Blame Bush: Why Obama gets so little respect from the troops

Today Jennifer Rubin wrote an article in the Washington Post titled, “Why do the troops think so little of Obama?” I find it curious anyone even wonders why. Isn’t it obvious?

According to the Post’s poll of members of the armed services who went to Iraq or Afghanistan, is president is much less respected by the troops he leads than his predecessor: When it comes to their most-senior commander, the vets decisively prefer [President] George W. Bush to [President] Obama. Only a third approve of the way Obama is handling his job, and 42 percent of them think he has been a good commander in chief despite his decisions to bring troops home from Iraq, wind down the war in Afghanistan and increase resources for veterans. By contrast, nearly two-thirds of them think Bush, who launched both wars, was a good commander in chief.”

You see, one can command troops to attend a gathering and they will abide by the rule of mandatory happy, but that doesn’t mean you’re respected.

What civilians fail to realize is that we join the military to serve, realizing that the rigors of combat and privation are a part of that service, sacrifice, and commitment. We’re not looking for someone “posing” as a leader who uses us as political pawns and gives away the hard-earned gains we’ve achieved. What troops want are leaders who are principled and will stand and have heartfelt sorrow when one of our brothers or sisters gives that last full measure of devotion.

What we see happening to our military under the Obama administration is unconscionable. The cutting of benefits to those serving, have served, and their families is disturbing. To have a Secretary of Defense step forward and announce we are cutting our military capability and capacity at a time when the world is far more volatile is perplexing.

To hear President Obama come out and say that we are war weary? When in the heck has he put on combat gear and humped on a patrol or spent years deployed?

Real combat troops don’t look for a fight, but when a fight comes their way, they want to win. And they expect leadership that will stand with them seeking victory, not retreat, masked as some insidious political campaign promise.

Ms. Rubin asks, “How might the president improve his reputation among the troops, while doing himself some good with allies and foes alike on the world stage? Her answers are spot on! Rubin says:

For one thing, the inexcusable and continual cutting of the defense budget should end. The president’s mealy-mouthed Quadrennial Defense Review should be redone to add some specific analysis of our threats and the recommended means of meeting those threats.

Next, in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is time to stop assuring our foes of everything we are unwilling to do and instead devise a concrete strategy for securing the gains our fighting men and women obtained. That may mean providing aid and logistical support to Iraq to fend off Iranian influence.

It would also require a robust defense of our intelligence gathering, which anticipates not only attacks and plots against the homeland but against our troops around the world.

And finally, it is time to install a respected and capable secretary of defense with a competent national security team to exclude political hacks from national security decision-making and to become realistic about the state of the world.

In the military, respect from the troops must be earned. Then it is true. Men and women in uniform will always render proper deference to those who are of higher rank — that is proper military courtesy. But true respect is something far more than just a simple hand salute or rendering of “Sir” or “Ma’am.” True respect is an indicator of immense pride and regard, and can at times be just a simple nod.

I advised young officers that you’ll know your men respect you when, for example, you’re out in civilian clothes off a military installation, and your soldiers see you, come up and greet you in earnest. You’ll know they have utmost respect when they’re with their family and introduce you as “my Commander.” If soldiers see you and evade you, there is no respect.

One could only wish that President Obama would stand up to America’s global foes as he does to his domestic political foes. That would require true courage. But that’s why Obama does not garner true respect.

  1. Barry QUIT taking the vets benifts and saying “we have no money” and the very next day giving extra money to welfare… When will we have no money for that? THEN maybe soldiers might give you a chance. 55 dems and 10 republicans voted to take their benifits not to long ago, Senate republicans tried to veto and your puppet harry reid would not allow the veto. Barry YOU signed off on the bill hours lated to quickly take our vets benifits.

73% of US soldiers vote republican, 87% of inmates, felons claim democrat, think that speaks for itself. When is the last time barry soetoro shed a tear for americans? You’re a muslim, your brother admitted it, your father, your wife is on camera stating you were born in kenya. You’re the one spreading all your anti-america through your own actions, then we all know you want white guilt and pro-black/muslim.

YOU have showed us that. You show us that america should start wars with syria and ukraine. Communist controlled countries that will never solve anything bc they live under your beliefs as well. NO, We will not send our protectors to fight thugs who kill their own thugs. Bush loved and loves america and the troops, I saw him while on tour in 08. He also always visited us in the states, HE WAS SINCERE, YOU’RE NOT.

WOW, I wonder soldiers don’t like you?

    • Now we know liberal democrats will be here soon and blame bush

Please do list all the crimes and lies you have on Bush?

While you google to find your answer, My turn

Bush was in office for 10 months before the “religion of peace” murdered 2,996 americans in 2 hours, The biggest terroist attack in mankind history.

Today’s democrats cry we should have slapped them on the hands? Well if we would have tried that method, You can bet Iran, Iraq and MANY other countries would still be attacking the US today. US is big brother, since day 1 EVERYBODY has attacked big brother, it’s called history. MANY democrats, and other countries also stated Iran and iraqn had MWOD, This is all over the web to verify.

Pssst, Come here you racist, ignorant democrats, I have some facts…

Civil War (D) Democrats killed 600,000 americans in 6 years bc republicans were finally freeing the slaves….

Woodrow Wilson (D) World War 1

      Franklin D. Roosevelt (D) World War 2

Harry S. Truman (D) Korean War

John F. Kennedy (D) and Lyndon B. Johnson (D) Vietnam

Barry Soetoro (D) ONLY PERSON IN THE US WHO WANTED WAR WITH SYRIA. Actually I lied, MANY other democrats wanted war… Even though Syria was not bothering the US. Actually Syria’s thugs were killing their own thugs…. Now Puttin ownes Obama, Obama can’t do anything right and making everything worse about ready to start another world war, and puttin would strike in a heartbeat if we closer.

Go check and see how many deployed US soldiers votes were not counted in 2012? Better yet, ask obama why? Now move on to how ALL inmates eligible to vote had their votes in and registered with months to spare..

      1. Detroit, 33.3% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 52 years

      2. Cleveland, 30.5% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 20 years

      3. Buffalo, 30.3% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 43 years

      4. Newark, 26.1% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 102 years

      5. Miami, 25.6% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 52 years

      6. Fresno, 25.5% in poverty–Republican Mayor for the last 13 years. “Go check out the poulation by race/ethnicity, there you go”…

      7. Cincinnati, 25.1% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 29 years

      8. Toledo, 24.7% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 20 years

      9. El Paso, 24.3% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 120 years

      10. Philadelphia, 24.1% in poverty–Democrat Mayor for the last 57 years

      • Yea, democrats said there were WMDs in Iraq. The difference is some Democrats have actually owned up for committing a tragic error. With Republicans it’s alway “Yea, people died because of a mistake we made but, hey, crap happens.”

