More leftist drivel: College prof makes students recite anti-American pledge

Once again, let me be very clear, I am a Constitutional Conservative and hold dear the Constitution’s precepts and the individual freedoms it protects — especially freedom of speech. Recently we reported the words of a Cornell University professor who sought to have white people commit “racial suicide.”

I support his freedom of speech, but I am also concerned about what is happening on our college campuses, as reflected in this sense of mobocracy overtaking America and indoctrination, not education. I have no issue with college professors and their respective philosophies but there must be a balanced in the presentation of ideas for debate.

So here’s the latest in the ongoing saga regarding the promulgation of the progressive socialist agenda on college campuses, where most conservative professors cower away in fear of retribution (just as in Hollywood). But I suppose that is all part of the redefinition of tolerance.

As reported Fox News, — by way of Campus Reform — “If you sign up for Denver college professor Charles Angeletti’s American Civilization class, be forewarned that you’re going to have to recite his invective-filled ‘New Pledge’ — and according to some of his students, also be ready to swallow a big helping of his politics. Angeletti, who teaches at Metropolitan State University of Denver, has students learn an anti-American spoof of the Pledge of Allegiance that denounces the U.S. as a Republican-controlled bastion of injustice, all while spewing his own far-left brand of politics, according to current and former students.”

What exactly is the purpose of making students learn and recite his version of the Pledge of Allegiance? After all, most places go apoplectic if you even recite the correct version.

Here is Professor Angeletti’s “New Pledge”

“I pledge allegiance to and wrap myself in the flag of the United States Against Anything Un-American. And to the Republicans for which it stands, two nations, under Jesus, rich against poor, with curtailed liberty and justice for all except blacks, homosexuals, women who want abortions, Communists, welfare queens, treehuggers, feminazis, illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants, and you, if you don’t watch your step.”

Now, if the good professor wants to stimulate debate in his class, I fully support that endeavor. But let’s start with understanding that America is a Constitutional Republic and what that means. It appears to me Dr. Angeletti has bought into the whole collectivization premise of progressive socialism. As a matter of fact, Angeletti is a self-proclaimed atheist and socialist — no worries — but his personal beliefs should not be the dominant thesis driving his course on — hmm — American Civilization.

If I could sit with the fella I’d help him understand our American civilization is built on a simple theory — the sovereignty and preeminence of the individual — their unalienable rights endowed by our Creator — of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

And here in America in 238 years, we’re not perfect but we have strived for perfection that enables a black fella like me born and raised in the inner city to achieve the heights of success — my personal pursuit of happiness. However, what this professor — and many progressive socialists find confusing — is that we are given the right to pursue happiness, not a guarantee.

It seems to me the “New Pledge” is just chock full of poll-tested sound bites based on class warfare, gender politics, special interests, the promotion of the welfare nanny-state, and the rejection of American sovereignty — none of which is part of the experience of American civilization. If Professor Angeletti believes in and embraces a philosophy of governance such as progressivism, statism, socialism, or communism that’s clearly his right — but those philosophies are in direct contrast to that of a Constitutional Republic.

And the professor’s accompanying principles of nationalizing production, creation and expansion of a welfare state, social utopianism and egalitarianism, and the secular state is the antithesis of what the American civilization truly is and seeks to be. One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all — based on limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual sovereignty, free market/free enterprise economics, and a strong national defense — and sugar coated with a traditional sprinkling of traditional values.

“We’re very racist, we’re very repressive, we’re very Christian oriented, we don’t tolerate other kinds of thinking in this country,” Angeletti told Campus Reform. “I could go on and on — and do, in my classes, for hours about things that we need to do to make this a better country.”

I would beg to differ with the professor who seems to believe that anyone disagreeing with his beliefs is “intolerant” — perhaps he should spend some time teaching in an Islamic Republic, like Iran? Repressive? The only thing that holds anyone back in America is his or her own self-determination. We believe in a safety net to catch you as you climb to great peaks of achievement, but the professor prefers a government-issued hammock.

But enough of my assessment, what do students think?

Fox reports, “On the academic review site, students appear to mostly like Angeletti and consider him an easy grader, although some said he punishes conservatives. “Charles is the best professor at MSU Denver,” wrote one student who took the class. But another student said your opinion can cost you if it doesn’t jibe with Angeletti’s. “If you are a liberal, you will like him,” a student wrote. “He encourages you to speak out and voice your opinion… Unless of course, you are a Republican.” Another student said class was unfocused. “All this teacher does is ask what is on your mind at the start of every class and that is how class is run everyday based on what students say,” the student wrote. “The only reason I got a B is because I hardly showed up to that class because it was so pointless. All he does is argue with everything you say and you are always wrong. Didn’t learn anything.”

Will the 24,000 student Metropolitan State University do anything? Nah, quite sure that Professor Angeletti has the vaunted status of tenure. And we wonder why our college graduates are completing — if they do — but not competing, just working at Starbucks, with massive debt. Are we just matriculating our young people through a broken education system? Will we ever get back to educating and developing critical thinkers?

And oh by the way, the most leftist person ever to be president heads our country where our kids are graduating — with no jobs. Professor Angeletti, I suppose you would disagree with the statemnt oft attributed to former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

And I’ll bet Dr. Angeletti lives in the inner city and embraces minorities, welfare recipients, illegals, and the gay community. I’m sure he doesn’t drive home to a gated, no-minority community in a Lexus after decrying those rich, elitist Republicans every day. I’m sure he donates more than 50% of his lofty PhD-adjusted salary to the poor, works in soup kitchens, donates his time to Planned Parenthood, and volunteers for weekly floggings by minority protesters who are angry about the latest media-fueled injustice report. I had a professor just like this in college. I used the class as a perfect… Read more »

Hi. Instead of attacking the foolish wasted humans, let’s do something now.If giving yourselves over to weak 2016 candidates, of course more of the same is on the way! Let’s not.

View AmericaIdea for the only GOP 2016 Dream Candidate. And decide to vote the best instead of ceding the side’s so-called principle to go follow whoever “has the best chance to win”.

Further, who cares what a professor at “Metropolitan State University of Denver” has to say about anything? Glad I went through the computer science pipeline. People are too busy making dollars hand over fist to descend into this maelstrom of liberal arts fantasy notions.

Always makes me laugh when academics that know nothing of life outside of books and the walls of learning institutions try to tell people how the world works. The only thing more pathetic than people like this professor are the people that actually believe that he makes sense and that he has some sort of credential or authority to speak on something he’s only read about.

LIEberals are our ISIS.

Had i been a student in this jack ass’ class i would be in jail right now…. Being a Veteran and having a love for my country this makes me physically sick… All these Liberals are so full of hate and misery… Never met a Lib yet that i liked

Does no one realize its more satirical than anti-american, its just making fun of some of americas faults and turning them into a spoof .

I have met some propagandized college students. Some blindly take teachers’ word as gospel. I have heard them repeat it as “gospel truth”.

Surly Curmudgen

Any one want to bet, even money,. that this is a required course. This is also further proof that the source of lib prog infection is college.

Paul Sheridan

Why bet when you can check? It’s not required, even for history majors. Looks like the kind of elective you take to check the box for humanities requirements.

The professor sounds like a clown… but what he said is just as unAmerican, ignorant and divisive as a politician saying that anyone who voted for the President is a threat to the gene pool or that House Democrats were members of the Communist Party

Zaphod Smith

Not were members… Are members.

He’s what they call and “educated idiot”!
