According to Hagel, transgender troops are key to military success

I can think of a thousand policy issues on which Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel should focus. Heck, as a Vietnam veteran, you might think he’d care a bit about the current VA “death list” scandal.

So this is a short story because, frankly, I’m at a loss for words. According to the Business Insider via Reuters, “Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on Sunday the U.S. military should review its ban on allowing transgender people to serve openly in the armed forces, saying that “every qualified American” should have an opportunity to serve.”

We recently reported here of a US Navy F-18 fighter pilot who reported the Obama administration’s focus on social issues in the military is adversely affecting readiness. I guess no one in the Pentagon’s civilian leadership read the commander’s report.

President Barack Obama has made lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights a priority during his time in office, and in 2010 signed legislation ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that had prevented gay men and women from serving openly in the military. Hagel didn’t make clear whether he felt the ban on transgender troops should be reversed.

According to the report, “The issue of transgender is a bit more complicated because it has a medical component to it,” Hagel told ABC’s “This Week” program. “These issues require medical attention. Austere locations where we put our men and women in many cases don’t always provide that kind of opportunity.”

But in backing a review of the ban, Hagel said: “I’m open to those assessments because, again, I go back to the bottom line: every qualified American who wants to serve our country should have an opportunity if they fit the qualifications and can do it.”

But here’s the question: what is the priority for our military? Why should it be social egalitarianism? Shouldn’t it be national security where strong force is a deterrent? Are we unable to provide a strong deterrent unless transgender troops can serve? I mean, I know we’re an all-volunteer force, but is it transgender troops who make up the deficit when budgets are cut and forces are reduced?

The National Center for Transgender Equality, a Washington-based advocacy group, said Hagel’s willingness to review the policy was “overdue but very welcome,” as it called the ban “arbitrary and archaic.” “If the secretary were able to meet and talk with the trans service members I’ve met, he’d understand the answer is self-evident,” Mara Keisling, the group’s executive director, said in a statement. “These are amazing people who serve even though they must hide a basic part of who they are.”

Arbitrary and archaic? I’ll tell you what’s arbitrary. The fact that these special interest groups get more attention from the Obama administration than the thousands of veterans, active and reserve component servicemen and women, and military families.

We have a volunteer force, but if we now believe it is the mission of the military to conform to every single individual behavior — then why have a military, which is supposed to conform individual behavior to the organization? That’s what makes a first class, cohesive, fighting unit.

We’re turning our military into a social club.

And our enemies are delighted.

  1. Not a good idea to include people who are mentally confused about their gender, despite being either male or female, into the military. Hagel has got to be the absolute worst DefenseSecy in modern US history.

    • Probably not a good idea to recruit people who are mentally confused about ANYTHING into the military. After all, wasn’t Corporal Klinger from MASH trying to get OUT of the military on a Section 8 mental illness discharge and that’s why he wore dresses?

  2. Considering that our schools are struggling with the idea that an extremely infinitesimally small number of students in this country can’t seem to figure out from one day to the next which freaking BATHROOM to use depending on whether they feel male or female that day, I cannot BELIEVE that our Defense Department is even considering this an issue worth addressing. Seriously? THESE are the people we want in the military? They’ll do really well against the Iranians one day.

  3. In light of the medias’ orgy of giddiness, because a Missouri football player has proudly declared that he is blaspheming God’s created order and mocking the truth of God’s Word: Elton Johnson, a 420 lb. offensive guard with the San Francisco Forty Niners has revealed that he has always been attracted to farm animals; and was recently married to Bruce the billy goat and Bessie the cow, in a ceremo…ny conducted by an Episcopal priest in a barn on Harry Reid’s estate in Nevada.

Immediately! NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, released a statement praising Elton for his incredible courage, and decreeing that any NFL player or coach who criticized Elton would be permanently suspended from the league—“Who are we to judge?”, said Goodell.

Barack Obama called Elton to congratulate him, and praise him as one “who will influence millions of young boys in America”.

Michelle Obama joined in the celebration by sending Bessie the cow a sterling silver bell to wear around her neck in honor of this great step in our evolution as a nation, rising above the bigotry of Biblical myths—“Who are we to judge?”, she stated.

In a hastily arranged news conference, Forty Niner’s coach, Jim Harbaugh, was asked about his thoughts on Elton’s announcement. “I’ll go along with anything to keep my job” Harbaugh stated, “Besides, who are we to judge?”.