As for the Civil War, anyone even remotely familiar with the politics of that time know that a 19th Century Democratic Party was Conservative, and the Republican Party was liberal. You guys always leave that part out.

World War 1: I thought you guys were all for standing up to evil?

World War 2: Did you forget we were attacked first? And should we have done nothing in Europe?

Korean War: So containing Communism is evil now, or is it only right when a Republican does it.

Vietnam: Funny you leave out the Nixon escalation and the invasions of Cambodia and Laos.

2012: Got any independent, non partisan sources on those election numbers or should we take your word for it?

As for the cities, I doubt does Republican tax cuts for the rich have helped any. And funny how you leave out important things, like how the states with the highest number of welfare recipients are Red. And then Fresno, you try to bury the fact it is a Red city with “race and ethnicity.” An you guys claim the Left is always bringing up race.

      • If FDR had not gotten involved in WWII, conservatives would STILL be blaming him for NOT getting involved and for being weak. You can’t win with hypocritical extremists.

      • You lost me in the beginning of your post where you gave Bush a pass for 9/11 and then gave an imaginary hypothetical scenario of how democrats would have handled it.
You are actually attacking Democrats for a hypothetical scenario you imagined.

I also enjoyed the part of your rant where you blamed Democrats for Korea and WW2.

So when North Korea invaded South Korea and attacked US forces there, we should have done nothing?
And for WW2, are you saying we should have not responded to the attack on Pearl harbor?

Wow… on the one hand, you blame Democrats for your imaginary scenario where they (in your imagination) didn’t strike back after 9/11… and on the other hand you blame Democrats for fighting back when our forces were attacked at Pusan, Korea and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

      • Just exactly why do you blame Bush for 9/11? He did not have intell it was going to happen? Did you? You better go back to slickwillie Clinton and the FIRST attack on the towers if you want to place blame anywhere.

      • I don’t blame Bush completely.
        But I don’t give him a pass.
It happened on his watch… he shares responsibility.

      • I find it ironic how Obama is to blame for a terrorist attack (Benghazi) that happened under his watch, but Bush shares no blame for the terrorist attacks that happened under his. I don’t blame Bush for 9/11 at all, but I also don’t blame Obama for Benghazi. I like to stay consistent and not hold double standards.

    • Not even close to being done. Notice how 90% of democrats also deny barry has done nothing wrong ever, does not even lie… Then notice how 90% of dems spend all their time worried about one republican GOV who might have impeeded traffic for a few days on a single bridge. Notice how they have convicted him as soon as the story broke out…

Owel, Facts are facts, I don’t like opinions

First President to have personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.

First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense.

First President to repeat the Holy Quran and tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth

First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states (Mexico vs Arizona).

First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they “volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences.”
Then he was the First President to tell the members of the military that THEY were UNPATRIOTIC for balking at the last sggestion. (Thank God he didn’t get away with THIS one.)

      • You are quite correct! However, the saddest part of this is that 40% or so of the American citizenry still APPROVE of the so-called job he’s doing! His approval rating should be 5 or 10% (there will always be fools around).

      • Too bad simple fact checking (something you guys are completely incapable of) shows none of that to be true. May I suggest and, or are facts too much for you to bear?

      • Conservatives love to dismiss facts on the ground that the facts are coming from a source that may have left-wing tendencies.

      • Snoops leans left…sorry you’re wrong if you’re using snoops as a fact checker- it’s a mom and pop org.

      • Suggesting Snopes and Factcheck for FACTS, James? Really?? We may have thought for a second you were at least semi-intelligent until that comment..

  2. I have ask all of the men an women of the armed forces an all Veterans. Come to Washington DC on April 16 2014. We March on Washington DC an both houses, and the Supreme Court, and the white house. All red blooded America’s come to Washington DC on April 16 2014. We take back are County are Constitution an the bill of rights. People this is a peaceful movement so please remember this people. Freedom is not free people you have to earn your freedom. So April 16 2014. We take back are County are freedom OK. God bless you and your familys and America. Amen

  3. Obummer probably doesn’t even know which end the round comes out of!! You should serve in the Military to be eligible to run for President!!

  4. One might be better to ask “Why does Obama think so little of the troops?” and therein would be the answer to the original question.

  5. This goes to a deeper issue conservatives have to face. it’s time to stop trying to debate the media. What Conservatives need to do is take it to the people. Like the healthcare debate which the media is parroting the white house talking points, Conservatives need to stop trying to convince the Main Stream media and go to the people. The same people that elected them and ask if it’s working for them. Did they get to keep their doctor? Has their premiums went up, or down? The battles for the votes will be won by going to people, not fighting with the Main Stream Media who have already sold out to the Liberal side.

  6. If obama is weary, it is vacation weary not war weary. I can see him now looking back on his time as the young son of a single mother, contemplating joining the service to better himself and thank the country of his birth for the wonderful freedoms it provides and….oh God….forget it. I can’t. Even as a fairy tale I just can’t pretend that he ever considered joining himself,or that he gives a damn about the people who do.

  7. The article is pretty good. Good points presented. But the answer is really very short and clear. The troops (most of them, anyway) recognize an enemy when they see one.

  8. Obama has NEVER had ANY administrative experience in his life. And he gets voted in as president by a majortiy of ‘low information’ voters. That is the equivalent of handing a 13 year old the keys to a Lamborghini….he is NOT a true leader

    • He got voted in because Republicans had nothing to offer. Try attacking the issues instead of the person and you’ll secure the White House for another 10 terms.

      • He got voted in because of his skin color. Pure and simple. Intelligence and experience does not mean a thing to the uneducated, ill informed, demorat.

      • He got voted in because the alternative included Sarah Palin as the VP!!! lol what did you think was going to happen?

  9. To be a good Lt, know your Sergeant (Sgt). To be a great Sergeant, you must know everything. Respect must be given first, before it is returned…they are still waiting. A good Sgt knows a good leader when he sees it. Obama isn’t it!

  10. All military leaders know that Obama is in WAY over his head. And has little of no respect FOR the military. You just CAN’T be a respected and successful commander & chief with all those thing going against you. And America is getting tired of his leading from behind “strategery”.

  11. As a current member of the Army, I’m disappointed that you didn’t capitalize “Soldiers”. From all of your days writing and reviewing NCOERS and OERs, it should be second nature.

  12. Guess who is likely in Diego Garcia? Has the pilots gone a-visiting? Pull up Philip Wood and see what is said he sent back from Diego Garcia. It is proved by the date and time stamp it was sent from Diego Garcia. What is going on? Searcch Flight 370 Philip Wood…

    • Checked your source basically BS. Too many inconsistent stories there. First one comes to mind an iphone battery will last 3 weeks.

