Those Christians from Chick-fil-A are at it again (giving away free food)

This week’s snowstorm in Alabama gave a chance for the folks at Chick-fil-A to once again demonstrate their values.

While motorists were stranded on Highway 280, restaurant owner Mark Meadows and his employees trudged through the snow and ice to hand out free chicken sandwiches to anyone they could reach.

According to Fox News,

some of the drivers had been stuck in their cars for nearly seven hours without any food or water. So the staff of the Chick-fil-A decided to lend a helping hand. “We cooked several hundred sandwiches and stood out on both sides of 280 and handed out the sandwiches to anyone we could get to – as long as we had food to give out,” an employee said.

Remember, this is the same Chick-fil-A the mayors of Boston and Chicago said didn’t share their values because the company supports Christian values and traditional marriage.

I grew up with Chick-fil-A – after all, they started in my home town of Atlanta. I can attest there is no organization that better reflects American values – and they make a serious chicken sandwich!

I’m 17 and gay and about to get married. I dont think the Chik-Fil-A people hate people like me. I know most people do not understand how I feel and I dont fully understand them. That’s no reason to hate someone. Up here in Canada, I think the Chik-Fil-A thing was overblown and exaggerated. Folks need to realise not everyone will agree with you.

Chik-Fil-A doesn’t hate you nor do any true Christians who actually find value in all God says. Yes we disagree with your lifestyle, but we don’t hate you. As Jesus said, hate the sin, love the sinner.

I posted this on my wall on FB – and the first thing that happened was an LBGT supporter started bashing them with comments like “They will give you free food unless you’re gay, right?”

This nearly sparked a huge “flame war” on my thread… Luckily I was able to persuade this particular supporter that his logic was “flawed”

Glenda LaHaye

Yes. They asked what everyone’s sexual orientation was before handing them a sandwich. I don’t know if the person who posted on your page is a friend of yours. They’re definitely not the brightest bulb in the box.

I’m sure someone will make a big deal about their kindness … I never hear the end of it .. Sadly …. 🙁 : But they did exactly what real Christian People do, the media constantly portrays us as being Racist, Homophobic, Judgmental, Mean Spirited etc. This completely False on the premises of a True Christian walking by Faith and Love. We don’t support Racism and most Christian’s don’t even believe in “Separate Races” considering it’s a Evolutionalized Theory and Sin that is absolutely Inaccurate and Biblically non-existent. In the south You have to deal with a lot of cornering, curves, hills, & banks. I know that many in the north think it’s hilarious but I don’t think that even they could handle roads like this when you consider most of their territory is flat & the roads are mainly strait.

Just as the local churches did nothing. Either way, I don’t see what your issue with the ACLU is, seeing as they have defended guns, and even the Christian right to free and peaceful assembly.

The problem with the ACLU is that they are so fragmented internally they will defend a persons rights one week & the next week they are doing everything they can to undermine them. What you just stated was my point. You cannot logically defend one group of peoples rights without stepping on another groups rights. This is the crux of our problems. Liberals, just don’t know how to run a business. That’s why they are so apposed to companies like Chick-fil-A. They would never have thought to do something like this, and will never understand that the motivating factor in this act by Chick-fil-A, was human kindness and caring, nothing else. Unless they removed any reference to Chik-Fil-A while they were doing it, this was nothing more than a publicity stunt designed to promote their business. Man oh man what an incredibly stupid comment. Once given the sandwich, anyone from around here would know it’s from Chik-Fil-A. In fact, that’s why they’re so popular—because their sandwiches are so damn good. Furthermore, I suppose it would have been better for them to distribute the food in gorilla suits and unmarked bags in order to help maintain anonymity. This was not a STUNT. It was real people wanting to help. The fact that this provides good publicity is certainly a bonus—-but do you really think Chik-Fil-A needed such a boost?? Come on, man.

Matthew 22:18-22, Jesus said to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.

