Pentagon admits Obama’s defense cuts put US in danger

Many of our citizens – and our elected officials — fail to understand that the most important responsibility of the federal government is to “provide for the common defense.” They’re the same ones who say we don’t need a strong military, and we spend more on defense than all other countries combined — so what?

But I’m not looking at national security through a social egalitarian lens – that we should all be alike. And I certainly don’t subscribe to the concept of “proportional response” when dealing with bad guys. However, I am not the Commander-in-Chief.

It just so happens that the current holder of the title does believe in those two premises, and through his actions is ensuring the U.S. may never be able to defend itself again.

The Daily Caller reports that “In 2013, the United States Institute for Peace, “a congressionally-created, independent, nonpartisan institution whose mission is to prevent, mitigate, and resolve violent conflicts around the world,” was asked to assist the National Defense Panel with reviewing the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR). The National Defense Panel is a congressional-mandated bipartisan commission that’s co-chairs were appointed by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. The panel found that president Barack Obama’s QDR, military force reductions, and trillion-dollar defense budget cuts are dangerous — and will leave the country in a position where it is unable to respond to threats to our nation’s security. This, the panel concluded in its report to the Pentagon, must be reversed as soon as possible.”

Now I don’t disagree that fat can be cut in the defense budget. Even before I was sworn in as a Congressman, I stated on “Meet the Press” that there were places to find cuts to the Department of Defense budget — and I proved it so in April 2011 with a piece of legislation that cut three DoD wasteful spending programs and passed 393-0 in the House. So I know it can be done and along with House Armed Services Committee Democrat, Rob Andrews (D-NJ), I supported an audit of the DoD.

But this is way beyond cutting the fat. We are down into the bone marrow of our national security. And as I’ve said before, when we are issuing “pink slips” to our men and women in combat, yet cannot fire a single person in the VA, we are upside down.

Military capability must be based not upon budgetary concerns, but rather the threat, and not just every election cycle, but at least out to 20 years. Furthermore, military capability must be driven by the combat warriors and the tools they need for success on the battlefield. It should not be dictated by congressional whims to support defense industries in members’ respective districts. Case in point: when Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel decides he’s going to cancel the best close air support platform in existence, the A-10 Warthog, it demonstrates he hasn’t a clue about what is needed for the ground combatant — especially in the conflagration against Islamic jihadists.

As the Daily Caller reports, “the panel report addresses the need for the administration to return to the flexible response doctrine — a policy where the military was tasked with being capable of fighting two wars at the same time. Given the current state of affairs and the threats posed to our nation, the panel felt that the two-war doctrine was still required to meet our nation’s national security challenges. “

Somehow President Obama and his minions believe if they just say we are ending wars, wars end. They don’t understand that quitting when the enemy hasn’t is essentially a surrender. And developing a strategy that fits your rose-colored reality only means one thing: you forget the enemy has a vote — and most often, they vote no.

Now before you fire up your “warmonger” salvoes, let me remind you the flexible response doctrine came from none other than President John F. Kennedy who decided the United States should adopt this doctrine so our nation would have the ability to hold adversaries at bay through strategic deterrence, fight two wars — plus a smaller conflict — all at the same time. Here was a Commander-in-Chief who had served during a war, the last conflict where America fought a total war aimed at the annihilation and surrender of the enemy: World War II.

But that brilliant military strategist, Barack Obama, decided in 2012 to change the two-and-a-half war policy of the flexible response doctrine, “in part due to the nation’s war fatigue, after having been at war for over a decade, and also in response to budgetary constraints exacerbated by a sluggish economy.”

And there you have it. Make the military the bill payer for domestic spending endeavors. Plus Obama campaigned as an anti-war kinda guy.

Writing for the Daily Caller, Joseph Miller (the pen name for a ranking Department of Defense official with a background in U.S. special operations and combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan), said “the problem was that all of a sudden Obama started talking about threatening to use military force in Iran and Syria, announcing a “strategic pivot” toward Asia to counter a rising China, and swearing to uphold our defense treaties with Israel, Taiwan, South Korea, NATO, etc, all while we were still at war in Afghanistan. How can you threaten to take military action that could start a war when you are already fighting one in Afghanistan if you have changed your military doctrine to only fight one war at a time?”

As I stated on Greta Von Susteren’s show last week, “talk is cheap.” And the enemy can see through bluster and “red lines” when they are seeing your actions — like cutting your military capability.

