Saudi-born GITMO prisoner will get $1.5 million from U.K. government upon release

Here in the West, we are truly ignorant when it comes to understanding the modern 21st century battlefield — ok, not all of us, but a lot of folks — and particularly those in Washington D.C.

You don’t have to listen to me, just take a look at the response from Jordan — and now the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is back in the fight. They get it. We don’t, we are losing, and we must develop a strategy and not the drivel Susan Rice presented this past Friday at the Brookings Institute — this is not about self-spun alarmism. We don’t need hundreds of thousands of troops. We just need a focused strategy and commitment to defeat the enemy, not rhetoric.

There has been no document of capitulation, no terms of surrender. And President Obama’s unilateral statement to “end combat operations” means little to nothing. Therefore, no onus exists to repatriate these unlawful enemy combatants to continue conducting their heinous actions against the world. And to have heard some chucklehead last week blame GITMO orange uniforms on the actions of Islamic State was perhaps one of the most absurd statements I’ve recently heard — and between words from Obama and Susan Rice this past week, that’s saying a lot.

But this story from the U.K. Telegraph is yet another indicator we’re failing.

“The last British detainee to be released from Guantanamo is in line for a £1 million payment from the U.K. government – despite claims of his terror links to al-Qaida in official US documents.”

“Shaker Aamer has languished in Guantanamo for an astonishing 13 years, seven years longer than any other British citizen or resident. The campaign to ensure his release has been stepped up in recent months with David Cameron raising his plight on a trip to the White House in January. Barack Obama promised in return to “prioritize the case” and Aamer has been cleared for release.”

“Aamer, a Saudi Arabian citizen, had been living in London prior to travelling to Afghanistan with his family in 2001. He insists he went there to open a school and run a charity while the U.S. authorities have accused him of being a senior al-Qaida figure, who acted as a ‘special interpreter’ for Osama bin Laden, was trained in the handling of explosives, and with had alleged links to terror networks both in the U.K. and U.S.”

“When he is finally freed, Aamer will be entitled to a compensation payment of about £1 million. Similar sums were given to other British detainees of Guantanamo in a scheme agreed by the Government to head off what it believed would be costly and embarrassing court cases that would drag U.K. intelligence services into the dock.”

Ok, let me explain this in simple southern vernacular — the U.K. government is about to unload about $1.5 million to an Islamic terrorist so he won’t take them to court. Do you doggone understand how absolutely insane that sounds?

The Brits are about to compensate a terrorist? And who says Islamic terrorism doesn’t pay? We’ve reported here about the billions of dollars given to Hamas to “rebuild” schools and infrastructure in Gaza — and this was after the most recent combat operations between Israel and the Islamic terrorist organization where countless underground tunnels were uncovered, the result of prior funding for “infrastructure” to Gaza.

If I were a British taxpayer I’d be absolutely livid. So let me understand, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron is lobbying our Senate against restoring sanctions against Iran. But he’s advocating for the release of an unlawful enemy combatant, an Islamic terrorist, so he can write this cheeky fella a million pound check?

What message does that send to these Islamists? And Prime Minister Cameron, when I read this, I just about choked on my grits. You’ve gotta be kidding right?

Let me remind you all about Islamic charities, like the Holy Land Foundation — look it up and what they were doing here in America.

The Mail says, “The compensation settlements were announced by Kenneth Clarke, then Justice Secretary, in November 2010. The details have been kept confidential but the payouts are widely accepted to have amounted to £1 million for each detainee, including U.K. residents as well as those with British citizenship. The Foreign Office refused last week to discuss any possible payout to Aamer, but the legal precedent set five years ago will make it impossible to resist any claim he makes. His lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, said: “He hasn’t got any money and he can’t do anything while he is locked up.”

So are we going to release Aamer so he can get his payday?

“Robin Simcox, a research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society, a neoconservative think tank, and author of Islamist Terrorism: The British Connections, said: “The Government agreed a settlement with the Guantánamo detainees because it feared a lengthy litigation process could reveal secret intelligence and damage national security. “Yet – as the Aamer case shows – the consequences of the Government choosing not to fight its corner and simply cutting a deal are hugely damaging. It should be a source of great embarrassment to the Government that Aamer will earn more for his time in Afghanistan than any British soldier ever did.”

Mr Simcox further stated: “The U.S. government has clearly had a multitude of good reasons to detain Shaker Aamer. His connections to al-Qaida, Osama bin Laden and other jihadists are well established, and the charities that Aamer said he worked for are known to be al-Qaida support groups. “Aamer’s formidable reputation among the other detainees at Guantanamo Bay shows that he remains highly influential. There is far more to Aamer than the benign image his supporters portray.”

So once again, we will release someone who will become a role model and a leader in the Islamic jihadist movement in the U.K. Furthermore, he’ll be rather viable financially — and you can bet he’ll also apply for more government benefits – I doubt he’ll be seeking out employment.

We are restocking the enemy’s leadership while the enemy is still fighting us. We are basically putting the sharks back in our swimming pool while we’re going for a swim — and their ravenous hunger has not subsided, only increased.

