Police state? Impeach Obama activist targeted by Wisconsin police chief

What type of country are we becoming when freedom of expression becomes a target of those legally granted with governmental power? Such is the question I ponder having just finished a visit with the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) in Ann Arbor Michigan, reviewing some of their current cases. I found this one particularly interesting.

You may be aware of the “Impeach Obama” overpass movement — quite certain they may be getting lots more “honks” these days.

It seems that one Chief of Police, Timothy Keleman of Campbell, Wisconsin not only doesn’t appreciate this exercise of the First Amendment, he’s making it personal.

Enter Mr. Greg Luce, a devout Catholic and member of the Tea Party. He opposes President Obama on several issues, including the president’s stance on abortion. Luce was targeted for retaliation after he spoke out against a city ordinance which prohibits citizens from displaying the American flag, banners and wearing t-shirts that call for the impeachment of President Obama on a pedestrian highway overpass managed by the town.

Silly me, I thought overpasses were part of the public square and since the taxpayer funds the overpass — I am assuming in this case, their freedom to assemble and express themselves in petitioning their government for redress of grievances was their right.

Perhaps in the “fundamentally transformed” America of Barack Hussein Obama I may be wrong? And I just have to ask, if there were individuals gathered on the overpass burning the American flag — even without an open burn permit — would there be any such hoopla? Oh yeah, for many that’s acceptable freedom of expression – not for me of course.

Well, apparently ol’ Chief Keleman didn’t appreciate Mr. Luce, an American citizen, standing up for his rights. Chief Keleman decided to use Gregory Luce’s personal information, including his home address, telephone number and e-mail address to create profiles and accounts on numerous pornographic and dating websites featuring homosexual men, insurance companies, and the “Obamacare” website healthcare.gov. The accounts created by Kelemen resulted in Luce receiving approximately 15 phone calls in a single day regarding the profiles made using his information.

Additionally, Chief Kelemen, under the username “Bill O’Reilly,” posted a number of inflammatory and harassing comments on the website of local newspaper, the La Crosse Tribune, including 7 comments on the article regarding the filing of the initial lawsuit. Within the comments, Chief Kelemen posted that Luce had “disrespected the wrong mo fo,” as well as posting false comments about Mr. Luce wetting himself and posting Luce’s home address.

Seems that the wrong mo fo, Chief Keleman, graduated from the Barney Fife school of law enforcement. After initially denying any involvement in the harassment of Luce, the Chief ultimately admitted the harassment as an attempt to “get back at” Luce after detectives told him they had traced the unwanted solicitations to his IP addresses at the police department and his home. Detectives have referred their investigation to the Monroe County District Attorney for criminal prosecution under Wisconsin law.

Chief Keleman appears to be well-versed in Saul Alinsky’s tactic of personal destruction of the opposition, something perfected by current liberal progressive socialists who have carefully studied his Rules for Radicals.

Persecution by government officials via coercion and intimidation has no place in our Constitutional Republic. Hat tip to TMLC for taking up this case, and I certainly hope Chief Timothy Kelemen is sent away for a nice taxpayer-funded incarceration for violating the public trust and for dishonoring his oath to serve and protect the people.

  1. What a disgrace and embarrassment to hard working law enforcement officers who daily risk their lives while investigating and making arrests in real crime scenarios. I worked for over 38 years in local and state law enforcement and I would like to see this piece of crap police chief, who was probably a political hack anyway, go to jail for a nice long time in, general population.

  2. Liberals think it is perfectly fine for them to abuse the laws and rights of citizens. That they will suffer no consequences.
I would love to hear this guys gets fired and incarcerated for a good long time. Identity theft is a big deal these days, I bet he didn’t think of it in his fit of rage

  3. Typical Marxist with power. Not much difference than what is going on at the IRS which by the way is the Obama scandal that should have landed him prison.

  4. Luce needs to personally sue the chief, the mayor, the city, etc. for their misdeeds! You say ‘Why the mayor and city?’ Maybe because they are ultimately responsible for the actions of their employees!!!

    • The funny thing is that those who are always rallying around the cause of “civil rights,” which the police chief obviously violated in numerous ways, will remain silent in this case.

    • A lawsuit involving the mayor and city would set an interesting precedent in that it would make them more careful not to tolerate redneck, fascist-type, ego-tripping policemen/chiefs, who abuse their power. It will make them more cautious in the future if they are held accountable. Often these are the primary purposes of lawsuits, the money being secondary. But money talks and it results in more appropriate actions in the future.