Remember when Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld stated, “You go to war with the army you have, not the army you want?” He was criticized for that remark, but it reflected the reality that he had to go to war with — an Army that had been hollowed out after the Gulf War by the Clinton administration. The enemy is paying attention and they see an opportunity. We must operate under the principle of “peace through strength” not base our national security and foreign policy strategy on being “Happy.”

Someone is going to inherit a hollowed-out military from Obama, just as Reagan did from Carter, and Bush from Clinton — and as always, the cycle of history will teach us another harsh lesson. God help us if we must contend with another liberal progressive socialist in the White House in 2016

Removing patriotic officers that will NOT fire on American citizens and replacing them with brown shirts, I am afraid.

    • Patriotic American citizens will have the Patriotic Soldiers, who abide by their Military Protocol, Defend/Protect this Nation from Foreign/Domestic Threats, till the day they die, at Their/OUR backs… barry wants to create a “Domestic Threat” and get his hired TSA, Military Deserting brown shirts to enforce his socialist agendas, then he better think twice, because there is nothing worse than having well trained, American Loving, peeved off Military/Veterans, along with Millions of peeved off Conceal Carry Americans willing to fight for Righteousness, Country and her Constitutional Freedoms….

  2. Mr. West, sir, I would like to see you a Trey Gowdy on the ticket for 2016 as President and Vice President. Make it happen, please!

  3. Obama’s defense strategy is to yank the teeth out of our military, leave them defenseless so our chickens can home to roost in the name upon terror attacks of the US and increased power for our enemies, in particular, China, Russia and Iran.

  4. DEM vs. REP vs. LIB vs. CON vs. Santa Clause are losing mindsets (and We the People lose every time).

Stories like these never tell their readers the causes of the dysfunction in DC. They only focus on the symptoms.

We need to focus less on the SYMPTOMS of Washington’s incompetence and focus more on the CAUSES of their incompetence.

Fix the foundation and the rest will right itself. The foundation of our gov’t has been broken since 1913. And this faulty foundation has resulted in laws for every conceivable thing and an enormous debt to boot.

Here are the cracks in our foundation:
    1) The Federal Gov’t is in charge
    2) The Federal Gov’t taxes individuals (therefore, companies)

    Here’s how #1 happened:
Originally the federal gov’t had 3 equally-important entities at the federal negotiating table. These were the ONLY three entities in the US that had an interest in EVERY law the federal gov’t would pass:
    – We the People (the House of Rep)
    – The States (the Senate)
    – The Executor of Laws (the Executive branch, POTUS through veto power)

Then in 1913 our leaders removed the states from the federal negotiating table by passing the 17th Amendment. Now negotiations look like:
    – We the People (the House)
    – We the People (the Senate)
    – The Executor of Laws (POTUS via veto)

The Senate is no longer accountable to their State Legislatures. This is the single action that led to America believing the federal gov’t is supposed to be in charge of everything in the US (against the Founder’s design of 3 equally-powerful entities checking-and-balancing each other). The federal gov’t now overruns the state gov’ts…and by proxy: YOU (collectively: We the People).

And don’t fool yourself into thinking that We the People, having 2 seats at the table, are more powerful than the Executive (POTUS). Our power is divided (into 2 Houses with over 500 members) while the POTUS is one person whose power is focused. When was the last time you felt the federal gov’t was listening to you? Right, that proves the point…if the President doesn’t want to do it, it doesn’t get done (who wags whom?).

And there’s a reason why our Founders “Bill-to-Law Process” started in the House. This way all law begins with We the People…then gets input from the States and the Executor of Laws. This design purposely put We the People in the driver’s seat…are we today? No, not when laws begin by Presidents & Senators advertising that We need to “do something”.

This setup allows bills to pass QUICKLY into law since one of the 3 interested parties has no say in them. The result is many more laws that aren’t well thought out (since an interested party has been excluded from negotiations). End each law that tramples on states, necessarily tramples on We the People who live in states.

    Now #2:
Originally the federal gov’t got its operating budget from the state gov’ts ONLY. The attempts to get money directly from We the People were ruled by the Judiciary to be unconstitutional. So, what would any red-blooded American who loved themselves more than the Constitution do? Instead of “protect & defend” they “changed & enriched” themselves.

In 1913 they passed the 16th Amendment that made direct taxation of US citizens the law of the land. And, in doing so, injected themselves into every taxation debate effecting every individual in the entire country. They also generated enormous wealth for the federal gov’t, so you might think we would never have problems paying for anything our gov’t needed. RIGGHHHHT! (as Bill Cosby used to say so well)

With this windfall our gov’t did what most people who aren’t used to money do: they overspend it. They’ve also enriched themselves over and over again…how many in Congress (both houses) report an income of ONLY their gov’t salary? How many in Congress (both houses) have a SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER net worth only AFTER being elected (they never made money hand-over-fist before being a “public servant”, but they sure do after!)?

