Obama suffers memory loss re: Veterans Administration

It is a travesty that on this Memorial Day there were American families suffering the loss of their loved ones who were veterans. Painful though it is, you can understand the loss of a loved one serving in a combat zone — unless the loss was due to the insidious combat rules of engagement.

But to have your veteran, one who has survived the rigors of combat, succumb to death due to the bureaucracy of the Veterans Administration — that is unconscionable. And don’t give me the Blame Bush Derangement Syndrome response. President Obama and Secretary Shinseki have had nearly six years to rectify the situation.

In the military, where General Shinseki grew up, when a commander takes over a new unit with problems he is expected to fix what is broken. If the new commander cannot, or does not, he or she is deemed a failure.

But not in the Obama administration. There is no retribution, no admission of shortcoming, no recollection of campaign promises made – only a lecture.

As John Kass writes in the Chicago Tribune, “After keeping his mouth shut on that growing Veterans Affairs scandal for weeks, President Barack Obama finally acted. Not with deeds. But with words. The scandal involves reports of secret admissions lists, falsified data and some 40 veterans dying while waiting for treatment. So Obama did what he does best. He talked.”

I remember how everyone was so enthralled with the junior Senator from Illinois, and when asked why, they said because he gives an inspiring speech.

But leadership isn’t not about speeches — with teleprompter – it’s about being able to lead, command, take charge of a situation, give guidance and intent, and instill confidence by making decisions, not talking.

A quick review of Obama’s voting record evidences his inability to take charge and make a decision: countless “present” votes. And please, don’t give me the “courage” of ending the war in Iraq started by — you guessed it — George Bush.

A leader would have made the decision based upon strategic vision, not acquiescence to a political base — abandoning Iraq looks brilliant now, right? We all remember the infamous “red line” in Syria. Talk always sounds tough, but taking action is the measure of a leader. And in the end, it was not Obama’s red line. It belonged to all of us.

Obama’s inability to lead has become more obvious, as Kass wrote, “He didn’t fire Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. Firing Shinseki would suggest he was actually taking responsibility, rather than just talking about taking responsibility. So instead Obama did his thing with words. He’s a talker, this President Windsock from Chicago, first leaning this way, then that, considering everything, lecturing, talking, talking, talking.”

The Media have so vehemently become lap dogs instead of watch dogs over an administration they would savage if it was republican it’s amazing they don’t lose their FCC licenses. I wish Obama was a republican. Then I could count on the media to do their jobs and actually report the news instead of covering (up) the news. And it would be nice to have a President who knew things before I did and didn’t find out about them ‘on the news’ at the same time I do!!!

He must have been watching FOX – he wouldn’t have heard the news from the MSM!! o should become a premium member on O’Reilly – there’s always a test on your knowledge of what’s happening in the news ;o)

Lt Col West my father was a Veteran. He died last year. The hospital sent him home to die instead of helping him fight the cancer that at first would have been treatable. All he wanted was a chance to fight and they denied him that. They have stolen an amazing father from me. A superb grandfather from my children. All on Pres. Obama’s watch. He knew in 2008 there was a problem but instead of fixing it he ignored it. You are right it was his to fix now. The American people gave him that chance in good faith… Read more »

Being a disabled vet myself I appreciate the idea of a veteran running the country but there are plenty of people I would love to see run this country and they don’t all have a military background. The current potus is a talker and a politician first. He’s not a doer. Common sense is so far above him it disgusts me.

I have worked with veterans for years, and I believe the VA slide began after the death of Senator Bill Nichols, and we are probably not at the bottom of what turned out to be a slippery slope. It seemed to me that the VA had a “pick and choose” approach to medical treatment, but I never came across one who was one of those picked. Overall, I thought the VA was a sham. The veterans were like so many cattle going through the gate, but the veterans paid out-of-pocket expenses to even get to the gate, only to be… Read more »

I take personal issue with your statement that medical staff at the VA were rude and uncaring. No hospital or healthcare system is required to take care of so many people with so little resources (money). It is simple math. The “can-do” attitude can only do so much. I don’t care how smart you are, you cant take care of 100s of people with $20. Corners have to be cut. If you percieve having to wait for an appointment as “uncaring” that is your issue. Don’t project on those who get less pay than other civilian hospitals. Ask yourself who… Read more »

You really need to give this money thing a rest. You’re wrong. The VA doesn’t need money it needs leadership and responsible people managing it. It also needs a shake up in personnel and a lesson in customer service. I have witnessed and been on the receiving end of some of the rudest individuals in the healthcare industry and they were all at The Bob Dole VA Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. A Veteran’s questions were answered with, “Don’t ask me as your Congressman”…..Scheduling appointments? A joke. I spent the last three years taking my brother in law to his VA… Read more »

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t the withdrawal plan from Iraq already in place and in effect during Bush’s tenure? Obama didn’t do anything but jump on the bus that was already moving.