This is why we need leadership, in America and across the world. We are losing the war of wills against these Islamists. We are allowing ourselves to be led by a cabal of Islamapologists who see us as having committed wrong — even if it was 900 years ago, as Obama articulated in his insidious National Prayer Breakfast remarks.

So not only do we want to “free” Islamic terrorists, we also want to compensate them — for fear of lawsuits where our intelligence practices and processes may be compromised — why?

We are fighting against non-state, non-uniform belligerents who are not “prisoners of war,” they are unlawful enemy combatants. They possess no rights and we must stop treating this conflagration as some law enforcement endeavor. Who truly believes these Islamic terrorists deserve a “day in court?” We don’t have any responsibility to present a “legal case” with evidence against them. They were captured on the battlefield, which they established conducting terrorists activities. And as long as Islamic terrorists continue to wage “jihad,” then we should keep them off the battlefield.

And please, don’t tell me I’m a warmonger and we cannot exist in a state of perpetual war. Guess what? Islamists see a clear delineation of Dar-al-Islam (them) and Dar-al-Harb (everyone else – which by the way translates to “house of war” — so get over it and accept the reality of the Islamo-fascist, jihadist enemy.

No, I don’t support “nation-building” but as long as the Islamic terrorists want to fight us, then I do support crushing them.

I just want to echo the words of junior Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark) last week from a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on GITMO:

“In my opinion, the only problem with Guantanamo Bay is there are too many empty beds and cells there right now. We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe. As far as I’m concerned, every last one of them can rot in hell. But as long as they don’t do that, they can rot in Guantanamo Bay.”

Spot on Senator Cotton, and I’m glad we supported you with the Guardian Fund because we need more veterans of the recent battlefield on the Capitol Hill battlefield.

I recommend Sen. Cotton speak with President Obama and Prime Minister Cameron and bring an air pump for the deflated balls they’re using to play this game against Islamic terrorism and jihadism. Maybe then they’d be able to define the enemy as such.

  1. Muslims have been gaining in numbers and territory by torturing and killing unbelievers since the 7th century until the Ottoman empire was broken up after WWI in 1924. They enslaved and raped captive women and children during their rein of terror. They tried to invade Europe many times but were pushed back by Christians and the Crusades. Unless we know history we are fooled into believing Terrorism is something new by Islam because of the “terrible things the United States is doing” or because ” Israel was made into a nation after WWII”. The truth is terrorist are following the teachings of the Quran just like they did during the Ottoman empire. Moderate Muslims are just the ones that don’t take Islam seriously. The radical Muslims are the ones who take it seriously because Islam is a radical belief. Islam seeks the establishment of Sharia law that calls for the submission and or death of unbelievers. Our constitution guarantees freedom of religion. Sharia law is, of its own nature, unconstitutional and can not be permitted in order to protect the very freedom of religion it seeks to destroy. The other problem with Islam is it isn’t just a religion, it is also a form of government that seeks to replace other forms of governments.

    • I think the same thing about so-called, “moderates”. They seem to be the people who just don’t take it seriously. The radicals are the real Islamists, the moderates are those trying to be Muslim in a modern society. But, I’m not an expert.

      • Emma, you sound like a nice person. You probably just need to basically ignore the Troglodytes and Neanderthals who comment. These two do this all the time, regardless the topic. Apparently they have evolved enough to use the internet and type now, but their brains have not evolved and caught up yet. Uncle Ruckus just goads things on, I think on purpose. And, Andy Martin thinks he is so clever ’cause he writes cuss words but spells them so the internet won’t kick his pea brain off. Neither of them has anything to contribute! Don’t let them suck you into their vortexes of total inane stupidity! They fooled me too ONCE! But, you can’t reason with imbeciles and morons. There are plenty of other good people to interact with. These are examples of the crap you have to wade through to get to the good ones.

      • Thank you.
I don’t understand people who misbehave that way.
Are they really that way, that mindset?
Makes me wonder where thier Mothers were.
Again, thank you. You are right &I will ignore.

    • You are an idiot so let me explain it to your very simple mind. That money can and WILL be used to KILL Americans, both on the ”battlefield” and thru continued acts of cowardly terror. You, and simple minds of like thinking, are part of the problem.

      • Are you stupid enough to think that terrorists do not get funding from those who are not terrorists themselves?

      • Brendan is a troll. I think that Rafeal x, Brendan and Uncle Ruckus are the same person. Waste of time and they haunt Allen West blogs. Tiresome.

      • Here’s a question for you…
Do you know what a troll is?
You seem to think anyone who provides facts that you don’t like, or offers a view different from yours, is a troll.
A troll comes into a discussion just to throw insults and offer nothing to the conversation.
I offered an opinion, as well as some facts that Mr West omitted.
        You offered insults.
        That makes you the troll

      • What was missing from this misleading article.
i pointed out that the Bush administration cleared him for release back in 2007… and that investigators found that he did not actually have any ties to terrorism.
I presented those facts… facts that were missing from this article.