The answers to these and many other questions can be found by Googling them…do your own research. This is how a gov’t windfall (individual taxation) became a personal windfall for elected officials (who changed our Constitution & enriched themselves at our expense).

Without these 2 amendments we would have 50 test cases (the states) to see what combination of freedoms vs. regulations works best. The state with the largest population would win, as many would flock to its borders for a true American Dream. Another aspect of this is that there would be 50 different cultures to choose from and you could choose which one fit best with your personal life principles…we would all have choices.

With these 2 amendments we are on our way to an America where all states are run by the federal gov’t and operate exactly the same. A new name may soon be in order for us: The United Socialist States of America. And that’s not an example from “Scare Tactics 101” either. With the federal gov’t more powerful than the rest of America’s governments DC will (and has) force the other governments (and We the People) to operate the way DC wants them to. This is a logical conclusion and progression when DC is more powerful because the States are absent from negotiations (not to mention DC’s ability to effect We the People through the tax code; DC has the ability and holds all the keys to control the behavior of every adult in America).

As it is, this structure has saddled Americans with ENORMOUS DEBT that we can’t possibly pay off for generations. Stop this insanity and restore states to the federal negotiating table because this is entirely gov’t’s fault and gov’t needs to repair our Constitution – and they WON’T do it on their own! We the People need to ensure they do it.

Fix the foundation and the rest will right itself.

    —–

Now, regardless of politics, we need to get together as a group of “We the People” and agree to a particular path that will fix our foundation. This is a call to action, not a plea for agreement. If you agree then act…find those in your area that are like-minded and determine among yourselves what it will take to influence your federal representatives to take these “foundation-fixing” actions. And if they don’t take them, or give you some cop-out answer have them fired if they’re up for election, or recalled if they’re not.

The cop-out I hear the most is “I support doing this via the 10th Amendment”. Well the Tenth states:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

…meaning if the Constitution gives the federal gov’t powers, the federal gov’t keeps those powers. So, since the 16th & 17th Amd. are in the Constitution they are UNTOUCHABLE via the 10th Amd. Politicians who tell you this cop-out are untrustworthy and should be recalled (if this were the solution it would have been done in the 100+ years since these amendments passed).

Therefore, the only option to get rid of the harmful effects of the 16th & 17th Amendments is repeal.

The States can do this through the Convention of States, or Congress can do this as leaders in their own right. Currently the Convention of States ISN’T focused on this foundational fix…but We the People can change that. Congress doesn’t want this fix either, but we can change that. It ALL starts with us…We the People. It’s time to ACT.

You are the key: copy and paste this message, share it as many times as you need to in order to get ALL elected officials to make these changes. ALL elected officials means: STATE Legislatures, your US Senators and House Representatives, etc. Talk to people about this, get your teenagers to understand it so they’re actually prepared to vote when they’re legal, this is OUR country and it’s WORTH talking about and FIXING.

      • i think the AMERICAN dream has become a nightmare for everyone .] if ISIS COMES’ TO UNITED STATES WILL BE FORTUNATE TO HAVE BREAD AND WATER LET ALONE A HOUSE AND CAR .

      • That’s a defeatist attitude that does nothing to fix our problems. If that’s what you believe, fine – but don’t stop there. Do what you can to educate people. Where I’ve chosen to start educating is our Founding Fathers foundation for the country versus how we are currently designed to operate (chaotically). I’ve found that people understand this and I encourage all to do the same.

  5. “Quitting when the enemy hasn’t is essentially a surrender.”

Are you saying that it’s not “over” when the Little Prince waves his royal scepter and says it is?

  6. Uh, yes you will continue losing (in the effects) without the Republican Dream Candidate of 2016. View AmericaIdea for the answer for the Republican side. Totally ignored by the GOP … sad. Quite. What does it take?

  7. How can BO cut our military when, by law, the responsibility rests with Congress? Is this another wave of BO’s pen or has Congress dropped the ball? Allen West, we need you to run for president in 2016. Really.

  8. This is conscious deliberate act by Obama. This is no accident. He is committed to the elimination of the free society and the Constitution. If the US citizens don’t wake up and take action, he will succeed and our future generations will live in a Socialist pehaps Sharia Society until that ends as all the previous ones has.