When an independent reporter pointed out to Harbaugh that we all make moral judgments every day about: who we will vote for, which doctor we will choose, etc.; a 300 lb. lesbian security guard tased the reporter unconscious and dragged him out by his feet, to the enthusiastic cheers of all the cooperative “journalists” in attendance.

Later in the news conference, a representative of LGBTAL America demanded that Bruce and Bessie be given stalls in the Owner’s Suite at home games, and allowed to travel on the team plane to away games—a request that the team’s owner immediately guaranteed, “…because, who are we to judge?”, he stated.

    • Hey pilgrim, I think the fact that you wrote a lengthy gay fantasy fiction piece proves that you’re the one with real issues.

    • Ah, bringing out the old slippery slope argument for homosexuality and how its
“abhorrent” presence will lead to obvious widespread legalized practice of bestiality I see! How cliché and equally ridiculous. I don’t think you understand that sexual relationships between adults be it heterosexual or homosexual individuals still requires some form of consent. Animals cannot vocalize their consent like humans, therefore your preparedness for the further “degradation” of American society and the rest of the world to accept widespread legal practice of bestiality is just completely illogical and moronic.

  4. I was thinking about a more drawn out, intellectual reply and then it occurred to me that
“Hagel is an idiot” would suffice.

  5. Will you comply with the PC gag order when the pedophiles start telling you that they were born that way, and you are racist for saying that their lifestyle choices are wrong?

    • Please tell me again how pedophilia is related to racism? You can’t? I didn’t think so, as no relationship exists. Enlightenment is a wonderful thing.

      • Islam is not a race but the people who want to silence debate use it to shut down any discussion of the violent passages in the koran.

People are dumb enough to call people racist for disagreeing with the gay agenda. I was using the phraseology to prove a point but you didn’t get it, so…

  6. Now that women, gays and lesbians are eligible for all jobs in the military, why are they not required to register for the draft? If a man doesn’t register he is ineligible for college loans and grants. Isn’t this discrimination against the young men?

  7. When you re-read the article, Hagel calls the issue of transgenders “complicated” while a supporter (Keisling) calls it “basic”. To sum it up, they’re whacky.

  8. Do our enemies have transgender P.O.W. camps? No wonder our enemies think we are weak. Rub their hands in glee. Why should those Muslim extremists do anything. Give ourselves 20-30 years and we will collapse from within. The rot has set in. All the Muslims has to do is be patient. Won’t even have to kick the door open, no one will be minding it(guarding it). Late Roman Empire anyone? Oh wait, they don’t teach history anymore in school just revisionist BS that makes everyone feel good

    • Agree with you on every point but one. It is not going to take 20-30 years, Obama is already bringing in the Muslim extremist, letting illegals out of jail that have committed rape and murder. He is getting his army together and destroying ours.

  9. Hagel clearly has his marching orders from barry. anything to demoralize the troops anything to destroy our military. This is truly disgusting

    • Think about this. If we can get “Our Country” back, can you imagine what it is going to cost us to get “Our Military” back to where it was?

      • Reba! welcome back, good to see you my friend :-).
I have No idea, not much in the way of training, but in equipment, that will tell the difference. ammo probably. They could cut in EBT cards and welfare by getting projects started to put people back to work. Then just move the money back to the military.

      • Hey my friend, how
        are you doing? J

Nope, pull the funding back on all the Green Businesses he is helping and any other crap he has written E.O. for. Cut funding drastically for other countries, UN, BLM, EPA, DHA, IRS and anything else I missed. They need to Audit every department, clean house, find the fraud, problems and fix them.

  10. Where in the comments that Hagel made did he say that this was a priority. I saw the interview and Hagel was asked what his stance was on the transgender issue and he made those comments and said he was open to a review. He never said anything about it being a priority. Allen West trying to make something out of nothing…..SMH.

  11. The very security of this country depends on NOT letting BHO and the O-minions treat our military as another of his failed social experiments. Wake up before it’s too late. Commander-in-Choom needs to back off of his position of shoving sexual deviance at us from every angle.

    • While I loathe President Obama, I can’t help but scoff at your reference to “sexual deviance.” Sexual deviance? Really? Perhaps we should address all the promiscuous cheaters and sex offenders first before we start labeling many people of the LGBTQA community who are more than likely hardworking, intelligent, overall good citizens as “sexual deviants.”