      • 42 U.S.C. § 1983,
commonly referred to as “section 1983” provides:

Every person who under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District
of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the
United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the
deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the
Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, Suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that inany action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer’s judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable. For the purposes of this section, any Act of Congress applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia shall be considered to be a statute of the District of Columbia.

  5. The number of laws this guy broke is unbelievable. The odds that he will only be charged with a handful and let off relatively easy is what’s terrifying.

If he gets the punishment he actually deserves, I’d be surprised.

  6. It’s been said by many smart people in a lot of different ways.
A person of modest talents can rise in a large organization by kissing ass, where an honest man only makes enemies.
Wisconsin has had a bad track record lately in regard to democratic principles, seems like every month shows a new outrage. Some disinfectant is in order up there.

  7. This chief keleman is just another example of power tripping police. I guess it isn’t enough that some think they are above the law they took an oath to abide by and protect. This puke thinks its his duty to stick his nose where it doesn’t belong. Well chief I hope you don’t believe in KARMA.

    • No, he’s not an example, he is the norm of law enforcement. Liberals like corrupt police so that they can pay them off so they can commit their own grievous acts.

  8. This is not in Michigan. Campbell Wisconsin is in ….well Wisconsin. Please change the headline to reflect this. As a retired LEO in Michigan hope this chief is summarily fired and thrown into his jail cell.

  9. “Police state? Impeach Obama activist targeted by Michigan police chief”
“Chief of Police, Timothy Keleman of Campbell, Wisconsin”
    Need I say more?

    • While you’re at it, thank those “loons” on the overpass for speaking out against those who would deny you the very freedoms that allow you to express your opinion of them in your chosen fashion.

    • Sounds like you’re the loon..
Not too smart either, taking your eyes off the road..
By the way, even if you got in an accident, the Supreme Court has determined that the driver is responsible for maintaining control of their vehicle.

    • How did you get a drivers license? You must be the full retard going 5 miles under the speed limit in the left lane, then wonder why people pass you and cut you off?

    • Gee Earl, such an adult way to express your disapproval. Plus you blame someone else for nearly causing you to have an accident. Tell ne , do you work for Barack Hussein Obama?

  10. I am in law enforcement and nothing makes me angrier than power hungry cops that give the rest of us a bad reputation! Many officers escalate a situation rather than try to reasonably access it. Sometimes with disasterous results. Hopefully this will end this Chief’s career. There is no place in law enforcement for bullies!

    • We at Overpasses have been accused of hating the police for posting this
and other articles related to the criminal debacle in Wisconsin..
Quite to the contrary, we have the greatest respect for law enforcement officers who understand their oath, and act accordingly….

    • So what are you doing to make sure that every cop in your own department
is just? And not on the take. Perhaps you should
sponsor legislation that any police officer caught committing a felony
of any type should automatically be arrested and go to trial, and be
executed? Soldiers have orders and are always in a large group in
battle, and can’t kill their buddies easily or innocents without someone
noticing. Cops on the other hand are either in single or 2 man patrols.

      • Kyle. YOu are a nut. You want police executed for committing felonies? Just because they are cops. Seek help before you hurt someone.

      • They should be executed for committing treason. They broke the law they swore to uphold, that is treason MORON!

      • My views wouldn’t be so RADICAL, if the police actually did their f***** job in San Antonio. We have more crime now, than ever before and 100,000 active gang members in Texas, I think their time would be better SPENT trying to investigate and catch these criminals than handing out speeding tickets, we already pay taxes to support them how about they catch some criminals.

  11. It boggles my mind that anyone in law enforcement would support Barack Hussein Obama. I don’t understand it at all.

      • We at Overpasses have been accused of hating the police for posting this and other articles related to the criminal debacle in Wisconsin..
Quite to the contrary, we have the greatest respect for law enforcement officers who understand their oath, and act accordingly.

    • What honest cops do you know? Their all crooks. I have more respect for a biker, gang, they don’t bother me if I don’t bother them, cops however pull you over and write you a ticket for speeding. Or not wearing your seat belt, what right is it of them to dictated my safety? Perhaps they should just take away all licenses? If it’s really about safety!

