One of the great things about traveling the country is the opportunity to meet some potentially great future conservative leaders. Last Friday night, while speaking in Houston at Houston Baptist University for the Daughters of Liberty’s Points of Light Gala, I met such a young man, and his charming bride. His name is Morad Fiki and he’s running for Texas State Representative in District 137.
Morad has a very interesting background. His mother was born in Venezuela and his father is of Egyptian descent, born in England. He refers to himself as a “Texan by heart with a Venezuelan/Egyptian heritage.”
Morad proudly sees himself as the son of immigrants — legal mind you — and a product of the “American Dream.” This son of immigrants served in the U.S. Marine Corps with Marine Air Group (MAG)-13 for three years at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Arizona. After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, Morad returned home to Houston, Texas and enrolled in the University of Houston, pursuing and achieving a Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting with a dual minor in both Spanish and Finance — whoa!
However, Morad still wasn’t finished serving our country in uniform. After graduation from the University of Houston, Morad earned a commission as a U.S. Naval Officer through Officer Candidate School and was assigned to flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. This embodiment of American exceptionalism continues his uniformed service in the U.S. Navy Reserves, drilling at the Navy Operational Support Unit, Ellington Field, Texas.
Morad is a proud Houstonian, an enlisted veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, an Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and an active licensed Texas real estate professional. In speaking to him I clearly saw a true “Guardian of the Republic” and someone who could be a part of the conservative “farm team.”
He’s such a threat to the progressive socialists – yeah, there are some here even in the Houston area — that they’re up to their usual chicanery, stealing his campaign signs. That’s how Democrats respond to a man of honor, integrity and character.
So this is one young man to keep an eye on and learn more about. We need quality military and minority conservatives at the Federal level, but we also need them at the state and local levels of governance. Why? Because the oath Morad took and continues to serve under has meaning.
