Photo IDs fail to suppress Afghan vote — never mind the suicide bombs

Voters in Afghanistan with their photo IDs

Talk about voter suppression! Voters in Afghanistan have had to dodge drive-by shootings and suicide bombings, but there’s not a word about the “indignity” of carrying a photo I.D. to the polling place.

As the Associated Press reports, The run-up to the election was troubling: the Islamic radicals of the Taliban, reviled by many but still popular in some areas, view the entire enterprise as the work of outsiders and infidels, and they vowed to disrupt it by targeting polling centers and election workers.

To drive home the threat, insurgents in recent weeks stepped up shootings and bombings in the heart of Kabul to show they are capable of striking even in highly secured areas. A restaurant popular with foreigners and one of the capital’s main hotels were hit, killing many. Suicide bombers struck relentlessly.

On Friday, veteran Associated Press photographer Anja Niedringhaus was killed and AP reporter Kathy Gannon was wounded when a local policeman opened fire as they sat in their car on the outskirts of Khost, in eastern Afghanistan. The two were at a security forces base, waiting to move in a convoy of election workers delivering ballots — apparent victims of an “insider attack” in which the very people tasked with protection turn out to be insurgents.

But as you can see in this video, the people of Afghanistan will not be cowed, and will do what they can to ensure democratic elections — even if it means getting a photo for a voter identification. You cannot tell me citizens of the United States face a hardship in getting photo IDs to show at their polling place. How do the people of Afghanistan manage it, when they don’t have a CVS, Walgreens or Duane Reade at every corner?

When liberals in this country talk about “voter suppression” they really mean “fraudulent voter suppression” — yes, requiring a photo I.D. will suppress fraudulent votes. If you don’t agree with me, come on down to Florida and we’ll chat about it. But first, try getting on the plane without your repressive photo IDs.

  1. The Dems can’t win an election without the help of fraudulent voters. Voting is one of our most important duties as American citizens, and with the number of illegals in this country, a voter ID is a must. You can’t open a bank account, or fly on an airplane without an ID. If you don’t look 40+, you can’t even buy a 6 pack of beer without getting carded. Now with the country angry about Obamacare, the Dems are going to need their entire deck of “cheats” to win any upcoming elections. I personally think Mitt would be President today if it weren’t for voter fraud and the IRS suppressing the Tea Party. Voter ID cards are a necessity……………Period.

  2. I seriously just don’t understand the argument for why requiring an ID to vote is considered racist and discriminatory. As has been pointed out many many times, you need to show an ID for just about everything. Even government services require some form of ID to ‘collect’ anything, I’m willing to bet the person on welfare had to ‘prove’ who they were from some sort of ID method.
The argument against voter ID makes absolutely no sense.

    • It’s just a ploy to continue making Republicans the enemy. Those that don’t do their homework believe everything they see or hear on social media. The real issue is fraud at the polls. THIS is what they don’t want to fix.

    • That’s because a rational mind, like yours, knows that allegations of racism and discrimination are utterly lucidrous. The left’s sole tools rely on manufactured outrage over…well…everything. Their means of argument is the functional equivalent of your 4-year-old having a foot-stomping tantrum and threatening to hold his breath til you give in. In this case…that breath holding ploy is one that should not be dissuaded.

  3. I wish the liberal media would do a small feature on these rare and wonderful American citizens who languish in the shadows without any form of photo identification, and let them explain how hard it would be for them to get any. Maybe we can help them get some ID.

  4. Voting rights advocates oppose ID laws for the same reason gun rights advocates oppose registration laws.

On the grounds that it is unConstitutional.

If you wish to mock or marginalize those that oppose voter ID laws because getting a voter ID isn’t a big deal… I hope you also do the same for those who oppose gun registration.

It’s always funny (in a sad way) when one side clings to the Constitution when it suits them, and then attacks the other side for doing the same thing when it’s an issue they disagree with.

Me… I support people’s Constitutional rights, regardless of whether it supports an agenda I agree with or not.

    • Brendan, where in the Constitution does it say that registering to vote and Photo I.D’s are illegal? and post the link so we can all share the info.
No where in the second amendment does it say that we must register our firearms? It doesn’t

      • It doesn’t … that’s the point I’m making.
Where in the Constitution does it say guns must be registered?
        it doesn’t say that.
Where in the Constitution does it say voters must have IDs?
        It doesn’t say that either.