  13. Hilarious coming from a guy who was forced out for misconduct (something to which your “friends” in your party used to to attack you with great effect). Sure, soldiers want to win but there has to be something to be gained. How long were we supposed to remain in an increasingly volatile situation in a region were the people don’t care for us to be there. In order to win, you need some goals. And need I remind you that the previous administration basically had none?

And simple fact checking shows that Republican senators are putting in provisions in their bills that lower and remove veteran benefits, but that never seems to get mentioned. Seems to me the right are the ones that play the blame game.

    • And what foreign policy goals does this administration have, besides losing? What has happened in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt under Obama’s watch. Pathetic leadership and foreign policy doesn’t begin to describe it.
LtCol. West has it right. He wasn’t afraid to make a hard call, put his ass on the line and not only did he turn himself in, he accepted responsibility for what you call “Misconduct”. “Asked if he would act differently under similar circumstances, West testified, “If it’s about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.” At his hearing, West said that there were no ambushes against American forces in Taji until he was relieved of his leadership post a month later.”

      • We should never have been in Iraq in the first place, so leaving was the right move. He wanted to send troops into Syria, but there was public backlash. He told Moahmar Ghadaffi to step down. When you look at the military disasters of the Bush Administration, what Obama has done really isn’t that bad.

  14. I for one firmly believe that a president of these united States before being even nominated for president should have spent at least three years in the Military in a leadership role ,,, and then he should be vetted thoroughly & vigorously, in the case of obama , well it was a huge fuqua ,,,,,

  15. I think Bush junior didn’t do any ‘trail humping’ or much of anything except draft dodging. Now, his Father was a different story! And, sorry, but Bush junior left this country in bad financial shape as well… Once again, his Father.. Different story.

    • didnt he fly jets in the national guard? anyway he did get us in 2 wars, and yes they were to defend the honor of the US, not for WMD or anything else, it was to teach the entire world if we are attack, we will attack back, it dont matter who but someone is going get messed up real good. Revenge is good, our enemies thought twice about attacking us when Bush was president, they laugh at obama. The only thing obama has done for the military is turned it gay, and is that a good thing?.

    • Most pilots don’t do a lot of ‘trail humping’. Not a big surprise that George W. would choose to be a pilot since his father was a pilot. My father was in the Air National Guard at the same time he was flying out of the same air base part of the time.. It didn’t stop him from providing back up support during Vietnam. Look at how many National Guard troops have deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, from all branches of the military.

  16. A professional and volunteer army fight for their country not their President. Soldiers go to the ballot like everyone else if they are not happy with their leadership. That concept of respect the author talks about is when you fight for the man and not the flag.

    • Having that concept of “RESPECT” does not mean you are fighting for that man. Those men and women in the Military, fight for their country every day and are still doing their jobs to the best of their ability despite how they may or may not feel about the current President. It helps moral though if they feel that their Commander in Chief is there for them.

  17. One third and 42% obama approval are scary high percentages considering it’s supposed to be coming from the military. I see young soldiers at Ft Campbell wearing obama t shirts. I want to grab them and shake some sense into them. Don’t they realize that obama HATES them? Wanted them to pay for their war injuries and rehabilitation? Cut their retirement benefits? There are so many anti military things obama has done I don’t have the time to list them all.

    • John Boehner was the one who voted to cute security at our embassies. He did this in April of 2012, just months before Benghazi.
Plus, REPUBLICANS are the ones who have voted to cut veterans benefits, NOT the Democrats.
Republicans are the ones who shut down the government, shutting down the VA.

      • The question of funding came up during the Hearing on October 10, 2012. The person representing the administration at that time stated that “MONEY WAS NOT AN ISSUE”. Watch the hearing.
By the way, Harry Reid and Obama refused to consider delaying Obamacare, so Reid shutdown all discussion on it, thus the shutdown. The media was really good at putting the blame on anyone but Obama, and the public bought it.
If you will check the record, Sequester was Obama’s idea. In fact, he insisted that it be put into the budget.
Research is a marvelous means of separating fact from fiction.

      • Because we all know liberals just love massing spending cuts right??? Because when the sequester occurred, the first people to come out and say that maybe it was a good thing were the Democrats, right?? Also, Republicans tied the shutdown to Obamacare, not the Democrats. They knew what would end up happening, but they did it anyway.
And about Boehner, I’m just saying it happened. That’s all.

      • I do so love my research of the actual documents. More people need to use the internet for more than flash games and porn! At no time in our history has more information been so readily available to more people and at the same time so few people willing to educate “themselves”!

I applaud you Sir for doing your own research! Only by informing ourselves and not listening to the slanted media on both sides of the issue can we truly wake up!

      • You’ve obviously not been paying attention. First the sequester was obama’s bright idea. Secondly, even when the house offered to fund EVERYTHING except obamacare and delay it. obama and reid were the ones who stubbornly dug in. obama by whining to the press and reid who refused to vote on it.

The ONLY people that think the GOP is responsible for the shut down are those that are not only not paying attention, they’re parroting whatever MSNBC tells them.

Lenin had a term for people like this: “Useful idiots”. Here’s your sign.

      • After voting on countless different occasions to repeal Obamcare, holding the rest of the government hostage over the law was the next creative trick up the sleeve of the GOP. It was a desperation move. They were willing to shut down the government over a law, and the Democrats didn’t go for it. You can call that stubborn as much as you want, but the fact that Republicans were willing to stoop that low is pathetic and immoral. Both of us are using the same facts here, we’re just spinning it in two ways. Regardless of that spin, at the end of the day, it was the Republicans whose idea it was to use the government shutdown as a political tool to repeal Obamacare, and that’s an undisputed fact.

  18. It saddens me to see what has happened to the military. Blind political ambition has been the order of the day in which those that are doing the actual fighting and dying are the first to be placed on the chopping block. I remember when Regan gave the military our biggest raise and it was an amazing feeling, now the simple Cost of Living Allowance doesn’t even help keep up with inflation. While I am in Grad school I’m living solely off my military retirement, OMG this is THE hardest thing I’ve ever had to endure. Now we’re looking at cuts that make me feel that my sacrifice defending this country for 20 years of my life was a waste of time. I’m sad because I really hate that feeling.

  19. if we need to cutback on things how about bloated overdesigned (and poorly designed) pork ridden projects like the LCS or F35 instead?. The LCS or little crappy ship is an undergunned toy compared to our other warships like the Arleigh Burke class.. The F35 isnt as bad but is still hampered by trying to be 5-6 different planes at once for 5 or 6 different customers – you cant even see behind you when you sit in it due to the lift fan intake being there – even if the lift fan intake isnt there on the standard takeoff and landing air force version!!.

  20. Bush was just as bad as Obama is. He’s a neocon warhawk who started unnecessary wars that cost us trillions if dollars and thousands of lives lost.

