Surprise (not): Health insurance premiums up to 56% higher under Obamacare

I know y’all would probably like to see more videos of young liberals burning their Obama t-shirts, but we need to get back to the real world and relevant issues.

The clock is ticking on the enrollment period deadline for that scourge and lifelong objective of progressive socialists: Obamacare. In these final days we will be subjected to lots of Orwellian propaganda and marketing gimmicks from the Obama administration — who is paying for all this?

But we will do our best to reveal the truth. And it hurts. Bad.

Thanks to Paul Bedard of the Washington Examiner, “Americans buying health insurance outside of the new Obamacare exchanges (i.e. without a subsidy) are being forced to swallow premiums up to 56 percent higher than before the health law took effect because insurers have jumped the cost to cover all the added features of the new Affordable Care Act.”

Supposedly Obamacare has achieved an enrollment number of 5 million but then again we have no idea who has actually paid, or even how many are just MEDICAID signups. Do any of you believe this number stands up to scrutiny? If everything is going so very well, then why this astonishing marketing blitz — like the dumb “twerking” ad? How many are new signees? How many are part of the important young demographic which is the center of gravity for Obamacare’s success?

According to a cost report from eHealthInsurance, families are paying an average of $663 a month and singles $274 a month, far more than before Obamacare kicked in. What’s more, to save money, most buyers are choosing the lowest level of coverage, the so-called “bronze” plans. In California, some families are paying a high of $2,604 a month and in New York, $1,845.

As Bedard writes, the shocking surge in prices shows what Americans not eligible for subsidies or covered by their employer are paying as they seek lower premiums.

So in other words, Obamacare is indeed simply a wealth redistribution junket that punishes those hard-working middle-income families who are struggling as they watch their wages depressed due to Obamanomics.

Brian Mast, spokesman for eHealthInsurance said health insurance premiums are increasing “primarily because of the new required provisions for 2014 Affordable Care Act compliant plans, including guaranteed issue, essential health benefits, modified community rating and minimum actuarial values. It is also likely that health insurance companies expected additional risk in the risk pool, because people with pre-existing conditions could no longer be denied coverage, and may have priced their plans higher to accommodate for this risk.”

The bottom line is simple: we did need reform of our American healthcare system but we did not need Obamacare. Thirty-four waivers, exemptions and delays — and probably more coming — and the unintended consequences are too numerous to count.

  1. This is not about healthcare, this is about destroying the middle class and small business, by making people spend more that they can afford.
Ruin small business and you destroy the driving force of the economy. Put people out of work and they cannot afford insurance and depend on the government. barry wants bigger government and more people dependent upon the federal government.
This is also about control of every citizen through medical extortion.

example: Oh you need that life saving operation? then we expect a hefty donation to the democrat party. No donation your family member dies.

If you don’t think this is going to happen? Guess what they already do it with the IRS. They threaten 501c3’s everyday and have done so over the last 3 years

  2. It isn’t just the premiums going up – check out the new deductibles and copays. Check out what prescriptions, vision and dental coverage (if you still have it). My deductible went from $2,000 to $6,500, copays tripled, some drugs not covered now, and vision and dental coverages are minimal. I lost an excellent policy for a skimpier policy, but Obama saved me from that horrible policy I had (sarcasm!)

    • The jackazz in the White House is forcing us to pay for insurance we can’t afford to use. You think it’s intentional? You bet it is!

  3. If Obamacare is so great, why is our President going to such extremes to sell his product? Seems it would sell itself if it was all he claims it to be! Then we have the Liberal pundits who justify the good of the law because of those who now have insurance who once didn’t. Never mind the millions who lost their plans as a result of the ACA and the majority of us who are now paying higher premiums. I say this as someone who barely makes over minimum wage, Obamacare sucks, and the only thing it has done for this working poor individual is made her even poorer.

    • jaswim, you are absolutely correct in calling obamacare a…PRODUCT!
Americans should not be submitted to the tyranny of being forced to buy a PRODUCT! It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL! That jackazz living in our White House made himself a king and that too, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

      • Couldn’t agree more and I wish they would dethrone his Royal Majesty. Read today that next year we can expect premiums to skyrocket. So let me get this, I can now only work 30 hours at my $7.45 an hour job thanks to Obamacare, and I have to get insurance or pay a fine (and with my health I can’t really go without), my premiums on my COBRA insurance went up this year because they had to comply with the ACA, I checked out the ACA plans and let’s just say, “Unaffordable,” I live in a state that did not expand Medicaid because they would rather not go broke for Obama (can’t say that I blame them), and now because of this blunder I can expect my rates to skyrocket next year? Tell me, am I missing something, or has this plan hurt me, instead of helped? The next pundit I hear try to sell me on, “It’s Working,” I think I’m going to scream! What a bunch of BS lies!

  4. Our site explored a lot of these numbers and came to the conclusion that less than 2% of Americans are better off now than before this law came into effect. 5 million is hardly a number to brag about when there are over 315 million people total in this country!

Were trying to collect stories from those who have had a negative experience since Obamacare kicked in. We invite anyone that has a story and 5 minutes to share to help us tell the real story about the ACA

  5. You know this is a “LIE” to undermine the health care system that Democrats Refuse to become a member of but think every American should!! Hello America!!