The Constitution does, however, say that the right to bear arms “shall not be infringed”… and that the right to vote shall not “in any way be abridged.”

That’s in section 2 of the 14th Amendment.

the only changes, made by Congress, over the years, has been to allow women and blacks and to lower the age from 21 to 18.

      • Thank you for verifying that, Now the reason that they want voter I,D is to keep the elections honest.
Have you ever heard of gun registration keeping people honest? Honest people do not use their weapons for crime only criminals do. So all the gun laws, infringe on honest law abiding people. They never ever apply to criminals.
Voter I.D would apply to criminals and honest people alike, but the laws do not abridge anyone’s right to vote. All it does is curtail Fraudulent voting.
Now do you see the difference?

      • Because fake ID’s are so hard to obtain, just ask any college student. Anyone set on breaking federal voter law is not going to be stopped by a piece of laminated paper or plastic. Just like someone wanting to commit a violent crime is not going to be stopped by gun control laws or permit requirements. It’s a farce people, open your eyes, it’s just another means of control.

      • Such as? Surely, your enlightened liberal…er…wisdom…can enlighten us with something less vapid and sophomoric than what you just posted?

      • Gheez I dunno the whole war on everything that is not white middled aged, well-to-do Christian male? Sorry if takes long to answer, I’m at the office.

      • That’s the best answer you have? I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. You liberals are the problem this country has that’s for sure

      • People who are in the market for fake id’s are so they can drive a car or buy a drink. Only conservatives are so obsessed with elections to even thing about voting twice. Most people can’t even be bothered to vote once. This is way past the grotesque.

      • I am aware of the difference between voter ID laws and gun registrations.
That was not at all the point i was making.

The point I was making was that those who oppose gun registration and those who oppose voter ID laws share similar principles and concerns about a slippery slope and upholding the rights laid out in the Constitution.

i happen to support the idea of voter ID laws, but i understand the Constitutional concerns of those who don’t.

      • The point I am making, is the principles are polar opposites. While gun registration is wrong and goes against the Constitution. Voter I.D’s support the Constitution. through valid voting. I don’t believe it is any more a slippery slope than drivers licences. The one exception is California where they allow illegals to get drivers licences. Which to me is ridiculous. The California exception is a deliberate act to get more people to vote democrat, even though they are illegals

      • Why are you guys always lying about integrity of elections. Conservatives always complain about integrity when they lose. It’s about requiring the ID and then make it as difficult as possible for the people you want to keep from the ballot from getting it. Enough already no one is buying that malarkey. If you think about it’s genius, complain about integrity to have more leeway to rig the vote. Same thing with immigration reform. You just don’t want these people to vote and hide behind the constitution.

      • First of all it was proven that there was voter fraud in the election of bho not just once but both elections
Second, There is no purpose in lying about something that is prevalent.
Democrats always complain about GOP wins. While Democrats complained about the process of Electoral College votes they never complained about voter fraud.
Anyone black white orange green Hispanic or Oriental always have more than enough time to get voter I.D.’s. That is a lame excuse. If people of color cannot get to the voting booth they have as much time to get absentee ballots. This nonsense about viter i.D’s will hamper voters from voting is a load of horse dung, the only thing that voter i.D. would do is get rid of the fraud

  5. If the Democrats are so opposed to photo ID’s why do they require a photo ID to attend the Democrat National Convention?

  6. Anyone that tries to vote without proper, legal ID, including photo, should be prohibited from voting and immediately added to the no fly list. Because if they do not have proper I D with which to vote, then, it should be assumed that any ID they use for traveling is illicit, and if they still want to fly, they should have to go to a government office and wait for hours to have their ID validated.

  7. If you watch the video you see a woman dipping her hand in what looks like purple ink. Next to it is a rag where you see ink smears as if they use the rag to wipe the ink of of the finger. I’m betting it is because once yo9u show your ID to vote you have to leave your inked fingerprint either on a ledger or on the ballot itself.

      • Not so sure “inking” or “tatooing” people would be the solution here. Remember the Holocaust…

      • There is no Holocaust corollary to a temporary ink stain on the tip of one’s finger; surely, you are not suggesting a parallel to permanent tattoos forced onto millions and millions of Jews.

      • I hear what you’re saying but photo ID doesn’t leave any marks on the skin, permanent or otherwise.

