Nearly 10,000 aliens from terror-linked states apprehended at border in FY2013

The government’s Fiscal Year 2014 has ended, but there is a very interesting statistic from Fiscal Year 2013. As reported by CNS News, “Some 9,862 aliens apprehended by agencies falling under the Department of Homeland Security in fiscal year 2013 came from 15 countries that are either state sponsors of terrorism, considered terrorist safe havens or have otherwise been associated with terrorism in recent years.”

“The vast majority of these came from three countries in the Western Hemisphere – Cuba (2,809 apprehensions), Venezuela (2,712) and Colombia (1,987), according to newly-released DHS Office of Immigration Statistics data. Cuba is one of four U.S.-designated state sponsor of terrorism, while Venezuela and Colombia are deemed terrorist safe havens.”

Now of course I can hear it already, “what difference at this point does it make?” Well, it makes a huge difference, especially when you have folks like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid telling us that the border has never been more secure. Too many of the “open borders” lobby are trying to makes us complacent by attacking our compassion. What they fail to realize — or perhaps they do — is that first and foremost, a border left unsecured is a national security threat, especially in this threat environment.

And as this former border patrol agent says, this is just the tip of the iceberg. These are only the numbers of folks apprehended. We don’t get them all. He says the surge of illegals across our border has the hallmarks of “asymmetrical warfare.” When you consider the mystery illness spreading across the nation, it doesn’t sound so far-fetched.

Many people focus their attention on the subject of terrorism into the Middle East. However, the latest State Department annual report on terrorism cites “credible reports that Venezuela maintained an environment that allowed for fundraising activities that benefited known terrorist groups. Individuals linked to Hezbollah as well as [left-wing Colombian terrorist groups] FARC and ELN members were present in Venezuela.”

The other countries making up the 2013 numbers are somewhat surprising. Nigeria accounts for the next biggest nationality of apprehended aliens among countries where terrorism poses a serious problem, with 492 apprehensions, followed by Pakistan with 334. As CNS says, “Nigeria is home to the notorious Boko Haram terrorist group, while a myriad of Islamist terrorist groups are located in Pakistan, especially in the tribal areas, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (formerly the North-West Frontier Province) and Balochistan. Among them are groups that have declared the United States to be their enemy, including al-Qaida, the Taliban, the Haqqani network, Laskhar e-Toiba and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.”

“Next among terror-linked countries are Saudi Arabia (264), followed by Iran (257), Lebanon (230), Somalia (214), Iraq (169), Sudan (168), Syria (72), Afghanistan (70), Yemen (68) and Libya (16).” These individuals fall under the Border Patrol category of OTMs (Other than Mexicans). I just have to ask, shouldn’t we be holding a hearing on this immediately on behalf of Americans to get resolution on where these individuals are? Furthermore, we should know what corrections have been made to preclude these numbers from increasing – I certainly pray that the Fiscal Year 2014 numbers won’t be higher.

Just as a reminder, Lebanon is home of Hezbollah. Somalia is home to Al Shabab. Yemen is home to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Ansar al-Sharia is in Libya. And President Obama is giving speeches blaming Fox News on his failures. Where are these 9,862 individuals? The Office of Immigration Statistics’ annual report shows that the DHS apprehended approximately 662,000 aliens in Fiscal Year 2013, 64 percent of them Mexican citizens — what about the 36 percent?

Well their theory is for every one caught three get away maybe they should stop cutting the Border Patrol’s pay and help securing the border.

His plan is working out as good as he could have ever imagined. Where is Congress?? Why is our Congress so incompetent? What do they know??

Congress? They’re in on it to. And why not, who are they accountable to? Certainly not WeThe People. Remember, it was Boehner the Speaker of the House that offered an endorsement for a proposal to grant citizenship to children who were brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents. And that doesn’t include all of the illegals that are crossing our borders from South America, the Middel East, China etc. He specifically said “This is about basic fairness,These children were brought here of no accord of their own, and frankly they’re in a very difficult position,” he said. “And I… Read more »

Awww, somebody doesn’t like living in a Constitutional Republic. Your side lost the election. The republicans won the house, your radical side lost. You’re not upset about “we the people;” rather, you’re upset about “me the people” not getting his way.

Tough.

Constitutional Republic? What planet to you inhabit? Certainly not the one you’re on now. Oh, pardon me. You must be referring to the Republic-rats who have finally gotten to the bottom of Fast & Furious right? No? OK. How about the Benghazi Affair where a number of American citizens were murdered? No? OK. How about the big IRS scandal? That’s what you’re referring to right? Hmmm, no? Is it because these same Republic-rats who are blaming Lois Lerner and the IRS and the Demon-rats are themselves the ones responsible to make the laws regarding income tax and the enforcement for… Read more »

You’re unhinged. Take a deep breath and try writing something cogent.

You finally figured me out 100%. One must be “unhinged” to consider that the country we live in today is still a Republic. I have two books I recommend for you to read (not to worry, neither uses big words) The first is The Bible VS. The US Constitution by Ted Weiland.

The second is Conspiracy in Philadelphia by Dr. Gary North. Both explain what a Republic is, what it was meant to be, why we are not, nor have we ever been a true Republic since the Constitution was written.

A republic is any form of government not a monarchy.

“a (1) : a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president (2) : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government”

Sir. You label yourself as :TruConservative” which is good. However, a Democracy, a Monarchy or a Republic are quite different as a Monarchy or dictatorship means “rule by one”, which does not exist in the practical sense, but rather it is always a group that puts one of it’s members up front. As an example one of the many of Obama’s “Executive Orders” to the determent of America would be considered a dictator’s declaration. A Democracy on the other hand is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government and will continue to exist… Read more »

A football team is a team that plays football, typically with 11 players.

A football team is a family, a unit, a battle hardened fraternity ….

See my point?

There is the definition of a Republic and then there are flower speeches and essays pontificating on the glory a republic can bestow.

We are a Constitutional republic. More narrowly, we are a representative democracy.

And I used to think the same thing. I mean after all, that’s what I had been taught for all those years I spent in school. But when I started to turn the page to the lessons in our own Nation’s history I began to realize that this just wasn’t so. Because, “…Constitutionalists insist the United States government is a republic, not a democracy, but they never stop to consider that the two are virtually the same regarding sovereignty. “Christian Constitutionalists further insist republics are Biblical. However, because republics (like democracies) rely upon the majority vote of the people for… Read more »

I understand and appreciate your point about theocracies being at odds with a democracy, but the word choice is still wrong. All democracies are republics, not all republics are democracies. This effort by the authors you favor, as they try to formulate a definition at odds with the dictionary definition, with a problem faced by many readers of the works of our founding fathers. When reading the Founding Fathers, one also has to remember that for some FF the word democracy and republic were interchangable, for others, like Madison, they were not. Madison held the minority view that the word… Read more »

One can not intelligently ague that 10,000 apprehensions signify an open border.

If the border were open, there would be zero apprehensions. That apprehensions are at an all-time high, then Reid’s claim the border is more secure than ever seems more credible, not less.
