I’m missing so much great college football! Nevertheless, I predict…

Today I’m flying back from Houston home after speaking Friday evening at the Daughters of Liberty Points of Light Gala at Houston Baptist University. And it’s killing me having to travel these past two Saturdays and miss so much great college football – even though I endured two very painful losses for my Tennessee Volunteers to Georgia and Florida. But what a bunch of upsets last week! That’s why we love college football so doggone much. Well, one thing is certainly apparent– the return of college football prominence in the Magnolia State of Mississippi.

Can you believe that we have Ole Miss and Mississippi State both at 5-0 and in the top five in the nation? Yet, they both have some very big tests coming this weekend. Consider the fact that there are four teams from the SEC West who are ranked in the top 10 in college football.

Well, in what will be a certain test and one of the marquee games of the weekend, number two Auburn travels to Starkville to take on the cowbells and number 3 Miss State — ESPN college game day will be there. My prediction? Well, gotta go with my best friend Mike Burt who lives in Mobile, Alabama and is a big Miss State Bulldog — this just may be the year for Dan Mullen. As well, we have number 3 Ole Miss Rebels heading down to Aggieland to take on Texas A&M — Aggies are steaming mad about their loss last week to Miss State — look for an upset alert and Reveille takes a bite out of the Rebels.

And not to be outdone, there is a pretty big game happening down in the brand new Baylor University stadium in Waco,Texas between number 5 Baylor and number 9 Texas,Christian who just upset Oklahoma last week in Ft. Worth. At home and with a high-powered offense, advantage to Art Briles and the Baylor Bears.

The infamous Red River Shootout happens this week in Dallas between Oklahoma and Texas — bad time for Texas to play the Sooners — Boomer Sooner wins this one. And my home state Georgia Bulldogs are heading out to Missouri to take on the Tigers — who beat the Dawgs between the hedges last year en route to the SEC East crown. Look for Georgia to exact revenge and pull out a victory.

As for my favorite teams, well, Kansas State coming off a 45-13 victory over Texas Tech has a bye week and Tennessee takes on UT-Chattanooga. We kinda need a break before hitting the rest of a tough SEC schedule. Regardless, looking forward to being back on ol’ Rocky Top for the return of Lane Kiffin to Neyland Stadium — in Bama crimson.

Who does your favorite team take on this week — I just am so thankful for college football to provide a respite from the troubling events of the day.