  8. The Afghans put us to shame. They are literally taking their lives in their hands to vote. Here we sit in perfect safety and we can’t get people out to vote. I truly admire these people, even if they vote against something I believe in, at least they are voting, doing their part as citizens of a country. The people of the United States are losing their freedom and can’t be bothered to do anything about it. Voter IDs are so easy to get in this country, not so easy in Afghanistan, but they did it. So can we.

  9. Fraud has been running rampant, from home mortgage applications, credit cards, ID theft and…voting. It destroys lives, discriminates against no one and affects…everyone. As Americans, we should not mind putting forth the effort to lower this risk and present photo ID’s when voting because it’s what keeps us free as a nation.

    • Obama WANTS fraud and crime. He is one of the biggest criminals. My hope that after he is out of office they will prosecute him and his main people – Holder, Reid, etc. They e the lawless ones.

  10. Ever hear of the saying ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’? That’s the case here; voter fraud has NEVER exceeded .0001% in ANY election, and that’s a FACT. With that being the case, what reason is there for wanting to require a photo ID? The only reason I can think of is to disenfranchise a group of voters who don’t have an ID, for the purpose of preventing the opposing party for getting votes. If voter fraud was a problem, I’d be in support of voter ID laws. But the sick motives of the GOP are disgraceful, and I can’t support voter ID laws

    • Prove that fact with documentation, please. Emphasizing a word here and there with all caps is not a valid means of asserting a meme. Has it occurred to you that that beloved stat mindlessly churned up up by the left relies on, among things, the discovery of and subsequent sanctioning of fraud? The 2012 presidential elections have revealed rampant instances of actual or probable fraud, i.e. the Philly voter turnout in 59 districts that is mathematically impossible, having exceeded 100%, with 100% of that already impossible number going to Obama. Nor is Philly unique in these circumstances….multiple urban areas, primarily, across the country reported similar instances. But…that was then; now, we have North Carolina finding tens of thousands of fraudulent votes (link at bottom of post). Moreover, the point you apparently are willfully ignoring is that, in spite of the far greater effort and risk that Afghan voters undertake in order to vote, they find a way around those authentic hardships, with nary a pretense of outrage or ‘hardship’.

      • Regardless of whether you’re a liberal or a conservative, we can all agree that the right to vote is a form of free speech, and a constitutionally protected right. That being said, the burden of proof lies with the state to demonstrate a ‘compelling government interest’ for instituting voter ID laws. The state must also prove that voter ID laws serve their purpose in the ‘least restrictive way possible’. The court has long recognized, that if you can’t prove both of those things, the law is unconstitutional. This prevents government overreach and infringements on our rights as citizens. Simply saying that voter fraud exists, is not in itself a valid argument for voter ID laws. Especially given the fact that while voter fraud does exist, it hardly ever is committed by the individual citizens themselves. Whenever you look at a case of large-scale voter fraud, it’s not a multitude of citizens acting independently. It’s a large special interest group acting illegally. If you think that individual citizens commit voter fraud at a high rate, than prove it to me. Find me one simple case where individual voter fraud exceeded 1%. Heck, I’ll make it easier for you. Find me one simple case where individual voter fraud exceeded .01%. That’s all I’m asking you to do, is find one case where individual voter fraud exceeded one hundreth of a percent. I am confident that you will be unable to do so. Individual citizens do not commit voter fraud at any significant rate. It’s rare, very rare, and restricting the right to vote of individual citizens will not solve the problem of voter fraud. Statistically speaking, that’s a fact.

  11. What’s with the comparing of the US with second and third world countries? We should treat gays and Muslims like Russia we should vote like Afghanistan. What’s next? We should eat like Ethiopians? Where’s American exceptionalism when it’s time to go the the ballots. Does the author imply Americans are lucky not to have to dodge bullets and bombs to make it to the ballots? One more thing which photo ID those Afghans used? Their camel riding license? Did they have to pay for it? Was it provided by the government.

      • Photo ID would not only lower the risk of fraud but (and this is a personal favorite of mine) would also increase the level of frustration felt by the likes of obama, sharpton, hillary and even harry reid.

