Radio station staffer attacks career Army officer for not having a ‘real job’

Remember when Barack Hussein Obama called for civility in political discourse? Well, I don’t think DNC Chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, ever got that memo. In fact, I don’t think any progressive socialists got that memo. And any time they say they support our military? Just lip service.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, “A staffer at a local radio station in upstate New York lashed out at a Republican congressman earlier this month, expressing hope that his Democratic challenger would win in November and telling the career Army officer to get a “real job.”

“Someday (hopefully) he will be replaced by Sean Eldridge,” wrote an employee of WIOX Radio to the reelection campaign of Rep. Chris Gibson (R., N.Y.) in a Sept. 18 email to Gibson aide Rebecca Shaw.”

Eldridge is the “husband” of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes – can someone explain to me how a man can be the husband of a man? Is the other man the wife? But then again this is just another example of how progressive socialists destroy fundamental institutions and change gender roles and language. Eldridge is the Democratic candidate in New York’s 19th district, where he has lived for less than two years.

I know retired Army Colonel Chris Gibson very well, and we came into Congress together back in 2011. Chris has served some four tours of duty in Iraq and is an honorable man possessing integrity beyond reproach.

The Beacon reports that “Gibson’s campaign emailed local news organizations a press release regarding the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades union’s endorsement of the congressman. The WIOX employee used the press release to express his annoyance with Gibson’s career as a member of the military. “Cool,” a WIOX staffer wrote in response. “Someday maybe he will find a real job like the rest of us and not live off the taxpayers [sic] money as he has done his whole life.” “Someday (hopefully never) perhaps [Gibson’s] voting record will demonstrate that he really cares about the community and not play part [sic] politics,” the WIOX employee went on.”

Congressman (COL) Chris Gibson is a former Army Ranger Infantryman and paratrooper who holds a PhD and has been an instructor at West Point — quite a distinguished career if you ask me.

His opponent in the race, Sean Eldridge, as reported, earned his fortune by marrying Mark Zuckerberg’s randomly-assigned college roommate.

For this employee of WIOX to state that Gibson should find a real job and stop living off taxpayers is utterly disgraceful, but it simply illustrates the mindset of progressive socialists. How many others believe a career serving this country in uniform is just “living off the taxpayers?” I suppose that’s why Bowe Bergdahl is celebrated by the leftist progressives while Marine SGT Andrew Tahmooressi is viciously attacked by the Left on social media with a horrific smear campaign. The Left just cannot hide its disdain for our military and the comments of this employee are certainly just the tip of the iceberg.

Was an apology sent by WIOX to Rep. (COL) Gibson? Nah, of course not. WIOX host Kent Garrett said the staffer in question “should have sent [the email] on their personal account,” and that it “doesn’t reflect the position of the station.” Hm, I wonder if they hadn’t been caught out if that would have been the case?

Incredulous. .. radio staffer should be fired

So you’re invoking your freedom of speech to revoke the radio staffer’s? Interesting…

Diva-Ish

No… I am saying the staffer made inappropriate comments on a radio station’s email and was inappropriate in his/her actions. It is a fireable offense. Regardless of whose side you are on

elephanttotemgirl
Guest

Not at all. The radio person is free to think & say whatever. The particular prob. in this situation was using the radio station’s e/m acct., thereby signalling that was the station’s *official* position, which could lead to exposure on all kind of fronts, not least of which is station’s FCC licensing. Stating one’s opinion is fine; reporting one’s opinion as FACT is not. Reporting used to be (& still should be) held to a higher *objective* standard re: truth.

WSKG has verified the identity of the individual responsible for sending emails that contained personal attacks on Congressman Gibson. The employee has been terminated. This afternoon, WSKG had the opportunity to personally apologize to Congressman Gibson and thank his staff for supporting the investigation.

Really? I haven’t seen it on MSM and won’t believe it until I do. I’ll check with Congressman Gibson’s office and verify. Liberals don’t tell the truth. If they really did it, I applaud them but just posting it here doesn’t prove it. I’ve not seen the story at all but of course we wouldn’t, it’s a black mark for liberals.