      • In this instance trolling is likened to fishing. You people surf these blogs and just argue and insult. Everybody has a right to express their point of view. That being said, when some people have not encountered these tactics you “hook” them into endless argument and insults. I have encountered the three of you endlessly and it is tiresome. That is just a dead end street.

      • I don’t hook people into endless arguments and insults.
I respond to people’s responses to my comments.
        That’s called a discussion.
As to responding to insults when those happen.. well that’s life…. if you want to insult someone, don’t get all offended over the idea that someone might dare to respond to that too

      • Um, if you fund a terrorist, that makes you a terrorist. Just like being a getaway driver makes you a bank robber. Your role doesn’t matter, it’s that you had one.

      • By that reasoning, I guess you don’t think anyone should ever get money because terrorists get funding from anyone

      • [[ By that reasoning ]]

Hey [email protected], the reasoning is simple. The House of Saud has been funding terrorists for years. But they never get their hands dirty. And for God’s sake, put up a post that doesn’t sound like some retarded 3rd grader wrote it.

  2. Didn’t the Bush administration clear Shaker Aamer or wrongdoing back in 2007 and admit that they could not actually prove he had any connection to terrorism?
And is Mr West also omitting that his activism while in Guantanamo wasn’t about religious extremism, but about the way he was treated in captivity?

So Mr West, I agree with you that we should not let terrorists go.
but why are you intent on keeping prisoners, who were proven not to be terrorists, in captivity?

      • Really?
        Where did I backtrack?
Do you even know or do you just continue to make things up?
Do you even know how to read English.
i wrote that I thought exchanging five for one was a bad deal and then you asked me to justify it.
        Are you retarded?

And Andy, why do you keep writing gay sexual fantasies about me in all your comments.
I’m not interested and I’m straight
        Go troll someone else

      • From you———‘We have always done prisoner swaps’. What does that sound like? Justification…………retard.

      • Wow… you don’t know how to read.
You deliberately only quoted the first half or one sentence,
You deliberately ignored the second half of the sentence.

        My exact words were…
“We have always done prisoner swaps… though i think five for one was a very bad deal and I do not support it”

        Did you miss that?
        I wrote… “I DO NOT SUPPORT IT”

So how can you think that I supported it when I clearly stated that I didn’t.

That we have always done prisoner swaps is a matter of fact… but that doesn’t always mean they are good ideas/
        I made that really clear.
You are either too stupid to understand what “I DO NOT SUPPORT IT” means… or you are deliberately selectively quoting me out of context to create a false impression.

      • At the END of a war, yes. It is beyond fool hearty to do it in the middle of a war. You also should get some value for the trade. 5 HIGH LEVEL prisoners for 1 LOWLY deserter is hardly a trade worth bragging about!

    • You are correct sir. I served in Gitmo. This particular was free but we could not send him anywhere simply because no country would accept him. Except for China, but we are not allowed to do that anymore.
And he was never a prisoner but a detainee.
      – and a side note. that picture was taken years ago. It was not a special picture.

Whoever wrote this article is only trying to antagonize people. I do not believe it.

      • The people on this site, like many others, just want attention and like to portray themselves as experts on ANY topic they speak about.

      • Thankfully the 3 of you will not be needing the help of the “attention seekers” when the SHTF here! Nice to know in advance who can be counted on!

  3. The Brits are cowards. And we know that from listening to Piers Morgan.
They are DEAD as a nation. They have already been conquered.
Two ways to lose a war.
    1. Run out of supplies and people
    2. Run out of heart.
Britain is out of heart. (also brains)

    • I am an ex-brit and agree with you, but just like USA, the UK is run by weak minded fools who refuse to acknowledge the damage Islam is doing to the world. Personallly I blame King Richard of England back 1000 years. He never finished the job of eradicating all muslims.Obama, Cameron and all other western politicians are doing the same.

  4. Gee, when are we gonna start compensating the families of the war criminals from WWII that were either imprisoned or executed. Can’t wait for that to happen. — Stay Well, Safe & Free

  5. What I dont understand . . maybe you could clear it upfor me . These politicians send us to various places arround the world , me to Vietnam the rest to the middle east , then the people we fight are captured or released and then we pay them to keep quiet . The same happened to me < iget back from Nam , the Vietnamese are building their own shopping centers in LOng beach & east LA with signs saying no Americans allowed . I am in a grocery store buying food for my family then in front of me in the line is a Vietnamese Guy buying Groceries as well , but he is getting Steaks and expensive Fish , then he pulls out thse Food Stamps to pay for his groceries , they didn't have EBT cards then . So I follow the guy outside to his car and he is driving a pretty new mercedes , I ask him where did you get those food stamps , he mumers something and recognizing what he was saaying learned Vietnamese over there . He junps in his car & speeds off , total BS . I am so pissed off that here the Gov't that sent me to this place , I get spiit on when i get back and now the Gov't is giving these Vietnamese Food Stamps and money to build grocery shopping centers for the people who I thought was figting for their Freedom and I am paying taxes to feed these people and give them money to start a new life hereand I being a Former marine is being spit at by my own Government.