      • You have to be incredibly moronic to suggest that authorities cannot pull you over for speeding and seat belts. Let me briefly explain something:

The speed limit is not just for YOUR safety. It’s too make sure other people, such as yourself, do not cause harm to the other drivers on the road. Ever think what may happen if you drove a car 100mph down a suburban street that’s limited at 35? Congratulations, you just lost control trying to make a turn, or you couldn’t stop short when that child ran across the street after their toy.

Seat belts have been installed in cars for many, many years and usually for good reason. It’s too make sure that in the event that your dumb ass actually manages to ignore the speed limit you’re so favorably against and crash, that you don’t end up flying through your wind shield.

And yes, I do know honest cops. For every bad cop that has been heard, there’s at least five or six paragon officers. So please, keep your ignorance to yourself and abide by the speed limit. I personally don’t care if you hurt yourself but there’s no reason to cause pain to others because of your stupidity.

        Thank You.

      • I’m all for speed limits, but if someone chooses to not wear a seatbelt and gets killed, that’s on them…
Children being under the age of consent should be required to wear them, but adults should be able to decide whether or not to do so.

      • My point is the government should not be allowed to place a fine for you not wanting to wear your seat belt. It’s stupid, that’s like fining someone for putting a gun to their head. I agree kids should wear their seat belt, but that goes with common sense, and other factors, it’s not about public safety it’s all about tax revenue.

      • Yes, because apparently you think I lack common sense. And drive excessively down neighborhood streets. I was talking about on the high way where in some instances me and the people around myself are doing 80-90mph. Also it’s not raining, their is no fog, not that driving the 60mph would save you from a crash in 20feet less visibility fog. And if you drive 20mph you get rear ended by someone doing the speed limit. Also I’ve never rear ended anyone I talk and text on my cell phone as well. I’m also averaging and will be 30k miles a year. So I think I know what I”m talking about, and also when I’m doing 80 mph not passing anyone in a 65 or 80 and get pulled over in rush hour traffic by some punk pig, who thinks that is the greatest crime on the Fing planet, mean while I’m sure someone was getting mugged, raped, beat up aka assault and battery, or murdered. OR a combination of the mentioned. You seriously need to GROW the F UP. I also do regularly wear my seat belt, but slapping an unnecessary fine on someone is foolish for not wearing a safety device, hence if it’s really about safety maybe they should just ban all automobiles. P.S Where TF are the seatbels on busses? I rest my FCKING CASE!

      • It’s an “immature” action to force children to ride on school buses with that do not have seat belts, the only seat belt is for the driver.

      • Do you have any laws in your state that requires people in the back seat of a car to buckle up? Let’s say for a moment that you have a bus full of kindergarten kids being transported on a bus, agreed that if a bus was to overturn the kids would be held in place and possibly no harm. But if the bus driver is unconscious, how long do you give a 5 year old that is suspended to pass out or worse, unbuckle. Your statement is a double edged argument. Go talk to a bus driver, or maybe a state trooper. Collect your data and then make a rational statement. Besides, where is a bus ever mentioned in the article?

      • Wow, your a moron, you missed my entire point. P.S I’m pretty sure most 5 year olds if their smart enough to put on the seat belt they are smart enough to unbuckle it as well, I could buckle myself and unbuckle my seat belt when I was younger. Probably age 3 or 4 I learned the skill. You must have rode the short bus. And no bus driver or State trooper can refute common sense that a seat belt is safer on a bus than guess what having no seat belt. Yes in Texas all passengers must wear their seat belt.

      • Driving is NOT a right guaranteed by the constitution or the bill of rights. It is a privilege granted by the state wherein you agree to abide by laws enacted by the state and local governments to provide for the common good and shared use of the resources. Don’t want to abide by the rules and laws of the road…give up your license and stop driving. Problem solved.

      • Your right it is a privilege, which according to illegal aliens they now have the right to obtain a license or the fact that the driving test is given in 17 different languages. So go and tell that to everyone who is driving with out a license or insurance.

      • You also missed my entire point of what I was arguing, I said if it was all about safety. When in all actuality it is not, it’s about money. Maybe you need to wake up, before reality slaps you upside the head.

      • I actually know quite a few good police officers… Most of them are there to do their job…
It’s only a few bad apples that everyone remembers.

