Benjamin Franklin would ask us today “what are you doing for God’s sake??”

On July 4, 1776, the greatest experiment in human liberty took shape.

My passion for our Republic stems from a love of being blessed to live in an exceptional country and bear the simple title of American.

I have seen many other countries and none beat the land of the “All night Denny’s and 7-11.

These days, some feel America is what’s wrong with the world. I see an America that embodies what can be right with the world. In 238 short years we have achieved something that many have only dreamed of — a land where we “hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.”

When those words were written, no, it was not the prevailing reality. But, it was the hope of the writer, Thomas Jefferson, and that of the 55 other men who affixed their name. If those words had never been written, we would never have believed it possible — and we would never have achieved that goal.

The Founding Fathers gave us a vision of what was possible in a land of opportunity. A place that simply said that it didn’t matter where you were born or from whence you came — here you could “be all that you could be.”

All that was asked was a respect of the rule of law — our eventual Constitution. And what was given, with our consent, was a government chosen to represent our best interests — not self or special interest.

And so here we are today. There is nothing wrong with America and the fundamentals for which she was established. What is wrong with America is the abandonment of those basic principles and a loss of respect and regard for the rule of law at the highest levels.

What is happening with America is a lack of understanding our foundational values and precepts.

What is happening in America is something that would cause those 56 men to shed a tear.

However, I believe they would sit us down — especially ol’ Benjamin Franklin — and with a tinge of sarcastic wisdom he would simply ask, “what are you doing for God’s sakes?” Franklin would remind us of his challenge on that hot September day in 1787 that we have a Republic — if we can keep it.

Here on this Independence Day in 2014, put down those hot dogs and hamburgers for just a moment to remember and honor the men, the 56, who pledged to give their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for your freedom and liberty today.

    I have to say I was very impressed with your stance against this Administration until I heard that you are selling this country out because you have political aspirations. I am specifically speaking of Mike Zullo and his reaching out to you about his investigation which you are not willing to acknowledge because you are pursuing a political career. Seriously? You know they have facts and documentation but you won’t help? So I ask you What Would Ben have to say to you about that situation? I feel that you are just another blowhard that is using the American’s outrage at this Administration to further your own agenda and be damned with the Country. You and all like you who use any means to get your own end. When you will not get involved in uncovering the biggest fraud perpetrated on this Country because of selfish reasons you are already compromised and complicit and have no business in the arena acting like you care. I am so discouraged and disappointed that you turned out like all the other hopefuls to have feet of clay. You will learn that life is making hard choices, not just the ones that make your life easy. So sad that you are not the man of integrity that you hold yourself up to be. Another one bites the dust. No longer a fan.

A strong, principled, well spoken, fearless, conservative Black man or woman terrifies democrats. Murphy caricatured West with gold teeth, punching elderly White women. In a current race, Corrine Brown’s conservative opponent has had her campaign signs defaced, her face painted White.
        Black conservatives scare democrats.

        I for one am not terrified,,and would welcome anybody,,,regardless of race, creed, color who
        would take a stand, in support of good policy for all, a decent, livable working wage for all,
        a decent education, not just for people who can afford it,,, but for the poor and disenfranchised
        be they black or white,,,(or green for that matter).
        Give me a candidate who will take our country into the future,, and one whose
        not stuck in the past or the present,,, one who’s not part of,,or is going to be part of the
        dysfunction the resides now in Washington. We have the worst, least functional Congress
        in history.. and both parties contribute to that.. give me someone who can rise above the partisan BS.
        Sorry to say,, I don’t see that happening……..
        Allen could be part of the solution,,,but he chooses to be part of the problem…….
        I think our founders would stand in awe today,,if they could see this America,,
        our great cities,,our great medical advances, the ribbons of highways that connect it all
        our technology, computers, smart phones, etc, etc..
        But they would be dismayed at the way our Constitution has been warped, and bent
        by both sides of the isle,,,the way the wall of Separation of Church and State is crumbling down
        around us…

      • A good possibility that none of us will be there because of those we pointed the finger at when we were all sounding the alarm. Because those trying to “move forward” without remembering lessons from the past are only moving this country to it’s death. It is hypocritical and typical of those who are greasing the wheels of this train commenting about “islamophobia” and then showing disdain for people who believe in living a moral life and following the constitution reduced to a “Gawd and Guns” philosophy.

  3. The republic is in extreme danger, more than any other time in history including the civil war. Is there time to save it peacefully, I don’t know but in the American way we always over do every thing, “if it takes a little, a lot will be even better”if it come down to war it will be bloody beyond comparison, whether it be in freedom or tyranny it will be far better or worse than anything the world has seen before!

        Time to re-apply this concept. Our current form of Government has lost sight of the fact that their powers are derived from the consent of the governed. It is time to alter or abolish our current form of government because it is an epic failure. We have less liberties now than at any other time.

  7. is what our government want to do safety or slavery? Our government took and oath to defend the constitution and this country. To not allow 0ur constitution to be attack from the outside or inside attacks, We have people in the USA who hate the very thing that makes this country the place they want to live in, yet now they fight to attack it and to change it WHY? Our founding fathers trusted US citizens who ran for office to take there job serious and to do what they pledged and swore to do. Our founding fathers couldn’t imagine that the USA would allow people to attack our government from the inside. The founding fathers made sure that if any one of the 3 offices of government failed in anyway, that the other 2 could protect itself until people could elect new officers to run the country. Our founding fathers did everything they could to give future generations the ability to run and protect this country and to stop the USA from falling to a tyrannical leader or to an attacking one. They knew of people would hide within the walls of our own country They knew of spy’s and such . I just not sure they could predict people
    so liberal they would want to throw away everything or the fact people would
    flock here looking for a new life then betrayed the very country that gave them

  11. The U.S Constitution is now something the majority of Americans pay lip service to and the rest of the world is not interested in……..I suppose it all sounded good at the time.
