HIS COMPANY (OR THE COMPANY HE MAKES MANY MILLIONS RUNNING) IS MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO BUSINESS IN, MAKE MILLIONS OR BILLIONS IN COUNTRIES THAT TRULY ARE GAY HELL, WHERE THEY LITERALLY WILL KILL PEOPLE FOR BEING GAY!!! THE POINT IS THE CEO IS A HYPOCRITE BEYOND BELIEF!!!!

reticle

Apple can disapprove of Qatari bigotry and still sell them iPhones, just like Apple can disapprove of Hoosier bigotry and still sell iPhones in Indiana. That’s not what the word ‘hypocrisy’ means.