    • Bush didn’t start the Iraq and Afghan wars by himself. He did something Obama didn’t do in Libya. He sought out and got congressional approval. I know, I know. The same old whiny things you liberal minded people say. “He lied to us to go into Iraq”. No, Obama lies to us about EVERYTHING. Sorry to inform you, but the intelligence Bush got about WMD’s was spot on no matter what you’ve been told by your liberal media. “But they found no WMD’s”. Of course not! By the time the U.N. got off it’s ass and did something about the 13 warning it gave Hussein….he sold them to Syria and even Russia to try to find his defense. As far as Afghanistan goes, what do you suggest we should have done about a country that was hiding the head terrorist that slaughtered thousands of innocent Americans? Do all of us a favor and just go away. Bush as bad as Obama. Bush was not a perfect leader. No such thing. But there are two things he had that Obama has NEVER had. Balls and love of country.

      • The Bush Administration sold the Iraq War to Congress and the American people, and their talking points were absurd lies that the intelligence community didn’t even believe, and had already refuted. Anything they could come up with following 9/11 that would somehow tie Iraq to terrorism, they did it. They did it because they had not only a need for oil, but a vendetta against Saddam Hussein. It’s a proven fact that a well-known terrorist did not meet with Iraqi intelligence officials, yet it was sold to the American people as fact. It is a known fact that Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden hated each other, yet the Bush Administration said they were somehow working together. It is a known fact that the Iraqi who said Iraq had nuclear weapons capabilities hated Hussein and was desperate to get him out of office, and despite the fact he had no credibility, it was taken out of context by the Bush Administration and sold to the American people. The longer you hang on to your ignorance of what actually happened, the more likely it will be that something like it will happen again.

      • All of the members of Congress saw the same intelligence reports that Bush did, therefore they voted for the war. The Democrats can lie all they want to now, but I was smart enough to keep records of their remarks and votes. Lying and a short memory seems to be a problem they have.
Isn’t it amazing how history can be distorted to fit a political belief? There is an old saying, “if a lie is repeated enough, it will become the truth”. Just watch the evening news and many examples can be seen.

      • False. They, much like the American people, saw what was presented to them by the Bush Administration. If that had not been the case, blatant untruths would have never been used in the argument for the Iraq War, as Congress would have seen right through it.

      • There is an old saying – “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” even if he is NOT really your friend. The notion that Saddam and Osama would supposedly NEVER work together [against perceived common enemies America and the West] because of their supposed personal hatred for one another is WAY overstated.

Look at recent history. The Nazis and the Communists supposedly were mortal arch enemies, each supposedly dedicated to the eradication of the other – but that DID NOT PREVENT the two totalitarian thug ideologies from teaming up as de facto allies for the crucial first 22 months of WWII – Hitler had Stalin’s assurances that he would not oppose the German invasion of Poland and the two dictators (who never actually met personally but who communicated through German foreign minister Joachim Von Ribbentrop) even agreed to carve it up, with Russia invading from the East to finish the Poles off, and they agreed on separate spheres of influence elsewhere in Eastern Europe. They cooperated in many other ways over the next 22 months (the Gestapo and the NKVD exchanged information, and Stalin used his control of Communist parties in the U.S. and Britain (and various media, labor unions and other organizations they controlled) to publicly agitate against and secretly (via defense factory sabotage) try to undermine the de facto Anglo-American alliance that existed before Pearl Harbor.

Hitler was a supposed Aryan white supremacist who despised other “inferior” races – but yet he made common cause with the Oriental Japanese after their attack on America, a country largely controlled and run (in those days) by white people from the same Northern European stock he claimed to champion, just like Britain. Hitler hated the Jews, a Semitic people – but yet accepted Palestinian Arab Muslims, – Semites like the Jews and claiming to trace their own lineage back to Abraham, as the Jews do – as friends and allies in his efforts to conquer the Middle East and impose a Final Solution there (the Palestinian leader known as the Grand Mufti spent the war years in Berlin as Hitler’s guest, made Arab-language propaganda broadcasts against the British and the Jews for the Nazis and recruited Muslims into a special Waffen SS division).

So war and politics often make for strange bedfellows. Saddam himself even dispersed much of his air force to neighboring Iran – a hated enemy just a few years before – in order to keep it intact during the Gulf War of the early 1990s.

So the notion that Saddam and Osama (through representatives) might pragmatically and temporarily put aside whatever Islamic doctrinal differences they might have had to work against perceived common enemies – America, Israel, the West and the non-Islamic world generally — is NOT so far-fetched or unthinkable AT ALL.

      • First off, let me just say that I have a great deal of respect for the argument you just made and I appreciate you putting forth a well-structured argument that make a case in a logical fashion. It’s a little rare on this website. However, that being said, the important distinction to be made is their objectives, and evidence to back up any foreseeable actions.
For instance, there was a report alleging that a terrorist closely tied to 9/11 had met with Iraqi intelligence officials. If you look at the picture from which the allegations arose, you or I (regular people with no presumable backround intelligence) could easily tell that it wasn’t the same person. The intelligence community knew it too, and they even told Bush this, yet the Bush Administration blatantly ignored what they said and they ran with the talking point that a known terrorist had met with Iraq officials.
This is aside from the fact that Iraq did not have the military that Nazi Germany did, and there was no logical reason (based off Husseins political objectives) for Iraq to want to invade the US. Plus, there is no way the religious divide and associated political disagreements between the two groups would have been so easily abridged. I understand what you’re saying, but in context, it wasn’t the case.

      • Just like Obamy ‘sold’ his healthcare plan you mean? Yeah… that’s working out great huh?

  21. FACE9193.. and you know this because you are in front of the TV and watch the news.. Why aren’t you PART of the news instead of running your mouth abut it.

  22. This is a piece of right wing propaganda. GWBush was a draft dodger, who never fulfilled his obligation to the Texas National guard. He NEVER served in a warzone, barely served in the guard.

    • What a load of crap.

Bush served his entire Guard tour honorably. When he joined, he joined a unit which had half its pilots deployed to Vietnam. Bush himself volunteered to go to Vietnam but his request was denied by his commanding officer.

Bush’s unit was domestically tasked to NORAD for air defense of the United States and always had two fighter aircraft on the runway fueled and armed. Bush served in that pilot rotation. This is the reason Bush’s request to fight in Vietnam was declined; his mission in support of NORAD was considered to be a critical domestic post.

The documents that stated he didn’t properly serve his Guard commitment were proven fake and were the reason Dan Rather was canned by CBS.

      • It is ironic that some of those who brayed most loudly about Bush being a supposed “draft dodger” hiding out in the National Guard or a supposed coward (despite the fact that he pursued a pretty dangerous military occupational specialty in being a fighter pilot – NO flight of any aircraft is absolutely “routine” and there is ALWAYS a chance when a pilot goes up that something might go wrong and the pilot not make it back in one piece) had been enthusiastic supporters of Bill Clinton, who got a coveted ROTC position to protect him from the draft during the Vietnam War due to political influence (he had been an intern for Senator Fulbright and his wealthy businessman uncle in Little Rock, Raymond Clinton, a friend of the Senator’s, had pulled strings for him with the local draft board) and then weaseled out of actually serving his commitment by writing to Colonel Holmes, the head of the program, begging to be released, saying that he would make a poor soldier because “I (Bill) loathe the U.S. military.”