As Col. West knows. Back in 1963 when I was first in the Army we were taught on basic thing. Were taught to take charge of a unit if the officers and nco s were not there. It is called leadership and responsibility for others. That is how our military has defeated all comers. When I was sent to Okinawa to rewire a comm center I had to take over for a E-7 that was not doing his job, I was a E-5 I took command because I had to, the E-7 refused his reponsiblity. He was later transfer out… Read more »

President Obama seems to think we should accept what he says as a done deal. He seems a president of intentions rather than an actual man of action. I bet it’s getting annoying to him that there are more and more people who see through his rhetoric! When I voted during his first run for president, I stood hesitantly over the ballot. I would have liked to vote for our first half-black president. But I am from Illinois near Chicago and I had barely known who he was. I just did not think he had the right background to be… Read more »

We got stuck with a jerk we runs his job by Libetal opinion polls. He doesn’t give a damn about what is best for America, just what his money bundlers want. Obama knew of all the problems at the VA, we had just come off the Walter Reed problems. Obama the candidate promised to fix what was left over from the Bush Presidency and DID NOTHING. A good leader faces problems head on and attacks. Obama pretends like it doesn’t exist until the media can’t contain it anymore then claims he just learned about it from the TV. Usually his… Read more »

For all the wonderful voices of truth willing to talk about the true agenda of this corrupt administration…such as Lt. Col. West…what’s the point? I’ve watched my country turn into wimpy, ignorant, selfish people that worry more about their manicures and their Face Book pages than they do their country and their freedom. I’m not dismissing the urgency…I’m facing the ugly truth. Short of a revolution..or Christ returning..I see no end to this madness.

This is yet another distraction from Benghazi and the select committee.
barry holds no favor toward veterans or the armed forces. Time and time again we have seen him belittle and humiliate the armed forces and veterans. This should come as no surprise to anyone. It would not surprise me if barry himself told the head of the veterans admin. to put off hiring help and not give critical care to vets who need it.

Thats right….everything is about BENGHAZI!!

That’s correct it is about Benghazi, See the thing you will never understand is that barry was illegally transporting guns to Al Qaeda in Syria to destabilize the country and over throw assad so It could become and Islamic Country. That is aiding and abetting the enemy (which s a traitorous offence). It would also be enough to impeach him.
That is why EVERYTHING IS ABOUT BENGHAZI!
go back to playing your guitar it is the only thing you can get right

I’ve worked in the military healthcare system for years and had an interesting conversation with my father this weekend. A conversation that happened several hours before he was due to attend the funeral of a college buddy who died waiting for an appointment at the VA for an X-ray of his lungs filled with undiagnosed lung cancer. We have always been pressured to do more with less. And I remember in the military where Commanders always seem to report 100% operational when they knew there were problems. It is part of the “can do” attitude. “ Don’t tell me what… Read more »

My brother-in-law died from complications of a brain aneurism while waiting over two years for a treatment, while a man sex change operation was fast tracked. Special waiting lists kept secret. This isn’t all about funding.

I appreciate your calm approach to the discussion. However government revenue increased under Reagan when taxes were lowered. The answer is to cut spending and not overgraze the tax base. Any rancher knows to not overgraze

what I was saying is that if the patient population is increase 100 fold and you don’t increase the funding for the VA as much it is a cut per patient in funding. I don’t care how you do the math, raise taxes or adjust where you spend it, if you don’t give more money to the VA patient care will suffer. the cost of those fancy prostetic limbs given to those who lost their in Iraq to IEDs don’t come cheap. Plus all those VA disability checks, all those home loans that vets defaulted on cut into the funds… Read more »

The Democrats just voted to give away the Veterans benefits to Illegals for welfare.

Money was never the problem with the VA Hospitals, as was just reported on CNN

and by the way, the VA having longer wait times for appointments isn’t a new thing. I’ve been in the system since Clinton was in office. It was true then, it is still true today.

Obama doesn’t fire anyone … EVER

and I read recently someone’s POV as to WHY that is … I’m inclined to agree

Obama DARE NOT fire anyone because they know too much about WHAT HE HAS REALLY BEEN DOING behind the scenes in their jurisdiction, and they might start SPILLING THE BEANS and giving their EVIDENCE

(unless he has *something* on them which will keep them IN LINE, that is …)

I believe the CORRUPTION runs oh SO DEEP …

May Divine Providence DELIVER America from this WH SCOURGE

He does fire folks….The top Commanders of our Armed Forces. He does not fire the charlatans and witch doctors of his cadre of minions that worship his highness. He is a fraud of the lowest caliber and has sent our Nation back into the past by 50 years. Lost jobs, lost business that creates jobs, ignored the US Constitution, refused to obey the laws of our Government and aided and abetted the enemy. Bush probably caused him to be the fake he is…..
