For what does our Republic stand?

The question for us as Americans — residents of a Constitutional Republic — is for what does this Republic stand?

This week we learned 61 percent of Americans believe our president lies anywhere from some to most of the time. That poll was revealed the day before President Obama took to the White House podium for an unannounced press conference asserting that we now have 8 million Americans signed up for Obamacare — whatever that means.

In an interview granted to CBS reporter Major Garrett — one of many interviews CBS always seems to get — President Obama stated there would be “consequences” for any further military action by Russia in the Ukraine. I seem to remember him saying there would be “consequences” for Syrian President Bashar al Assad for using chemical weapons and that he had to go – but then again that “red line” seemed to be bleached out.

Apparently the only real confirmed consequences emanating from the Obama administration are against his declared political enemies — and guys in cowboy hats. They receive the full brunt of the tactics of force, coercion, and intimidation from designated Obama government agencies, be it IRS or BLM.

And speaking of the IRS, seems they blew a deadline this week to have their computer systems upgraded, at a cost of somewhere near $11 million for the American taxpayer. What would happen to us simple working stiffs if we missed the April 15th deadline to pay our tribute to the government?

Mind you, I don’t have a problem with “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” to a point, but doggone, I’m kinda getting tired of the wasteful spending and the expansion of the welfare nanny-state. I’ve grown disgusted by the use of my taxpayer dollars as largesse by which politicians — especially liberal progressives — bribe the public for their vote. If I hear the president mention “infrastructure repair” one more time, I will need to repair the infrastructure in my home when I destroy my television.

What happened to the “stimulus” and the “shovel-ready jobs” that were supposed to kick start the economy and repair the infrastructure? What is happening with the gas tax monies that the federal government usurps? And again I ask, for what does this Republic stand?

Once upon a time, the word of the leader of the American Republic stood for something, now it is dismissed, disrespected, and disregarded. It’s because we don’t have a leader at this time, just an empty suit speech-giver. And that does not bode well in the face of despots, dictators, autocrats, and theocrats. The dark specter of the 1930s is returning. Then it was Hitler and Chamberlain. Today it is Putin and Obama. Then it was Germany, Italy, and Japan. Today it is Russia, Iran, and China, and its surrogate, North Korea — and the wild card, Islamic terrorists, non-state, non-uniform belligerents.

If we do not restore this Republic to its fundamental principles of the rule of law and individual liberty, we will continue our trek down this road to perdition. If we cannot return to sound fiscal policy to include federal fiscal responsibility and a strong national defense –peace through strength — then the grand experiment begun 237 years ago will fail.

However, I believe — truly believe — in the American resiliency, in our resolve and our indomitable entrepreneurial spirit. As Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Abba Eban said (later attributed to Winston Churchill), “nations do behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.” Let us hope America follows suit.

We’ve tried the whole “fundamental transformation of America” thing and it ain’t working. As a matter of fact, progressive socialism has never worked anywhere in the world.

So let’s get back to our pledge as the Founders intended, — and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation, under God (from a Judeo-Christian heritage) indivisible, with liberty and justice — not government-contrived social egalitarian justice — for all.

I used to get offended with the all caps thing until I had a friend respond that way on FB to me, and I messaged her that it was considered shouting. She responded that she used all caps, because she had difficulty reading things otherwise. I no longer automatically take offense to all caps… along with automatically taking offense to a lot of things. If we would just give individuals the benefit of the doubt and maybe ask them why, and not automatically jump to conclusions (read communicate and use the golden rule… or Matthew 7:12/Luke 6:31 for my fellow… Read more »

She figured out something else to help her, but my main point with my response is that we shouldn’t automatically take offense and we need more of the “golden rule.”… my story about my friend was just a segue to my point. Cheers!

Red & The Pledge

Red Skelton dissects and explains the Pledge of Allegiance

Jacqueline Lynn

I have viewed the Red Skelton explaining of the Pledge of Allegiance to Old Glory. It brings me to tears every time! It should be required at the start of every new Congress and in every school in our nation at the start of every school year.
It is a moving tribute to what our Republic has stood for- for over 2 hundred years – and GOD WILLING will again! Col. Allen West understands this and lives his life by it. Thank you Col. West!

Jacqueline Lynn says: “in every school in our nation at the start of every school year.”

