Take that infidels: Iran planning Holocaust denial cartoon contest

This almost sounds like a bad sketch on Saturday Night Live, but sadly it’s not.

In response to the anger caused by Charlie Hebdo and its satirical cartoons about Islam, Iran’s House of Cartoon and the Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex plan to hold another international contest on the theme of Holocaust denial.

Apparently, their first contest in 2006 was such a roaring success, they’re doing it again, as reported by our friends at Liberty Unyielding via the Tehran Times.

“The 2nd International Holocaust Cartoons Contest has been organized in protest against French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo’s recent publication of the cartoons insulting Prophet Muhammad (S), the secretary of the contest, Masud Shojaei-Tabatabaii, said in a press conference.”

“Shojaei-Tabatabaii, who is also the director of Iran’s House of Cartoon, added that world cartoonists are asked to submit their works before the first day of April.”

To all you budding holocaust denier cartoonists, sharpen your pencils, because first prize is $12,000 and your winning witticism could be on display at he Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran and other locations across the city.

Here are the winners of the 2006 contest. They’re a riot.

first prize
2nd prize