There’s more than a few good ones. It’s the bad ones of any group that puts a stain on any group. I was raised in a military family, joined the military along with 2 of my brothers and honestly thought racism was something that went away in the 60s. The awakening came during a funeral detail around 93 in east Texas where the town was physically split. When asking for directions to the funeral home everyone went silent when my fellow sergeant walked in with me and the lieutenant. He was black. Everybody in the diner was white. And today in 2014 racism is still alive and well. It`s a very interesting experience you are sharing and I thank you for that. That kind humiliating experience you went through as a uniformed soldier and fully grown men. Most black kids experience it for the first time between the age of 6 and 10. Boys especially, gilrs maybe a little later if at all. For me it was 8. And I`m an immigrant I came here at 8. My third day in American school some kid called me the n word. Allen West stirs phony outrage.
Some staffer at a radio station mocked a congressman, but because this congressman was a retired Army officer, allen West played the veteran card and turned it into an attack on the military, saying the left hates military.

At worst, Allen West is being deliberately misleading and turning this into a liberals vs military issue
At best he’s being hyper sensitive and honestly thinks any criticism of anyone who ever served is an attack on the military.

During the 2012 presidential campaign, Obama & liberals, used the secretly recorded video of Romney saying that people who received public assistance like food stamps or welfare would most likely vote for Obama. The Obama campaign & the liberals then claimed that the large majority of the food stamp recipients were military, and painted Romney as the ‘rich” anti military & poor candidate. Many claim Romney lost military votes thanks to that video. Maybe, maybe not, since it is not a secret that many of the absentee ballots from our military who were overseas during that campaign, were disqualified as… Read more »

Nice sweeping generalization, based on the words of one jackass. I am a liberal myself, and I don’t think that. In fact, no one I know (all of my liberal friends), agree with the DJ.
Trying thinking before you speak. I could make sweeping generalizations that all coservatives are homophobic, misogynistic racists……….. But then you see thats wrong. I know conservatives who aren’t. Try broadening your thoughts, and instead of just the tried and true GOP “ITS ALL THE LIBERALS FAULT!”, try finding the REAL problems. Like the GOP in congress voting to cut all Veteran Benefits.

Painting with rather a broad brush stroke, aren’t we? Suggesting that this distasteful remark represents the Democratic party is like saying everything that Sarah Palin says represents the Republican party, I would suggest that the remark more importantly represents the divorce between the former citizen army and today’s everyday citizen. Facebook presents the the perfect forum for people to express any opinion without having a basis for the opinion. Why did all the gop vote no for veterans benefits in congress?

Andy Martin

Your ape POTUS screwed the vets three times after making them promises 6 years ago. His topping on the sundae being the vets the VA let die unnecessarily on Obama’s watch.

Mike Folks
Guest

Except the problem with the VA has been festering since ’83 (Reagan, a Republican), and Dubya started 2 wars creating a MASSIVE influx of wounded veterans into an already faltering system. So explain again, how the actions of 2 Republicans is Obamas fault?

Nannette McGowan
Guest

I was a nurse in the 1970s and the problem with the VA was going on then, too. Too many administrators and not enough doctors and nurses. They could easily get rid of two thirds of the administrators and still they would have more administrators than the average private sector hospital. The problem is that the administrators are union members and they can’t get rid of them, even if they are terrible at their jobs. Most are terrible at their jobs and that’s why they need 4 times the administrators of private sector hospitals.

Andy Martin
Guest

Wrong left-nut. The VA started to become overwhelmed thanks to JFK’s and LBJ’s illegal meat grinder Viet Nam. Or are you going to stupidly say there weren’t more casualties from Nam.

And suck on this punk. The wars were legal. They were voted on by both houses and both parties. And BTW, Is Obama’s bombing in Syria legal? You moronic clod.