When I was growing up, it was said EVERY MORNING at the beginning of the school day… in PUBLIC schools.

(Please excuse the “all caps,” but there was no other way to put extra emphasis on those words, as there is no way to put words in bold or italics in these comments.)

Jacqueline Lynn

CJ, I was speaking of viewing the Red Skeleton explanation of Our Flag! I agree the Pledge should be recited every day in school and should start every day in both Houses of Congress!

Top Ten Reasons to vote Republican: 10. So that Big Business, including NCAA Universities can go on paying top tier management the equivalent of 300X the average worker. 9. So that oil companies can continue to receive government subsidies and eminent domaine rights to take our private property while polluting our water supplies with fracking. 8. Because I believe that the government should continue using my tax dollars to bribe foreign nations and on massive weapons systems that even the Pentagon lists as beyond our requirements for likely conflicts. 7. I’ll vote Republican because massive donations by corporate special interests… Read more »

Lol. No. I’m actually a successful business executive in the tech sector who has cashed in on stock options several times. I also used to be a Reagan-era Republican, but I left the Party because it has been taken over by the ignorant gun nuts, the racist haters, and the self-interested upper middle class who are fine with cutting programs that help the less fortunate while they live like kings. I’m ashamed of what the Republican Party has become.

You do understand the Democrat Party is everything you listed also. Single mothers can’t depend on the Federal Govt. to provide for them. The job of the Federal Govt. is to protect this nation, and not to provide food, clothing, and health care to citizens. There are state programs for that. The reason the federal govt. is in the mess it’s in, is because it is doing so many things it’s not supposed to do, and not doing the job it is supposed to do. Single mothers are not in that position because of society. They are there because of… Read more »

I love the flat tax idea. It makes complete sense and would allow us to deflate that swollen tick, the IRS. One of the main reasons that we do not have a flat tax is that it would be a disadvantage to the super-wealthy. And since they are the ‘contributor class’, the small percentage of citizens who donate sizable amounts to campaign funds, they have unprecedented access and control over our law makers. If we want a more fair and streamlined tax code, we first need to weed out the corruption built into the political system. We need comprehensive campaign… Read more »

You do understand that only those who obtain special permits can own ‘automatic weapons’…don ‘t you? Or do you?

Glenn Drover
Guest
I do. You understand that conversion of legal semi-automatic assault weapons to fully automatic is extremely easy don’t you? And that the gun nuts who own these weapons are the ones likely to do it. But let’s set fully automatic conversions aside because they are a small percentage. Let’s just focus on the several million semi-automatic weapons in private hands in this country. The weapons that are commonly used in the mass shootings and gang wars. By allowing private citizens to stockpile these weapons in growing numbers every year, we are not making our homes safer, or protecting ourselves from… Read more »

Tell me Glenn, when you say ‘gun nuts’, do you really think you will illicit a positive response?
Those ‘mass shootings’ you referred to, are they not primarily carried out in “Gun Free Zones”? And when was the last time a Gangbanger applied for a license to carry? Check the statistics Glenn, legal gun ownership suppresses crime…and keeps an overzealous government from enslaving the American citizens…but I’m sure you’ll disagree…

Glenn Drover

I think that we will agree on several things actually: 1. Gun Free Zones cannot ever work. It is impossible to limit guns in one place while guns are cheap, easy to get, and in ready supply just outside the gun free zone. 2. The U.S. Military is the strongest and best equipped in the world. Citizens who oppose the government could never hope to be anything but a speedbump to the power of the U.S. military, the FBI, and S.W.A.T. who, in the case of an overzealous government, would show up and suppress them with extreme prejudice. Being well… Read more »

I get it, you don’t think that citizens have any real rights pertaining to their freedom from an oppressive government. The last I heard Chicago was a gun-free zone…how’s that been working out? When your five shots are gone and there are still attackers on your premises, you can tell them they should wait until you reload because you think only the government should carry the weapons your attackers are using…Let me know how that goes… You seem to be under the impression that in today’s world that under-armed enemies are a non-factor…I direct you to Afghanistan…and to a lesser… Read more »

Your reply doesn’t make any sense as a response to my post. Did you even read it and comprehend what it meant before you started typing? I said that gun free zones can’t work. The one in Chicago is the best example of why…because guns are cheap and legally available in huge quantities just outside the city. Where did I say that citizens have no rights against an oppressive government? What I said was that our rights cannot be ensured by arms caches in the hands of private citizens. It’s no real deterrent. Only a delusional mind would entertain the… Read more »

Oh, I haven’t missed it. I was watching closely enough to see the differences between a fundamentalist driven insurgency in a war torn wasteland half the world away in a country that holds zero strategic value for the U.S. And whatever you imagine an armed revolt in our homeland might look like and the response that it would elicit. Interesting that you don’t understand the chasm-wide difference, and even more interesting that you look to them as an example.

