Democrat senate candidate missed more than 75% of full VA committee hearings while in Congress

Considering the horrific treatment our veterans are currently getting, you’d think maybe our congressional representatives might make veterans’ issues a priority.

During my time in the U.S. House of Representatives I took it as a personal mission and responsibility to my constituents to have a solid voting and committee meeting attendance record. After all, that’s why I was there.

Unfortunately, that priority doesn’t seem to be shared by one Iowa Democrat Representative who wants to be a U.S. Senator.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, Rep. Bruce Braley (D., Iowa), the Democratic Senate candidate in Iowa, has missed more than three-fourths of full Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearings.

Now, in an attempt to make the case of relativity, the Free Beacon reports that The Cedar Rapids Gazette completed a fact check of the Iowa GOP’s claim:

“We found Braley attended four of 19 hearings of the full Veterans’ Affairs Committee, which has about 25 members. This means he missed 78 percent of those full committee meetings in 2011 and 2012. However, Braley missed only two of 17 hearings of the Veterans’ Affairs Economic Opportunities Subcommittee, of which he was one of eight members. This subcommittee deals with veterans’ education, employment, training and housing, as well as readjustment to civilian life. When you put both the full committee and the subcommittee hearings together, Braley attended about half of the gatherings in the two-year period.”

So even if you combine the full committee and subcommittee hearings Rep. Braley attended, he still has only a 50 percent committee attendance rate. So my question to the Cedar Rapids Gazette is– surely a conservative newspaper — if you score 50 percent on a test, what grade is that?

And you wonder why the VA has been able to get away with so much incompetence for so long? We’re sending representatives to Capitol Hill who are supposed to provide oversight, but they can’t even attend their assigned committee hearings.

I wonder how Rep. Braley would like it if our men and women in uniform only showed up 25 to 50 percent of the time to defend our liberties and freedoms? What arrogance and gall of Rep. Braley to believe he should be rewarded for his absence with election to the U.S. Senate.

And please, all you liberal progressive socialists, don’t give me the line about this not being a fair assessment. I watched the Florida liberal media and Democrat party do the same to Republican Senatorial candidate Connie Mack when his voting attendance record was made a campaign issue in 2012.

You can only imagine the TV ads if Braley were a Republican – but my point is this, regardless of who it is, it’s wrong! We send elected officials to Capitol Hill to represent us, not go and make fundraising calls. I hope you’ll take the time to check the voting and committee hearing records of your elected officials. It’s public information.

And as poetic justice would have it, Braley is running for Senate against a veteran, Joni Ernst.

What about when Richard Burr (R-NC) walked out on Veterans Groups, rather than listen to their testimony??? Burr is the Republican’s Ranking Member on Veterans’ Affairs. Mr. Burr, angry that only the American Legion has called for the resignation of the veterans affairs secretary, Eric Shinseki, accused the groups of being “more interested in defending the status quo within V.A., protecting their relationships within the agency, and securing their access to the secretary and his inner circle” than in helping members. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Paralyzed Veterans of America hit back hard…. The… Read more »

So an obama-boy ass kisser like you is going to lecture a retired Soldier, a veteran of OIF, how to talk about vets. There vets alive, and not in the cemetery where your ilk wanted them, because of LTC West did and there is single man or woman he commanded in iraq that will say anything bad about him because he did what he could to get them home to their families not via Dover AFB MAD.

It does not matter if they are Democrat, Independent or Republican. Taking care of “Our Veterans” is important and if they can’t do the job, then they should leave or be voted out.

Perhaps he’s been too busy kissing the beehind of Senator Peppermint Patty Murray and her “boss” Maria Cantwell, Democrats who disrespect our Veterans in order to stay loyal to the agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Both sides are equally guilty for the sad state of affairs concerning our Veterans. Unfortunately we have a huge amount of the population who are too interested in social media and doing things that feel good. They have no idea about truth, standards, morals, and consequences. There is part of the root of the problems. What are we going to do to educate the ‘all about me’ generation and the upcoming generation of ‘selfies’.

And he tries to tell us in Iowa that he cares more for veterans than his GOP opponent, State Senator Joni Ernst, who is command of an Iowa NG unit went north to baghdad in March 2003. An who is not commenting on these disclosures because she is doing her annual drill as a LTC with the Iowa NG.
