Incredibly touching: the saluting boy at Omaha Beach [VIDEO]

“And a child shall lead them” — those are the words that came to mind as I watched this video of a young man honoring the memories of those who perished on D-Day. It is well worth seven minutes of your time.

The simple act of devotion from this 11-year-old American boy is more than commensurate to honor the last full measure of devotion of young American boys some 70 years prior.

Every now and then, when there are times of despair, despondency, and desperation we just need a little reminder of the greatness and goodness of America.

Bravo young man, Steadfast and Loyal!

How sad that after watching this very moving video of American Pride that I was flooded with pictures of big breasted women and other filth.

I was thinking the same thing. That was too bad.

Well, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who was disgusted at that! I OFTEN have that experience after watching a video or reading an article on many of these posts! I am so sick of it!

What a difference between this and the gum popping president who was bored to tears to be there. Good job, young man.

SOME KENYANS FROM AFRICA, WOULD BE BORED WITH THE 70TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY, BUT, A KENYAN THAT WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE WHITE HOUSE TO RUN HIS MUSLIM AGENDA TO HELP HIS BROTHERHOOD BACK IN KENYA, COULD ATLEAST ACT PROPERLY DURING THIS 1 SINGLE DAY THAT WAS SO IMPORTANT. NOT SURPISED ABOUT CHEWING HIS GUM LIKE A COW, JUST SURPRISED HE DID NOT BLOW ENORMOUS BUBBLES WITH HIS GUM. NO JOKE.

This young man has learned more in his eleven years than most of our reported college students! God bless him and I pray we will hear more from him. Thank you Col. West for sharing this, hope to see more of this!

Im sure most vets and current members can forgive his stance. I know it didn’t bother me, and I understood the reasons he was standing wide. With that, America was great then, and we will be again. I’m sue he will lead the way one day.

Ray Watters

I didn’t even note the stance until the end when his father made note of it in an apology. I doubt anyone cared. This young man is destined for greatness! God Bless him!

That was the most inspiring video I’ve ever seen. With young men like this to pave the way to our future, I feel encouraged, despite our current problems, for the prospect of the future.

Thanks for sharing, Lt. Colonel West.

This child understands the American ideal better than that man that sits in the White House ever will. Well done.

it is because that man is from Kenya, Africa ; HE IS NOT , AND LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, NOT AN AMERICAN . NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE.

I hope this fine young man grows up in a world of tolerance and peace.. I hope he will learn that there are all kinds of people in this world,, good and bad,, and have the good judgement and openness to listen to all, regardless, of race,, or religion, or lack there of.. or political affiliation, and then decide.. I hope he will learn “how to think” and not just “what to think”.. that may be some day war, and death are something to read about,, in our history books,, and not always going on, at any given time on… Read more »

I find only profound joy and gladness for this family and their young son and his personal project. Many of us “so-called” adults forget the fervor we had for things near and dear to our hearts when we were once young. I cried through most of the video, for the sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters lost. Some lost in death, but so many more lost to apathy, indifference and even to contempt for the nation of their birth. This family is doing it right, this young man has got it, and this veteran is so very… Read more »

WOW!!!!!! If this tribute by an incredible young man doesn’t put a lump in your throat, and a tear in your eye, I don’t know what to think. As I watched this, I immediately thought of my Father-In-Law who stormed that beach, and thankfully survived. I also thought of other relatives, who were in The Big Red One. May God Bless their souls, and THANKS for your sacrifice. This is one special little boy, and he has one proud Dad!!!

We must not forget that what this young man took to heart is what someone older has taught him. The tragedy is that too many from the intervening generations have risen like a tide to obliterate the marks in the sand. The quiet and noble courage of the few who survived are fading from family gatherings while the history of their awful sacrifices are fading from our textbooks.

I was so touched by this video that my heart melted into a puddle on the floor. I love this video and I love that little man. What an amazing, honorable video . As I watched this video, it made me think of how much I wish the Commander-in-Chief would have atleast 1 DROP of this young mans’ Patriotism, Knowledge,Respect, & Heartfelt Love For Our Precious Veterans, both present & past Veterans and All of Our Precious Active Military All Over The World. With all the liberal, America downing talk these days, the use of common core in our schools, and utter contempt for the military from our CIC, this young man restores my faith that the future of our great nation will be left in good hands.

What a remarkable young man and kudos to his family for raising to honor our country with such dedication and love, yes love. It was the love of our country and the firm belief in a world free of tyranny that led those men on that fateful day in June of ’44 to storm those beaches. My God bless young man and God Bless America. Now to dry my tears and call my Greatest Generation hero and remind him how proud I am of him and just how much of love him.

A very powerful and beautifully done presentation, especially for those who remember the Normandy invasion 70 years ago this past June 6th . I walked on those beaches in September of 98′.You simply cannot help tearing up. I Imagine those who fought there on how emotional it must be for them.

This is beautiful but NO ONE should have ever died in WW 2 because it should never have happened. Plenty of British, French and German soldiers died on that beacu too. WW 2 would have never have happened if it were not for WW 1 and the horrible damage and punishment done to Germany by the United States, France, and England. Why is it that the people who die in Wars are never the ones who start the Wars. The bankers and politicians are responsible in all countries for all these terrible and inhuman Wars that never should have happened.… Read more »

By the way, I’m amazed that the boy’s father had to insert an “apology” at the end of the video. No one should expect an 11-year-old boy to necessarily know the proper foot position. And, the obvious wind should be cause for some leeway. During my career in the Air Force (Security Police), I was selected for a color guard for a 3-star retirement. The wind was so strong that both I (holding the Air Force flag) and the fellow staff sergeant to my right (holding the American flag) had to spread our feet apart to keep from being knocked… Read more »

US Don’t Recruit Children Their role is not limited to fighting. Many girls and boys start out in support functions that also entail great risk and hardship. One of the common tasks assigned to children is to serve as porters, often carrying heavy loads, including ammunition or injured soldiers. Some children act as lookouts, messengers, cooks or other routine duties. Girls are particularly vulnerable. They are often forced to serve as sexual slaves. Moreover, the use of children for acts of terror, including as suicide bombers, has emerged as a phenomenon of modern warfare. Regardless of how children are recruited… Read more »

I wrote this poem after watching the video, based on the story it told, I was not going to leave my study until it was finished out of respect for the young boy. The Saluting Boy on Omaha Beach The 70th anniversary of The Longest Day, he had come to Normandy but not to pray He was not looking for personal glory when among the war graves he told the story His knowledge to share about three paratroopers buried there For four days he taught, knowledge to those who sought To learn more about their part in the war June… Read more »