    • As a matter of fact all Americans have to dodge on the way to the polls are raindrops and snow flakes! When was the last time you heard of an American WALKING BAREFOOT for 10 miles to vote?
In answer to your moronic and ad hominum questions as to the type, cost and availability of the Afghan photo id, I suggest you review the “onerous” North Carolina law which was objected to by the Federal Department of Justice. If you were to do so you would find that a State IDS card valid for more than voting, but less than driving purposes would be provided to undocumented LEGAL CITIZENS of the state FREE. Not only that, the state would provide FREE transportation to the location to obtain the card!
Frankly, in answer to your last two questions about Afghan election integrity and fraud, given the number of precincts voting 100% (without even ONE ACCIDENTAL VOTE for Romney) for Obama, the number of proven deceased persons voting for Obama (I’d LOVE to see their photos) the county 4 miles from where I live having 107% of its registered voter voting and a “mysteriously” crashed and burned (only reported once and NO casualty estimate or list given) military helicopter carrying military absentee ballots from Afghanistan, my answer is yes, the Afgan vote probably has greater integrity than ours.

  12. Wow, the Obama Leg Humpers are out in Full force – still fighting against Voter ID Laws – especially on this website – w US Congressman Allen West.

    *

If the democratic party’s “Re-Districting” was not enough – intended to affect the re-election of Republican US Congressman Allen West,

Boxes of “uncounted” early ballot votes – were reported by a Whistleblower – to be hidden in a closet near the office of Gertrude Walker as Supervisor of Elections in St. Lucie county, FLORIDA = resulting in cause for a Recount – by US Congressman Allen West –

and the democrat candidate to file a Lawsuit trying to prevent the recount (wth).

    Walker had “failed to perform her job properly” – and failed to have an accurate vote count – by the deadline on the date of 2012 presidential election – when Walker failed to include the boxes of “uncounted” early ballot votes – in the ELECTION RESULTS for St. Lucie county;

Walker “failed to perform her job properly” – when she missed the deadline to report the count to the Recount – and checked herself into a hospital –

which in my assessment was Walker “hiding” in a hospital – for when her next ploy to Manipulate the election results in St. Lucie county would become known =

Walker refusing to follow “orders” to purge the voter rolls for St. Lucie county – of deceased people, ineligible voters.

Walker should be held accountable for her “failure to perform her job properly” – especially w

the arrogant “excuseS” given by DNC and Walker = Walker’s failure to meet the deadline to report the recount – was met with the EXCUSE = “West would not have won re-election – anyway” – and the EXCUSE for Walker’s obvious intentions to manipulate election results in St. Lucie county by failing to follow orders to purge the voter rolls = purging the voter rolls was not in her “budget”, although it is in her Job Description as Supervisor of Elections – to keep accurate voter rolls.

Walker had over Two YEARS to purge the voter rolls for St. Lucie county, FLORIDA – leading into the 2012 presidential election – Walker had actively concealed from the State of Florida that she was refusing to follow orders to purge the voter rolls for St. Lucie county- and did not request additional money for this “expense” – as the flimsy excuse given to not purge the voter rolls as not being in her “budget”.

Walker performed her job as an “operative” for the Democratic Party – maintaining the INaccurate vote count for St. Lucie county for the deadline of the night of the 2012presidential election, by Walker failing to have an accurate Vote Count to the Early Ballot votes, failing to include the early ballot votes in the count to Election results on day of 2012 election – and byWalker failing to meet the deadline to report the vote count to the Recount – for Walker to continue to maintain an inaccurate vote count – to manipulate the Election Results in St. Lucie county for 2012 presidential election in the Popular election – in the Criminal Conspiracy devised by the democratic party to “trick-out” the vote count in the Popular Election – in order to trick-out the numbers on the Electoral votes on behalf of Democrat Obama.

Any early ballot vote for Republican US Congressman Allen West was also a vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Any vote cast by a deceased person and/or ineligible voter – that occurred from Walker refusing to follow “orders” to purge the voter rolls in St. Lucie county, Florida, is the democratic party’s means to “protect” Vote Fraud and Election Fraud – as further evidenced by Obama and Holder as US AG – and Democratic Party “operatives” filing Lawsuits against States passing VOTER ID Laws and States seeking to purge their voter rolls of deceased people and ineligible voters.

While Walker’s actions – and inactions – indicate she was an “operative” for the Democratic Party, Walker “failed to perform her job properly” as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county – to follow orders to purge the voter rolls – leading into the 2012 presidential election; to maintain accurate voter rolls to ensure the election results could not be manipulated through vote fraud; failed to meet the deadline to report the Vote Count to the Recount; failed to include the boxes of “uncounted” early ballot votes that were not included in the Election Results for St. Lucie county by the deadline of the day of the election – failed to perform her job properly to have an accurate vote count for the deadline on the date of the 2012 presidential election – and continued her charade – to maintain an inaccurate vote count on the date of the 2012 presidential election – by Walker failing to perofrm her Job properly as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county – when she failed to meet the deadline to report the Vote Count to the Recount.