      • Seriously, how did this go from wondering how a police chief can go from enforcing the law to making up his own laws and defaming a man, to a pity party for Kyle not having a patrol car rolling past his house. Did I miss something? Maybe Kyle has guns and is a democrat.

      • HOW DO I SOUND LIKE A DEMOCRAT? Did I say it was a pitty party,
just retelling morons like you about my own personal experiences so that
you might realize all cops and LEO’s are just one big MOB full of
organized thugs with guns. I GUESS YOUR BLINDER THAN A BAT LOOK THE THE
BLM vs. Bundy RANCH STAND OFF, or the fact that the Department of
Agriculture ordered sub machine guns, Why the do they need
sub machine guns? I mean I knew growing food was hard work, but I didn’t
think they needed to threaten the crops with machine gun fire to grow
faster. Do you see my point now?

      • What I see is a bitter person. You have thrown out the word moron to anyone who is in opposition to your statements. Could it be that you were harassed as a boy by the police? I know a lot of cops, my father was an auxiliary with the Ohio Highway Patrol and told me about their duties. I have been stationed in San Francisco, lived in Oakland, San Diego and Honolulu. The San Diego police department trained many of our Master at Arms, Navy Cops. I speak from my experiences and I do not call people names if they disagree. Your arguments are very weak and isolated, why didn’t you bring up Ruby Ridge or the Davidian compound? Those were both disasters.

      • I have only seen or heard of 1 bad cop in our city. After a reprimand he changed his tune as well. You can’t condemn the entire group for the sake of a few bad apples. Kyle, maybe you live in a neighborhood that is considered as a safe one. Then again, maybe they know that you vote against every police levy that makes it to the voters and refuse to protect you like you refuse to support them. It is a two way street. Our neighborhood is patrolled quite a bit, but this city is very supportive of fire and police stations.

      • Guess you have a fetish for men in uniform and like it rough.. Projecting your secret desires through feigned hatred…
Otherwise, your blanket statements about the police make no sense.

      • WE ALL PAY TAXES YOU IGNORANT MORON! So in your words, if we don’t vote for their highway robbery in the form of outrageous salaries and benefits, then we shouldn’t have our neighborhoods patrolled by them? F*** YOU!

      • See, such a bitter name calling person. Yes we all pay taxes. But do you vote for or against the police levies, I think that was my statement, sir.

  12. We went to policing and prosecuting thoughts when we enacted the hate crime law. I think that puts the courts in the business of deciding what was going on in the defendant’s mind. Policing other thoughts was the logical next step

      • James, I agree with you. With your name being similar to Jim Nabors, I couldn’t resist the Gomer Pyle inflection in my reply. I live in Michigan and heard nothing about a Michigan police chief being involved in some kind of leftwing monkey business. As for Keleman, don’t just throw the book at him; throw the entire library and MAKE. IT. STICK! Stand strong, sir!

      • So far, so good… When Overpasses For America started in June 2013, nobody in Congress would even say there was a reason to impeach Obama..
Now it’s the talk of the nation, and over 3 dozen House members have said they WILL file the Articles if Reid is removed as Senate Majority Leader..
There’s a reason they waited to start the Select Committee into Benghazi..
        Timing was EVERYTHING…
It had to be close enough to the elections to get people to vote, but far enough away so they could get the investigation done so they could file impeachment once control of the Senate is secure…
People are impatient for impeachment, but if it’s not done correctly, it will fail..
THAT is the very last thing we want!

  13. If it were pro muslim obama, there would be NO PROB! Getting closer to Nazi-Germany every day! WITH the help of the media. If they would report the news instead of the CRAP they report, the country MAY survive. THEY are the ones to blame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I would enjoy winning this lawsuit and being set up for life at the expense of the county’s insurance provider.

  15. ASSUME NOTHING. However a lawsuit against his person for slander and defamation of character would be appropriate. Firing would be appropriate. Jail might not be appropriate, he should walk the streets as a wannabe radical and be a laughingstock.

  16. In reading this article I agree with the rest of the comments that this man should be held accountable for his actions. The one thing I found wrong concerning Mr.Luce is his choice of locations for the rally or freedom of speech. On top of a bridge with a large amount of traffic is not the responsible place to protest. As most of you know one can take their eyes off the road for a short period and cause a lot of senseless deaths. that is why cell phones and texting is not a good thing to do. Other than that Mr. Luce, I agree with you.