Paul Sheridan
Guest
That’s actually a more interesting question than you realize. Official estimates for wounded in Vietnam are about 150,000 whereas the DoD has diagnosed over 260,000 veterans with TBI since 2001, the vast majority of those are due to Iraq and Afghanistan. So we’re treating people for injuries that nobody even knew existed in 1972 and the treatments for old fashioned injuries are much more sophisticated. Vietnam vets got their legs amputated and were given a wheelchair and pushed out the door. Iraq and Afghanistan vets get state of the art prostheses and years of rehab therapy. Obviously it’s awesome that… Read more »

PTSD was unheard of after Nam. Care to adjust your dodge?

Paul Sheridan

Everything you just wrote is complete nonsense.
First, I never even mentioned PTSD.
Secondly, tons of Vietnam vets had PTSD. It was just left untreated which is why so many of them ended up homeless or in an early grave.
Thirdly, there was no dodge, everything I wrote is factually correct. We are treating vets for injuries that weren’t even recognized during Vietnam (although man Vietnam vets must have had them) and the treatment protocols are much more complex for injuries that were treated at that time.

Andy Martin
Guest

You are making my point. Is PTSD counted today as a war injury that requires VA treatment? Sure, as it should be. But they weren’t counted after Nam. Had they been, what would the numbers look like?

Paul Sheridan
Guest
Okay I think I see the problem here. You think I’m arguing that Iraq and Afghanistan have produced more wounded veterans than Vietnam did. I don’t believe that to be true. What I’m saying is that today we treat people for injuries that weren’t treated in the Vietnam era and have much more complicated treatments for some injuries that were treated at that time. As a result the DoD and VA medical systems could very well be more overwhelmed now than they were after Vietnam. I’m not interested in blaming Bush or Obama or LBJ for the state of the… Read more »

Sadly, this viewpoint of our military is not isolated in Gibson’s district. In the same county as this radio station, a local Democratic Town Chairman named Richard Stinson stated in a recent letter to the editor in the Daily Star that ” remember this: he (Gibson) has never held a normal job like the rest of us. He hasn’t had to worry about being laid off or fired. His paycheck is guaranteed. From college on to today, he has been living on taxpayers’ dollars and he wants to continue this career.” http://www.thedailystar.com/opinion/article_dec1ef11-64ea-519f-a958-e133b89f6f03.html And this guy Stinson was selected as the… Read more »

While I don’t agree with the staffer, it’s his right to say that. But more power to you, COL Gibson. SUA SPONTE!

The stupid comments made by the radio station employee running down Chris Gibson’s life of service defending this country are very reminiscent of the ignorant comments that Ohio Democrat politician Howard Metzenbaum made about Colonel John Glenn during a Democrat primary campaign when Glenn first got into politics in 1974. Before he gained wide fame as an astronaut, Glenn had been a fighter pilot with the Marine Corps air arm, and had flown 59 combat missions against the Japanese during World War II and 90 missions against the Communists during the Korean War, returning to his base on several occasions… Read more »

Did a liberal REALLY just blast someone for “living off of the taxpayers”? The majority of the liberal base is composed of welfare leeches. Pot, meet kettle.

Red states take more in entitlements that blue states.

As it turns out, it is red states that are overwhelmingly the Welfare Queen States. Yes, that’s right. Red States — the ones governed by folks who think government is too big and spending needs to be cut — are a net drain on the economy, taking in more federal spending than they pay out in federal taxes. They talk a good game, but stick Blue States with the bill

what is your response to a city such as Detroit. I have never heard anything like this, complete nonsense.

I love to say that Military personnel don’t retire because they don’t make enough to live on, so they are forced to work again. So when I left the military after 26 years, I was tired, when I left my second job I was RETIRED!!. LOL

Detroit has all kinds of problems, but it’s just one city in a state. Michigan takes in 93-cents for every $1 dollar it contributes.

You need to get out more … this is old news.

It is clear that you are nothing more than a liberal troll. I used that as an example, you throw out general info, what about Texas and then California. Which is best for business? You people think that higher taxes is the answer. Job creation is the answer, the more people working, the more taxes paid in, very simple logic, But liberals believe that higher taxes will have more for social program. While social programs are important, they are not career opportunities. There’s a reason Conservatives are called conservatives and liberals are called liberals. Look at the true definitions. Also,… Read more »

In a discussion about Red States v. Blue States you whined about a city. I replied to bring us back to talking about states. You’re the one trolling and trying to pretend facts don’t matter.