Walker “failed to perform her job properly” – as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, FLORIDA – for Walker to demand an investigation and prosecution of the personS and/or partieS responsible for hiding boxes of early ballot votes – “uncounted” – that was reported by a whistleblower to be hidden in a closet near her office – discovered “after” Walker reported the Election Results for the 2012 presidential election. Walker’s failure to demand an investigation – and prosecution of these matters – to “protect” her job as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, Florida, indicates Walker is more than likely aware of how the boxes of “uncounted” early ballot votes were hidden in a closet near her office.

These corrupt machinations resulted in Election documents for St. Lucie county – to be false; Election Documents for the congressional district to be falsified w inaccurate Election Results – and inaccurate Election Documents being submitted to the State of Florida – w inaccurate Election Results – that affects the Election Results across The USA – and affects the Electoral Votes for the 2012 presidential election.

Gertrude Walker as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county – should face the same treatment as her friend Miriam Oliphant, the disgraced Supervisor of Elections for Broward county, Florida – who was removed from office for her “failure to perform her job properly” – in having inaccurate vote counts for Broward county, Florida.

Also, according to Election Documents for Broward county, Gertrude Walker as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, Florida – was directly involved in the Vote Count process in Broward county – that led to Miriam Oliphant being removed from office as Supervisor of Elections for Broward county, Florida. But, Walker refused to sign any documents to have her friend Miriam Oliphant removed from office.

    • Voters in Afghanistan have Voter IDs to cast their votes – risking their lives to go to the polling stations – against Drive-by shootings and Suicide bombers at the polling stations by Islamic extremists – trying to affect the elections in Afghanistan-

while We the People have our own problems w Elections in The USA – by the Democratic Party fighting against VOTER ID Laws – obama as POTUS and as a presidential candidate for re-election – conspiring with Democratic Party operatives – such as Estelle Rodgers as Director of Project VOTE – scheduling meetings at the White House = colluding w Obama and The White House and Eric Holder as US AG and DOJ attorneys – to file “separate” Lawsuits against States passing Voter ID Laws and States seeking to purge their Voter rolls of deceased people and ineligible voters –
as evidenced by the court order acquired by Judicial Watch, a non-partisan government watchdog organization based out of Washington, DC – that filed a LAWSUIT to acquire “public” information – when Obama and The White House and Eric Holder as US Attorney General – refused to co-operate for FREEDOM of INFORMATION Act requests – submitted by Judicial Watch.

The Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, Florida – Gertrude Walker – abused her position – as a democratic party “operative” – to manipulate Election Results in St. Lucie county – and should be removed from office for her “failure to perform her job properly” – for the 2012 presidential election – as what previously occurred with her friend Miriam Oliphant, the disgraced Supervisor of Elections for Broward county – for her Vote Count inaccuracies.

also, make complaint to Secretary of State, Chief of Elections for State of Florida – Ken Detzner =

Gertrude Walker as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, Florida – should be removed from office – for her “failure to perform her job properly” for the 2012 election – at the very least.

Walker has been on the job for over EIGHTEEN years – and should be investigated – and prosecuted – for Walker failing to follow “orders” to purge the voter rolls for St. Lucie county – leading into the 2012 presidential election – and Walker concealing this – until it was discovered “after” she reported the Election Results, and discovered only after Walker failed to meet the deadline to report the Vote Count for the Recount – when the Recount was acquired by Republican candidate Allen West up for re-election – during the 2012 presidential election – from the suspicious activities of boxes of “uncounted” Early Ballot Votes reported by a Whistleblower to be hidden in closets near her office.

This indicates Walker as Supervisor of Elections for St. Lucie county, Florida – “failed to perform her job properly” – to have an accurate count to the early ballot votes, failed to have an accurate count on the day of the Election for the early ballot votes to be included in the Election Results; failed to have accurate Vote Count for the day of the Election; failed to meet the deadline to report the Vote Count for the Recount – that affected accurate Election Results for St. Lucie county, affects Election Results for the entire congressional district, affects election results for the State of Florida – that affects the Election Results for the USA.

Failing to have accurate Vote Count practices – during a “presidential” election – is the means to “trick-out” the vote count for the Popular election – in order to “trick-out” the votes on the Electoral Votes.