    • Concerned Citizen…….. It would probably be a good idea for you to see about getting rid of the highway signs that litter the overpasses and sides of the roads. You know, exit signs and speed limits, billboards, and those pesky signs that show where restaurants, gas stations, and hotels are. People have to take their eyes off the road to read those dangerous signs.

      • I seem to have offend quit a few on this post with my note. However, Being a nurse, I have seen to many people come in because of stupid distractions on the highway. And I don’t mean standard signage people look for out the corner of their eye. I am just concerned for peoples safety, that is all. And if you all think that is wrong, so be it.

      • I don’t think it’s wrong, I just think your concern is a little misguided. If you can’t read a sign that doesn’t require you to turn your head with two words on it without crashing, you have no business driving.

    • Well these protests have been going on for a while now. Can you provide us an example of one that caused an accident, let alone an injury or death? You sound like these leftards that will make up ANY excuse to keep Obama protestors out of the public eye. Cindy Sheehan was a public nusiance with her Bush protests and no one forced her away from the raods. You are a hypocrite and you don’t understand that public property means public property. It will start with you allowing the cops to say bridges are off limit. Next it will be high traffic flow corners, and on and on until swat teams are busting neighborhood children for running lemonade stands on the side of a public street. Oh wait… You probably believe “free speech zones” are perfectly legit too. Better get out your brown shirt and start ironing it.

    • Fortunately, the Supreme Court determined many years ago that the driver is responsible for maintaining control of their vehicle, and that protesters are not responsible for the inability of someone to drive.
The choice of venue is one of necessity thanks to the mainstream media..
They’re not the news anymore, and the only way to reach mass numbers of people is from an overpass..
Thank goodness for our Founding Fathers being wise enough to foresee lurking tyranny…

      • You can be funny, But as a nurse, I have seen to many people hurt because of stupid things done on the highways And though I agree with the sign, he is not worth one person life.

  17. When law enforcement violates the law in such a psychotic way, they need mental evaluation, a different career out of law enforcement and to lose the right to bear arms. No one this arrogant and vindictive should be allowed near any weapons. I do believe in 2nd amendment rights.

  18. perfect timing. i just read a report by i think the WSJ about military equipment left over from the war is ending up in local police stations. just the kind of change we need

    • With responsible police, this is not all bad. Most police stations are outgunned by the outlaws and gangs. Once again, most policemen are responsible to protect and serve, there are always loose cannons like the Police Chief Timothy Kelemen, who by all rights should be fired and never be allowed to be in law enforcement again.

  19. This can be done to any of us who are on ther internet. I just want to scream. There is so much evil going on in this country and it seems most citizens are oblivious.

  20. Barney Fife would not have done anything like what this messed up police chief has done. Barney may not have been the smartest guy in town but he was not dishonest!! We must do everything possible to put a stop to power hungry nutjobs like this police chief.

  21. Now the Obamantion wants to send the illegal border crosser children to Baltimore!

    Obama IS Insane!

And Obama IS a Clear and Present Danger to the Future of OUR America!

Remove the America Hating Bastage NOW!

Before it’s too late for OUR America!

    • Doing exactly what its designed to do, overwhelming our resource structure to 3rd world proportions! This is beyond left folks, we the people must vote this out of our abyss. Bring to the middle for starters! Ya know , like the constitution, we the people, Honesty, a budget?

  22. The Brown shirts of this nation like Keleman rail about fascism, without realizing they’re the fascists.

Using the instruments of gov’t against your opponents is true fascism, whether the target is small business competing against the likes of Solyndra or Brown shirts like Keleman harassing the citizens of the country are merely an extension of the IRS harassment of TEA party/Conservative groups.

BTW, this “chief” should be imprisoned for years.

  23. How dare you use freedom of speech…Don’t you know that Oblama is the almighty dictator! How dare you, you little piss ant racists.

  24. Chief Kelerman is definitely a “wrong mo fo” and needs to be placed with others of his ilk and segregated from honest society

  25. I have to wonder about the IQ of this cop who uses his work and home computers to commit illegal acts. Otherwise, this is an easy one. What is one of the loudest chants at muslim rallies? Down with free speech. This what you get with a muslim in the WH. And yes, libbies, I know that Bush did it too. Do you think that makes it right?

We have the RIGHT to assemble and protest in America, just don’t you DARE to try to do it or you will have the local, state, and federal cops up your butt.