Many of the Bush-haters who ate up the “Bush was a draft-dodger” tale were also big fans of the late Senator Ted Kennedy, who lost his student deferment when he got kicked out of Harvard for cheating in 1951, joined the Army – but never even got CLOSE to being sent to Korea when his wealthy, well-connected former ambassador daddy Joseph P. Kennedy, a big Democrat party donor, and his older brother JFK, a congressman, soon-to-be-Senator and future President, pulled strings for him at the White House and the Pentagon to get him a coveted cushy assignment in Paris.

      • You are missing the whole point of the article. It doesn’t matter what YOU think of Pres. Bush’s military service, as a retired Army soldier who served under Bush and Obama, I know we respected Pres. Bush as a leader who cared about us and our missions. Pres. Obama only gets the respect required of the POTUS and not one iota more. Obama sees the military as nothing more than a political toy to be trotted out for a good dog and pony show, and than to be put into the back yard as not to annoy the neighbors.

      • Joe, the current White House occupant barely is due any respect; he disgraces the position and the office…feet on the desk, “working” in sweats, he disgraces the desk he sits behind. It is hard to even refer to him as potus…he is a vile evil person who thinks he is a rock star not The President.

      • I don’t disagree with you at all on that one Scott, I was speaking only of the respect the military is required to show by regulations. He definitely doesn’t deserve any respect due to his “accomplishments” while in office. And no serving member of the Army or Marine Corps is going to be happy with a commander in chief who is busy gutting their branch of service.

      • Neither are we Vets, while we are his favorite photo op…we are getting the biggest shaft.

      • I would say that it’s not “respect’ that the military is required to show, but rather “courtesy”.

I can be ordered to be courteous to a man I dislike. I cannot be ordered to respect him.

      • No one is talking about “the Kennedys” as a group. Jack was a war hero with PT 109, everyone knows that, and his older brother Joe Jr., a flier, was killed in action during WWII. Bobby was in the Navy in WWII and yes, Ted was in the Army in the early 1950s. No one denies that or says they did not serve. All four of the brothers DID serve. I brought up Ted’s service to illustrate the point that while many (not necessarily all) liberals who did not like Bush Jr. asserted that he supposedly dodged the draft during Vietnam by “hiding out” in the National Guard [some versions of the tale allege that his wealthy and influential family pulled strings to get him into the Guard] and thus never went to Vietnam, they would never dream of criticizing Ted Kennedy – who similarly came from a rich, well-connected family (even richer and better-connected, actually, than the Bushes), who joined the service during a hot shooting war in far-off Asia but somehow NEVER got sent to fight in Korea but instead received a coveted plum assignment, to Paris (rather, say, pulling guard duty at some remote base in Alaska).

      • I am saying the obama never served my country in any way. He has never ran a business. And as a community leader in Chicago he failed those communities. How are those Chicagons doing now?

      • He was a well-connected party boy who failed to take his required flight physicals and chose to do campaign work for his dad’s cronies rather fulfill his Guard duties. He was elected due money, connections and his appeal to the “religious right”. He was a disaster as POTUS and our nationwide memories of his 2 terms will make it very difficult for any Repub to win the White House. WATCH AND SEE!

      • As a member of the “religious right”, I am amazed by the stupidity shown in your remarks. You seem to forget that the Democrats were the majority in both houses of Congress the last two years of Bush’s presidency. When he tried to stop Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae from buying anymore BAD mortgages, the Democrats laughed at him and assured Americans that everything was fine. Guess how that turned out?
Obama has been in office for FIVE YEARS, so when will the braindead of this country stop blaming Bush? Obama owns the misery we are experiencing now, and no one else.

      • Like I said, WATCH AND SEE! You will have at least four more years of misery and complaining after the 2016 election, unless you Rightsters can come up with a viable candidate,,,any ideas who that might be?

      • With God’s help, sure in the hell will not be a Democrat, this time around. “Our Country” is fed up with being taken down.

      • Karen, You don’t listen well do you? Typical of your personality type. You were just properly corrected and still repeat the Dan Rather lies. You probably won’t acknowledge (fact) that Hillary Clinton was fired from her post involving Watergate for unethical actions by her. Check those facts about another one of your heroes. The difference is that those are real.

      • Patriot, you do not know me or my personality, don’t presume that you do. Clearly YOU are not as smart as you think you are.

    • and just what has the current White House occupant done? He has ZERO achievements, oh yeah he bamboozled the low information voters into electing him twice thanks to easing disability requirements, easing sec 8 housing requirements, literally handing out food stamps, cell phones…There is no record of him having written for the Harvard Law Review even though he claims to have been editor, his accomplishments at Columbia are getting high and hanging out with liberal progressives of his day–he admits it, his voting record in the IL Senate is almost non-existent; just like in the US Senate…

The troops and Vets save for the small number of liberal progressive minorities hate him. He does nothing but use the troops as a photo-op, cuts Vets benefits, reduces Tri-Care for the troops families, reduces access of families to military facilities, is gutting the military to pay for more social justice programs and failied green energy.

Of course you would jump on the Bush bashing bandwagon; its what “artists” and their liberal progressive ilk do. Just like you would find the Buck/Duck Commander gang to be dull and boring, they actually live life and have fun doing; not sit around coffee shops pondering what living is.

Have a nice day now…buh bye

      • Scott, you have just stooped to personal attacks when we were discussing politics. Are you a teen by any chance?

      • nice deflect and diversion there Karen…calling someone a liberal progressive and pointing out their lacking position is a personal attack; sounds like an apt description to me. Its okay for your attacks of the former President; got it now. I didn’t see any talk of politics in your reply..just an attack of GWB’s service; I must have missed it.

You have nice day now Karen, I have spent enough time with you…and as an fyi; my teen days are decades past…sadly your ability to have a debate hasn’t left your youth

      • It’s true . Us troops prefer Bush…it’s ok Karen be in denial but you heard it from the horse’s mouth this time.

      • also i find it funny karen finds being called a liberal progressive a personal attack lol…. Lots of articulate thought put together. by a “progressive” mind

      • All the crap put out about Bush’s military service was false propaganda by a favorite liberal reporter who was caught for fabricating the lies intentionally. However, the liberal media has continued to allow perpetuation of the false accusations so idiots like you can keep trying to use them. Get your facts straight. Use valid facts because there is a lot of crap out there.