    • A Lutheran pastor, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, confronted Hitler’s actions by telling German citizens, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

Too many Americans have become complacent and just go with the flow only contributing to the dishonest and deceitful ways of our government.

      • I dont believe that. I believe we dont know HOW to organize and stand and get this stuff done. We need people who do know to take action and invite us along. So far we have basically seen nutjobs running shows. Where are the sane people with the know how?

      • Also, you are Military. I see how well Israel is equipped to defend itself against attack. How are WE equipped here for that?

      • I WAS military, 21 yrs. I’m a disabled combat vet. People rally under good leadership. It begins at the grass roots level, with citizens that have had enough. There have been lots of untrue info placed out there about such groups by our left lop-sided media.

Our nation is far more prepared to defend itself than tiny Israel. BUT, we have porous borders similar to Israel through which enemy personnel are entering. This is an area our Congress needs to end asap or we’ll see another 9/11 within a year or two (my guess, yet I predicted 9/11 accurately due to observable actions prior to the tragedy.)

  9. Back decades ago during The Cold War Era, when I was young we had 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th,7th, 8th, 9th, 10thMtn,24th, 25th, 82Abn, 101stAA, 1st Cav, 1st Arm, 2nd Arm, 3rd Arm Divisions, 11th ACR, 2ndACR, 3rd ACR, a numerous separate brigades and ArSOC Grps on active duty plus a dozen or so Nat. Guard Divs, with the reserve having dozens of support brigades and combat teams…Today thanks to the BRACs, we have a fraction of that. The units today are constantly deployed, troops are worn out as is the equipment…yet the politicians want further reductions to pay for social programs. We have very little force projection capability; God forbid we have another major event requiring the military.

    • 3/11th ACR!!!!!Workhorse on the Border!!!! Sadly, the 3rd of the 11th is gone, and the 1st and 2nd of the 11th are now training squadrons in California. Gutted is not the words I’d use.

  10. In the Choom gang leader’s eyes and his Liberal minions around him, Catholics, Christians in general, Taxed Enough Already people, retired Military, are the “Terrorists” and are the threat to America. Simple as that. These people are Liberals. By their own Liberal Scientist’s, a genetic condition. DRD4

  11. Perhaps all of our military leaders who are being “let go” will join the Israeli military and help defeat our enemy, Hamas.

  12. What these freeloaders don’t realize is that defense is a large part of our economy. It employs millions. And now we have hundreds of thousands more who are unemployed for the sake of diverting revenue.

  13. Something always puzzled me about that photograph of Obama and the troops. The OIC’s must have poled the local troops about who liked and voted for Obama and then gathered them all together to get that kind of response. Mostly I’ve seen is disdain and down right stone faces when he’s been giving speeches in front of troops. No enthusiasm at all. Just sayin. I don’t know if anybody’s noticed over the decades, but since Kennedy our Armed Forces have always been beaten down under Democrat controlled governments. Especially in the Clinton and Obama Regimes.

  14. FINALLY!!!!!! SOMEONE SPEAKS UP! WAKE UP AMERICA AND STOP DEFENDING AND MAKING UP EXCUSES FOR THIS EVIL MAN!!!!! OBAMA! HE NEEDS TO BE ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON FOR ALL OF HIS LIES AND ALL FOR WHAT HE IS DOING TO AMERICA! AMERICA NEEDS TO REPENT AND TURN TO GOD AND STOP WORSHIPPING IDOLS! THERE’S ONLY ONE GOD!! (not MANY gods), BUT ONE!!!! THAT’S WHY GOD IS PUNISHING AMERICA AND USING THIS EVIL MAN TO DO IT! REPENT, SAYS THE LORD OF HOST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE AND STOP SINNING AGAINST OUR HEAVENLY FATHER! YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPENT TO A PRIEST, (EARTHLY MAN) BUT TO GOD!!! TURN AWAY FROM SIN AND REPENT, SO THAT WE CAN RECIEVE GOD’S BLESSING OVER AMERICA! WANT MORE ANSWERS?!… BUY A HOLY BIBLE AND READ IT! THE LORD WILL GUIDE YOU FROM THERE, TURN TO THE CREATOR AND NOT FOLLOW MAN, BUT GOD! AND PRAY THROUGH HIS SON, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD! WHEN YOU DIE… HEAVEN OR HELL?…THERE’S NO WAY OUT OF THIS ONE…DECIDE WHO, YOU ARE GOING TO SERVE….GOD OR SATAN?
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! I PRAY FOR AMERICA TO REPENT, IN THE NAME OF YESHUA! JESUS!!
    AMEN