I can think of solid reasons why each of the reasons above is BS, out of context from reality or outright lies. 10) Why do Democrats never look at all the entertainment people making several million dollars per lousy Hollywood movie and all they do with that money with respect to employment is have a staff of servants that likely make absolute peanuts but they zero in on some business owner making money without ever looking at what sort of life this business owner is providing all his employee’s and ignoring the thousands of dollars this business owner has to… Read more »

West, I think you need to check your history book. The “under God” part wasn’t part of the original statement. It was added by Pres Eisenhower in 58. As far I as remember, Eisenhower wasn’t a founder. The founders intended no mention of God in the pledge.

smknnjoe

You know I think that he knows that. The point that he is making is that this country, it’s constitution, the Decalration of Independence, it’s legal system, and the moral and ethical code that the founding fathers followed were based upon Judeo-Christian values. Based on your garb would rather we follow a system based on Sharia law??? I don’t and as a 20 year Navy veteran I will fight any imposition of such doctrine!!!!!

That is complete garbage, everything the founders created was based on completely secular common law. In fact, some of the most prominent founders weren’t Judeo-Christian, they were Deists (Washington, Adams, etc.) or outright atheists (Jefferson.) “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” ~ Article 11, Treaty of Tripoli, ratified unanimously by the United States senate June 7, 1797 signed into law by Founding Father and President of the United States John Adams June 7, 1797. “Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.” ~Founding… Read more »

The founders were indeed Judeo-Christian, but they were smart enough to enshrine the idea that the government should never be in the business of promoting or preferring one religion over another. Religious freedom was one of the primary reasons that many of their forebears had fled Europe for America.
That freedom extends to this day, and means that we are free to worship any way we choose, including Islam. Your nasty remark about the OP’s garb was inappropriate.

Great stuff…here’s to hoping the American people have finally learned the evils of liberalism…the democrat platform for fifty years has been the exact same as common drug dealers who front load freebies to entrap their victims for life…It has to stop.

The Democratic platform has always been tax and spend, it was never a progressive, wealth redistribution, or sociocratic party. The Democratic party of the 1960’s has been hijacked. Compare Kennedy to Obama or any Democrat of today.

Democrats, partly funded by liberal billionaire George Soros, are pushing laws in each state legislature that would force the state’s electors to vote for the winner of the national popular vote. Well said, Mr. West. I have to ask though, considering that Princeton, one of America’s most liberal universities, has said without reservation we now live in an oligarchy. If that is true, then aren’t all politicians lying to “We the People” for not informing us of it? Which is it, are they afraid it could start a civil war, or just keeping their useless jobs?

Well said. So what do we do to restore the Constitution and the republic when one entire political party decides to disregard the rule of law and the Constitution and the other party cooperates? Our Founders never foresaw that one.

Congressman West:
As per: “As a matter of fact, progressive socialism has never worked anywhere in the world.”, I can only be amazed at the many times that government power in the hands of too few people has failed and led to the murder and destruction of hundreds of millions of lives over the past 100 years. Yet, in spite of this bloody history, progressives, formerly called communists, still insanely yearn to re-establish this abomination as a form of government. For the love of humanity, this has got to stop or be stopped.

“So let’s get back to our pledge as the Founders intended, — and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation, under God (from a Judeo-Christian heritage) indivisible, with liberty and justice — not government-contrived social egalitarian justice — for all.” Keep peddling your nonsense, West. The founders did not intend for “one Nation, under God”. That phrase was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 1950s as propaganda against “godless Communism” while McCarthy was running his witch hunts. The best part is that, when challenged in court, it was ruled that “God” refers only to a general… Read more »