      • Scott, do you really believe GW Bush served us well? No insult intended, but I just don’t see it. He left us in a mess. There were more than 5,000 American deaths in Iraq, and no one knows how many Iraqi civilians died, Some estimate >600,000. All over a war started with spin and lies. And the economy crashed under GWB’s watch. I don’t want to be rude to you, but those 8 years were terrible…AND the Repubs have LOST the last 2 elections, mainly, I believe, because many Americans can’t forget those Bush years.

      • when he was being a Commander in Chief..yes I do…when he started being PC…auto bailout, talk of amnesty for ILLEGAL ALIENS, no child left behind; he became an epic failure–RINOs never do well…His PC actions led to Fallujah 2…we avoided “places of worship”, schools, hospitals, etc when they were used for caching jihaids and gear..the numbers of “Iraqis” killed is not material, really could care less…had we fought to win and not protect mosques, historic sites, etc…the death toll of our troops would have been less.

The economy was already going downhill…the tech bubble burst the last year of Clinton, the failures banks being forced to give home loans to unqualified individuals tanked the housing market–that started under Carter and was forced by Clinton–everyone should own a home, the crash of the market due to uncertainty after 9/11 did not help, Katrina was an abortion on all accounts–the gov of LA and NOLAs mayor deserve more credit for the disaster than the media gives them as does past corrupt politics of LA/NOLA…sorry Karen it was not all Bushes fault…he let the media and the desire to be liked take over.

I am no great fan of GWB’s RINO-ism…but one thing he did/does do is like/respect/care for the troops/Vets. To this day he greets them at Houston Intl, participates in countless Vet outreach programs…and with little fanfare; I know this being from buds who have been there and organizations I work with. The current occupant of The White House holds the Vets and troops in the same vain as horse s***.

      • How do you know how Obama feels? It seems to me, being mom to 2 boys and grandma to 1, that sending soldiers to die in Iraq was not exactly, liking, caring, or respecting the troops. Esp now that we know there were No weapons of mass destruction.

      • Being a mother of 6 boys, 2 in service now. I am more then proud. I hope their younger brothers follow in their footsteps. GOD bless America and the soldiers that fight over seas to keep it from our front doors.

      • Rachel, Thank you for your boys and their service to our country. My son served in the Navy during the first Gulf War, so proud of him. I want our leaders to consider carefully before they sacrifice our sons lives.

      • My sons father was in the gulf war and if old man Bush took care of business then I don’t think we would have the issues with the middle east we have today. We are fighting over there because we know they want to bring it here. Obama is telling them come on over. So when our children are hearing bombs in their homes. Say thank to obama for welcoming our enemies into the USA.

      • you have your views and as a professional soldier, cop and now Veteran I have mine. From his actions and looks the current White House occupant only cares about the photo op with the troops/Vets…nothing more. Being a mother has nothing to do with respecting the troops; its a sympathy diversion ploy…just like the “no WMD was found” is old…odds are better than average that is what Assad used on his subjects in Syria. You have a nice life now, good bye.

      • Scott, being a mother has everything to do with respecting the troops. It may be the foundation of supporting the troops because they are our children and we care about them and what happens to them.

      • You forgot that President Bush stood up for “Our Country” after we were attacked on our own soil on September 11, 2001.

  23. I like Rubin’s final recommendation:

“And finally, it is time to install a respected and capable secretary of defense with a competent national security team to exclude political hacks from national security decision-making and to become realistic about the state of the world.”

IF you choose not to run for president in 2016, Colonel (and A LOT of people who think you have the right stuff want to see you run), or if you do enter the primaries but don’t make it to the nomination, and IF whoever the eventual GOP candidate is wins in November, I hope that he/she is smart enough to utilize your talents, training and extensive real-life military experience as a career military officer and much-decorated war hero by offering you the post of Secretary of Defense or National Security Advisor.

  24. Elections have consequences and you liberal libtards lost this one but the bigger ones coming in November. It must be hell to live in the George Bush era. You don’t even look at statics and what Obama has done to this once great country but that’s ok blame bush going on 6 years ago. Children have to eventually live up to responsibility but Barack don’t not with libtards.

    • I don’t blame Bush for 6 years of Obama limpness, he’s only responsible for the shithole he left.

The obstructionist GOP is mostly to blame. They’re the ones who can’t get anything done in the HOUSE and keep it locked up tight in the SENATE with secret filibusters.

If the Senate flips in 2014, it will only get worse, not better, and then y’all will be screaming about SECRET FILIBUSTERS IN THE SENATE and those darn sneaky libs.

      • “What difference does it make”? I’m not a sore loser, except for the fraud that keeps going on in elections and nothing being done about it. It’s about the problems we are having getting anything done, because of Harry Reid. He has hurt “Our Country” as much as Obama, but I doubt you will agree with that.

      • Would you like to make your “argument” stronger with details? Or just stick to parrot points? BRAAAACHHHH harry reid bad BRAAAAACHHH

      • It’s well known that Harry Reid does not allow votes on anything that is sent over. BRAAAACHHHH! 🙂

      • Since he apparently does it so often, I thought it might not be so difficult for you to post an example here. Then we could both be assured we are typing about the same thing.

      • How could we not be talking about the same thing, if it is about Harry Reid blocking votes? Kind of double sided isn’t it, when they bitch about Voter ID, but yet he will not even let the Elected Officials in the Senate have a say so.

      • I guess where I’m having the disonnect is, IS Harry Reid doing anything unusual? If so, where is the story or stories that would lend credo to that?

Of is he just using a Senate procedure every other majority leader before him has used?

      • Cool, should be easy to post a link, what with the extraordinary behavior. I’ll even take Fox or Glenn Beck or….?

Just one link that PROVES your “theory”

  25. “Caesar at home and, Chamberlain abroad” is who obama is. To censor our ‘christian’ troops is wrong. To force military commanders to either abide by his demands of openly gay soldiers or get out and, find another job – does not earn one respect.

  26. Wasn’t Bush that guy who didn’t actually win the election for his 1st term, but wound up in office anyway & then let 9/11 happen shortly thereafter ?

    • at least that is the liberal progressive Al Gore should have won line…but why waste a chance to bring up anything that in anyway is part of the blame Bush story line. Have a nice day, that was enough analysis of your witty retort.

    • The case of Voter Fraud the GOP never brings up.

They KNOW ALL ABOUT voter fraud… and how it’s done, and if they put in stupid ID laws, they know how to get around that too, but no one would be any wiser…. HOW COULD IT BE POSSIBLE? they would never ask… unless it were a DEMOCRATIC CONSPIRACY!!!

THEY see what THEY want to see and believe what THEY want to believe.

      • the fraud of the low information voters who did not know how to vote…goodbye troll boy, all of your comments are nothing but negative posts and add nothing but more liberal progressive propaganda aka bulls***

      • My parents taught be to honest and direct. Thanks for your bullshit too.

