I know writer and author Caroline Glick very well. She is one of the most astute commentators on Middle East relations, especially regarding Israel and its relations within a very bad neighborhood. She is a courageous and highly intellectual speaker who is relentless in her pursuit and presentation of the truth. I was honored to have her ask me to provide an endorsement of her book released in the Spring, The Israeli Solution, which I highly recommend. She is a modern day Golda Meir.
Ms. Glick has penned an outstanding piece for the Jerusalem Post as well. You can find it on her website, entitled “The Unfinished War.” She articulates exactly what we have addressed here on these pages. How can you have a cease fire with a terrorist group whose existence is based upon your destruction? However, in her piece, Caroline brings out some very disturbing revelations.
She writes: “The war with Hamas is not over. What we are experiencing today is a temporary cease-fire. The most basic reason the war is not over is because Hamas has no existence outside its war against the Jewish state. Hamas exists to obliterate Israel. The goal of each round of fighting is to soften Israel up for the next round. Hamas will only stop fighting when it is defeated. And Israel did not defeat Hamas. Not only did Israel not defeat Hamas, according to Haaretz, senior IDF commanders are now lobbying the government to enable Hamas to credibly claim victory. According to Amos Harel, senior IDF commanders want Israel to bow to Hamas’s demands for open borders with Israel and for the steady transfer of funds to Hamas’s treasury. Harel quoted a senior IDF source who said that if Israel doesn’t give in to Hamas’s demands for open borders, Hamas will renew its attacks at the end of September.”
So not only does it seem that the world has forced Israel to back off, but somehow behind the scenes Israel is being forced to put the noose around its own neck. The question is, who is it that will kick the chair from under the Jewish State?
As Ms.Glick writes, “during Operation Protective Edge, Hamas absorbed massive blows to its war machine. The IDF destroyed Hamas’s offensive tunnels that penetrated into Israel. It destroyed thousands of Hamas’s rockets, missiles, and launchers. It killed hundreds of Hamas fighters, including some top commanders. Yet less than a week into the cease-fire, the IDF prefers to capitulate to Hamas’ demands. This capitulation allows Hamas to recoup its losses rather than to face Israel with depleted forces in four weeks. In other words, despite the blows it suffered, it is Hamas that has deterred the IDF.”
Now, not only does Israel have an undeterred Hamas to the south, it has another terrorist belligerent to the north in Hezbollah who sits back and awaits its time to strike. Additionally, Israel now feels the pressure emanating from Syria by al-Qaida affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra. What part in this has the United States, namely the Obama administration, played?
Obama and his henchman, John Kerry, have encouraged the Islamo-fascist jihadists, lending aid and support by negotiating cease fire agreements through Qatar and Turkey. As well, the Obama administration has eased up on sanctions against Iran, Hamas’ number one supplier.
Obama has turned his back on Egypt as it fights against the Muslim Brotherhood, knowing full well that Hamas is the Palestinian wing of the Muslim Brotherhood — ya know, those guys he explicitly asked to be seated front and center when he gave his 2009 Cairo speech.
As Ms. Glick states, “by attacking Israel, the genocidal jihadist group won the support of the West. At the UN today the US and the EU are crafting a resolution that will allow it to attack Israel from behind Western human shields. So, between the IDF General Staff and the West, Hamas now knows that all they have to do to survive, thrive, and expand their war on Israel, is shake the tree. Something will fall out that will reward their aggression.”
It also seems the reward will be open border access. Where was the UN condemnation of Hamas? We reported here of the absurd statement of a UN member denigrating Israel for not sharing the Iron Dome technology with Hamas. This is simply Pavlovian and it is a game that Hamas is playing well.
The first and only demand in the cease fire should be this: Demilitarization of Hamas and its disbanding. It is a terrorist organization plain and simple. So why are we all dancing around the sentiments of a terrorist organization? There is only one response to their belligerent actions — you kill them. You inflict a level of pain that they will never forget and remind them that if ever they think of resurrecting such terrorist activities, the pain will return 100 times fold. We must find leaders in the West who are willing to tell the cultural jihadist apologists to “pound sand” and pursue these modern day barbarians to the ends of the earth and crush them wherever they present themselves.
One of the first places the United States needs to take a stand is with the United Nations. A body politic that finds itself condemning the US and Israel 99 percent of the time, but says nothing about Islamic terrorists or even Russia.
Caroline Glick’s article is spot on and I advise you all to read it in its entirety. Nothing has changed. Hamas is still around and once again, will rearm, refit, reposition and prepare for the next round. Once they have succeeded in wearing Israel down, the aligned forces of Islamic jihadism will attack and seek their ultimate goal, the destruction of Israel. The clock is ticking because they have a little over two years left to achieve that dream. They know there is an Islamist sympathizer in the American White House, a person from Chicago who follows the mantra of fellow Chicagoan, Saul Alinsky, whose book Rules for Radicals was dedicated to none other than Lucifer.
This all sucks.