They do have disdain for the military. Take the Uniformed Services Former Spouse Protection Act. It destroy the very fabric of what the service member has been promised. Now I know that this law was snuck into the Defense Authorization Act in 1982 by Patrick Schroader and signed into Law under Reagan, but nonetheless, it’s a true sign that politicians use supporting the military lingo as pure talking points, they do not mean it at all. They should over turn this law, it’s nothing more than making military men and women servitude to former spouses. Allen West, I respect you,… Read more »

Sorry your wife dumped you, but it just codified for the Service what was common law for the civilians.

Civilians get pensions while working and married, the ex- gets half. Now the service is on the same footing. Deal with it.

Mark

for your info and not that it matters, I dumped my wife. It is not try about civilians getting half. You are talking about Alimony, not treating their retirement as property. It is completely different, I paid her Alimony where she did get half, then there is this. I see that you have not read up on it, that’s ok, what I’m talking about is it is not fair treatment for the military SMs. They should fix this unconstitutional law.

No, as a lawyer, I’m talking about pensions. You’re confused. It’s okay. Q: Is it true that my wife will receive one-half of my pension benefits if we divorce? What if I have a government pension and don’t pay into social security? In most states, retirement benefits accumulated during a marriage are to be divided at the time of divorce. The non-participant spouse is entitled to one-half of the benefits that were earned during the marriage. But government pensions can be an exception to this general rule when the government pension participant doesn’t contribute to social security. A few states… Read more »

You may be a lawyer, but you are not well versed in the USFSPA. If you were, you would not have called it a pension. It is reduced pay for reduced services. It does not have any attributes of a pension, people may state that as it is easier then trying to explain. It is appropriated each year. You are referring to something like 401k. Military personnel does not pay into this and there is no value as a 401k where you can say that there is x amount in this pot so that it will be divided. Also, you… Read more »

Yes, I stated it to make it easier to understand, but it does have many similarities. Why do you think it is unconstitutional?

Mark

wow, you really do need to get out more. First off, to educate you, backdated laws are illegal. Also, laws are to be applied to each person equally. This law is controlled by the states courts. Each state has their own rules, some states don’t award any to ex spouses when some do more than 50%. For example, in North Carolina, they are very hard press to award an ex spouse, they do, but it has to be proven that the ex contributed to the success to the career of the service member, Puerto Rico will not award any, period.… Read more »

Also, there is not one similarity. NOT ONE. Again, it is not a pension. Military retirees are still subject to the UCMJ, (you can look that one up to find out what it means) they can be recalled to active duty, that is why it is classified as reduced pay for reduced service.

The problem progressives they cannot or won’t acknowledge the simple fact that a strong military maintains their freedom to say the really stupid sh&$ like this. Yet if their freedom was suddenly taken away they would be the first to cry out ” Where’s Our Military” !!! Now the unfortunate fact he’s not the only one people like him go all the way to the Whitehouse.

A peon at a radio station offends a retired career officer, and you somehow come to this conclusion: “Remember when Barack Hussein Obama called for civility in political discourse? Well, I don’t think DNC Chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, ever got that memo. In fact, I don’t think any progressive socialists got that memo. And any time they say they support our military? Just lip service.” In what bizarro world do you live where a non-connected media worker is somehow proof of what the President and the DNC think? West has never been good with logic, but this is so far attenuated,… Read more »

Liberals are like Ebola. The only cure for them is God and they refuse to take his medicine. They get sicker day by day and spread their disease among the unsuspecting infecting them with this deadly virus that eats away at the body and soul. Vote Republican. Vote for freedom and prosperity.

Conservatives and Republicans are more concerned with pleasing lobbyists, while Liberals and Democrats are more concerned with itemizing every single thing that could possibly be regulated. Time to do away with both parties and elect new officials.