No info, just a lot of “feelings”

    • Clinton let the main person go that bombed the twin towers. Bush was only in office a few mos. when 9/11 happened. What would obammy or clinton do if they had a 9/11? The right president Bush was the best one to be office at the time. Bush won fair, no lies, no dishonesty as obammy does.

  27. ever hear of a deficit? the iraqi and afghani wars were about oil, political control and . pointless wastes of billions of dollars.. it’s about time we slow down defense spending, rebuild our own infrastructure and put america back to work.

  28. “Today Jennifer Rubin wrote an article in the Washington Post titled, “Why do the troops think so little of Obama?” I find it curious anyone even wonders why. Isn’t it obvious?”

Yes, to dislike Bush, they would finally have to admit they were duped into going to war to fight for oil, and that is the Cognitive Dissonance that makes this country great. I mean, look at modern “conservativism” lot’s of conflicting ideas.

    • Please enlighten us as to this “war for oil” with specifics. Further, if it was a war for oil, are you opposed to oil? What is your vision of future energy supply? Windmills?

Before the 2003 invasion, Iraq’s domestic oil industry was fully nationalized and closed to Western oil companies. A decade of war later, it is largely privatized and utterly dominated by foreign firms.

Sorry, we just get the pollution, we don’t actually get the oil. The big oil companies get the money and the politicians and the nation building and the “securing or US interests in the region” and we pay for it with our taxes.

I’m for nuclear aside from the obvious disposal problem. Wind AND solar AND geo thermal AND continue Hydro, but not likely build more AND of course TESLA FREE ENERGY. AND wave AND maybe even lightning, AND ….

      • ~~~
Oil was not the only goal of the Iraq War, but it was certainly the central one, as top U.S. military and political figures have attested to in the years following the invasion.

“Of course it’s about oil; we can’t really deny that,” said Gen. John Abizaid, former head of U.S. Central Command and Military Operations in Iraq, in 2007. Former Federal Reserve ChairmanAlan Greenspan agreed, writing in his memoir, “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil.” Then-Sen. and now Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the same in 2007: “People say we’re not fighting for oil. Of course we are.”

These outcomes were by design, the result of a decade of U.S. government and oil company pressure. In 1998,Kenneth Derr, then CEO of Chevron, said, “Iraq possesses huge reserves of oil and gas-reserves I’d love Chevron to have access to.” Today it does.

In 2000, Big Oil, including Exxon, Chevron, BP and Shell, spent more money to get fellow oilmen Bush and Cheney into office than they had spent on any previous election. Just over a week into Bush’s first term, their efforts paid off when the National Energy Policy Development Group, chaired by Cheney, was formed, bringing the administration and the oil companies together to plot our collective energy future. In March, the task force reviewed lists and maps outlining Iraq’s entire oil productive capacity.
Planning for a military invasion was soon under way. Bush’s first Treasury secretary, Paul O’Neill, said in 2004, “Already by February (2001), the talk was mostly about logistics. Not the why (to invade Iraq), but the how and how quickly.”

      • I don’t get it? In terms of what? Going back to 2002 to stop Bush and Cheney from invading IRAQ…

OH, he’s not the Anti Christ, he’s the TERMINATOR… I understand the confusion now.

  29. From the article

” By contrast, nearly two-thirds of them think Bush, who launched both wars, was a good commander in chief.”

Because they still have jobs? What does the polling of dead & injured soldiers say?

    • Most soldiers would say the same thing my Daddy said to me when I was a little girl and asked him why he had to leave. I made the choice to serve and I do it to “Protect My Country” and “Protect My Family”. Put it where the sun doesn’t shine

    • I should have revised this after I did some research and realized TROOPS, really meant VETS, not CURRENTLY SERVING… not a mistake of the Polling, a mistake of the Bloggng of Bloggers.

THIS v v v is what happens when you read past the headlines and research the links. Something lofo Conservatives are unwilling to do, apparently.

We don’t know why their view of Obama is comparatively so negative. Maybe they believe his budget choices reflect that they are a lower priority than, say, universal pre-school. Perhaps, they see in his rush to remove all troops from Iraq, and possibly adopt the “zero option” for Afghanistan as well, that he lacks the will the retain the benefits they sacrificed to win. It could be that his wishy-washy approach to Syria or his unwillingness to deter aggressors like Vladimir Putin concerns them and makes the potential for hostilities even greater. Or it could be that, like my colleague Jackson Diehl, they understand that the president via his secretary of state “thanks to a profound misreading of the realities on the ground — was enabling the bad guys.”

Wow, she makes the troop seem like a bunch of whiny ass sychophantic welfare queens, AND limp dicked conservatives at the same time. Fabulous reporter… forgive me… SPECULATOR…

She’s only commenting on ONE POLL though, not all of them.

“eye-popping nugget of data … The Post’s poll of members of the armed services who went to Iraq or Afghanistan has quite a few, but I will focus on one.” Yes, I can feel the bug eyes here already.

“…members of the armed services who WENT to Iraq or Afghanistan…” VETS

And what is the name of THIS Blog Post again?
“Why do the troops think so little of Obama?”

    Troops is used 8 times.
    VET – Once
    Veterans – Once

Troops, not vets, don’t get confused….

Washington Post – Article quoting ANOTHER ARTICLE about a POLL, still no poll.

YOU SHOULD READ THAT ARTICLE ^ ^ ^ ^ Heartbreaking really.

“After the Wars – Post-Kaiser survey of Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans”

OOPS, turns out they’re not CURRENT SOLDIERS they’re VETS.

“Blame Bush: Why Obama gets so little respect from the troops” < TROOPS…. you still mean …. VETS, right?

Way to mislead Allen B West.

    My favorite poll questions

Q: Did either of your parents or any of your grandparents serve in the military, or not?
    71% YES

Q: Generally speaking, do you usually think of yourself as a?

    Republican 27%
    Democrat 17%

Or as Republicans call it, 83%

Hey Lofos (kidding you didn't read this far before posting an insult) you need to do your research… You can't trust black people, ESPECIALLY if they're CONSERVATIVE… WHO DOES THAT?

    • Q: Which comes closer to your view: In these time of budget deficits, benefits for future generations of soldiers must be reduced or the military will become increasingly unaffordable OR Benefits for future generations of soldiers SHOULD NOT be reduced, even if this contributes to budget deficits?

Gosh, y’all are right, once these welfare queens suck off of the teat of government you can’t get em off. Free housing, free medical, free food, and now they want a RETIREMENT FOR NOT WORKING!!!! mooches.

      • Q: How would you rate the job the Veterans Administration is doing to meet the needs of military veterans? Is the VA doing an excellent, good, only fair or poor job?

        58% **NET Only fair/poor*
gosh who keeps quashing all those VA programs? (conservatives?)

        38% **NET Excellent/good**

      • Actually they want disability. They can walk in and it only takes about 15 mins to complete and then your out. That isn’t how the disability works and then to get on state of the Fed. government. Then you can get on S.S. and your on it for life. That is how obammy runs the government and his minions. I wonder what they are going to do when they run out of money. obammy and his minions can hand out the money they have taken from us.

      • Yes, because Obama invented the military… and the GOP is playing politics with their lives.

        GOP “loves” veterans.
        Go to war
Die a hero (because if you don’t, you’ll get nothing when you get back
Don’t ask for anything when you get back (because you won’t get it)
PHOTO OP? sure, how many props…. I mean VETS can we get in this one.

The GOP… die a hero, or shut your pie hole. Now go find the oil…. sorry, WMDs.

  32. God bless Col. Allen West. It is my contention that before one can become president he/she must have served in the military. Obama is not competent nor qualified to serve as commander in chief.

      • That is so very true and he wanted to get his own people in the many offices. The muslim and the Brotherhood is through out our government. He, obammy will send our troops overseas when the militia starts coming to every persons door for the guns, ammunition and food. Some will get shot and the service people don’t want to shoot the USA people.

      • They have infiltrated our government and I still have a hard time understanding why someone has not done something about this. I thought the Militia are our friends and its obamas DHS, etc., that will come after the people. I know it’s not all of our Military, but I wonder how many will shoot the people?

      • It won’t be our Militia, it will be the U.N./N.W.O., and obammy’s army. Our people will be sent over seas somewhere to keep the troops there, as they will not do what obammy wants them to do. That is why all of the higher up bosses were let go and obammy’s muslim brothehood were put into their places. It is a big mess and I hope that it doesn’t happen. MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA.

      • When you said the Militia was going to go door to door, it threw me off. Yes, who knows what his intentions are and it’s scary to think we have a President that will turn on the people. I do believe there are individuals in the Military that will fire on the “American People”.

      • I don’t believe they would agree to fire on civilians in the US. But the reason most all of them were let go was sexual misconduct . It was beyond infidelity.

      • Bill Clinton not only got away with HIS sexual misconduct while in office, but liberal women still love him in spite of it. Go figure.

    • It’s called “The Question”. “If when asked, would you fire on your fellow Americans?” Answer No and you will be booted out of the service, the higher-ups get pushed out on charges of excessive gambling, infidelity, etc. This is what the worst commander in chief has brought upon our military…

  33. I was lucky enough to meet 2 very great men one while I was
at 1stByn 5th Marines for radio school He was the Sargent
Major of the Marine Corps. He was a crusty ol Marine who at
that time had 39 1/2 years in the Corps but just His presence
garnered respect. The second was Retired Commandant of
the Marine Corps Gen Barrows when I was servicing His TV.
He and I began to talk He asked why I left the Corps I said that
I just got fed up with the way We were treated by the civilians
being spit at and called every vile thing that they could think of.
I asked Him the same Question His reply was if I remembered
what the Moral was like during the 70s I told him Yes there was
very little . He told Me that the Day Ronald W. Reagan was sworn
in it was like some one had gave every one of His Marines a big
shot of moral. He told Me He never wanted to see His Marines
with Moral that low again so He decided it was time to retire.

  34. I like this report. It says exactly what obammy is to the troops. He can’t even hold a candle to the troops. Bush could hold many candles to his troops and he stood for and with them. Way to go!!!!!

    • Pat you are so right, AT least Bush flew out to the troops for thanksgiving and had dinner with them in the middle of the war. These people think this coward fart would do that, fly out in the middle of the battle to be with the guys. This jackass terrorist doesn’t even give damn about the troops let alone to risk his black ass to be with them.

      • I hope you and your honey are fine and everything is o.k. I agree with you. Here we have another incident with Fort Hood. When obammy heard about it, it only gave a few words and hurried up and left for his campaign or dinner in Chicago. Bush would have come and met with the injured troops in his presidency. Take it easy.

      • Pat you are so right. Do you know that President Bush still keeps in touch with many of the troops from the last shooting that were wounded and goes jogging with many of the troop from Iraq and Afghanistan and he has been working on setting something up for the guys. That is just the kind of caring President that he was. This terrorist muslim moron doesn’t have any respect for our military, only the muslim pigs and their rights.

  35. Col. West, I have observed the public, patterned behaviors of individual and collective actors for some time. Having eliminated a number of theories and/or finding others incomplete (such as those presented by Dr. Robert Chandler in his book, “Shadow World”), I submit our enemies are positioning targeted regions of the world – including Israel and the U.S. – to meet parameters detailed in prophetic scripture. I further submit Moscow is the likely orchestrator. That is why, sir, our strong nation, as well as Western Europe, are being purposely weakened – culturally, spiritually, economically and militarily. In the event of WWIII, the enemy does not want to face a strong and united, allied front. Further, the enemy hopes that America and its allies, by our continued rebellion against moral truth, will lose God’s blessing and protection.

  36. Sir, as you likely know, a rare, celestial event – the four blood moons – is about to begin. These four blood moons are set to appear in April 2014, on Passover, and then again in September 2014 during the Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot. The timing is the same for 2015 — a total of four blood moons, all appearing on Jewish feast days. History shows similar celestial occurrences were accompanied by a significant event regarding Israel. I believe our enemies know this and are preparing for same. Col. West, I believe we are entering the era of the great battle. Though our troops are being pressured to denounce God, I recommend they pray with their friends and family, and prepare for a battle that transcends the mortal. Perhaps they might consider learning – and internalizing – the prayer to St. Michael.

    • Nothing will happen…Just as previous predictions of Biblical prophecy failed to occur. But go on believing just as you wish, Just don’t try to take the rest of us with you.

    • Interesting spin on the actual question The Washington post asked.

Which was “how much do you feel this applies to Obama as Commander in Chief”
Since they are asking only Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans Bush would get higher numbers since he started the wars.

How does one comprehend this as Bush has more Respect as Commander in Chief? It is actually who has more experience in starting wars.

  37. This is why you, Allen West, must run and win in 2016. This Country needs a real true leader, both at home and abroad. Many of us believe that man is you. We need a president that not only our military can respect but that leaders around the world can respect. We need a man in the Oval Office to respect rather just respecting the office. Hope you are considering to run in 2016.

  38. Get your facts straight Mr. West- Obama did not cut military benefits, CONGRESS did (and the list of those who voted for the cuts includes a lot of Republicans, including John McCain, who constantly sells himself as a friend to veterans even though his dismal record on veterans’ issues are easily accessible to anyone who looks). In fact, the president recently signed a bill that restores a lot of those cuts.
And your numbers (“one-third”, “42%”, “two-thirds”) are meaningless the way you have presented them. Of what? Based on what. Who was polled? When and how? Based on what I’ve seen on veterans’ sites those figures aren’t even close. but I’m not intellectually dishonest enough to present that as fact, as you apparently are.