Jesus was not a respecter of money or wealth.

After all, Jesus did tell the rich man, “One thing you lack: Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

That doesn’t sound like Tea Party Jesus.

To bad you have no idea what and why He said that….you cherry pick the Bible for you own purposes as a non believer.

Heisenberg

Cherry pick? I don’t think so. Read he gospels; Jesus had a lot to say about worldly wealth, and I don’t recall any of it being good.

If non-believers can’t examine the Bible, doesn’t that make your faith a bit circular?

You have to be a Christian to understand/believe the Bible.

Believing in the Bible is a requirement for being a Christian.

Actually I was an evangelical for 27 years, starting at age 18. I even put myself through Bible college. So, I actually do know quite a bit about the Bible.

He left it up to the rich man. He didn’t command Herod to occupy anyone. When leftists give to charity at anywhere near the amounts conservatives do, pigs will fly. HYPOCRITS

Matthew 19:24, Jesus said, ” Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

John 13:35

The Message (MSG)

34-35 “Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.”

Heisenberg

Love one another, and pick up a little coin while you’re at it, amirite? Because how many Christians will read the story and go to their local Chick-Fil-A to show their support?

That’s the American Christian way…

I didn’t say it was wrong. On the contrary, it was a very shrewd move to market their business.

I will. I have.. . . and what do yo know about the Christian way?

Lots.

Tim West

If you knew “lots” you would a believer. Im sorry you are not my friend. God loves you and holds out the free gift of Grace unto eternal life to all. This has nothing to do with right of left. Keep your eyes on Jerusalem the true “capital” of this world. You and all will one day see the King return and end the rule of fallen man be for man destroys himself.

I used to believe as you do… but the evidence is in. The Bible is largely fiction, and the Christian god is simply a mythological construct. All those “prophecies” of the end? They are about the destruction of Jerusalem, and the tensions between Palestine and Rome. There’s really nothing prophetic about them; they were written after the fact, with a bunch of acid-trippy imagery thrown in that was common for that sort of literature from the time period: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalyptic_literature But, Jesus’s alleged prophecy of his return has already gone bust: “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass… Read more »

So, they were supposed to have 200+ unmarked cases sitting around in a warehouse behind every restaurant, just to use in cases of emergencies, or just not do whatever they could do to help stranded people? You’re an idiot!

Heisenberg

So, you’re saying that Jesus’ words are idiotic?

Brown paper bags are not difficult to come by; every grocery store has them.

Charles Caswell

Not every grocery store. Irrelevant. How many Chick fil a have plain brown bags? Or any other fast food place.

Heisenberg

It was just an idea I was tossing out there. But this isn’t on me. If you want to be a true follower of Jesus, then you have to figure out how to anonymize your good works for yourself.

Dingus

So I suppose you would have turned down a sandwich if you were there and hungary? Well considering you are raising such a stink about the color of their bags I guess you just might. Funny thing is…they might just have given you one even if you said you didn’t believe in God as they were handing it to you.

Heisenberg

That wooshing sound over your head is my point.

Hell yeah I would have taken a free chicken sandwich, Chick-Fil-A logo or not.

But, was CFA doing this to be righteous, or to promote their business? Probably both, to be fair. But, Jesus commanded you guys not to promote yourselves through your good works, that’s all I’m saying.

I’m sure someone cold find some verses in the bible that support their generosity. Remember, they are still a business and must pay for everything including the employees time. Yes, they get some advertising. They chose to pay for advertising by feeding some hungry people rather than pay for advertising on more billboards. How many other businesses went out to help others? How many churches cooked up food to hand out? How much did you cook up and hand out?

CharlaS

Heisenberg, I think you are so caught up in the fundamentalism of the letter of the law that you would be willing to let people starve if ANYTHING about them didn’t meet your criteria in some shape, form or fashion. Getting out of the head and into the heart and offering blessings that SOMEONE, publicity stunt or not, ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING FOR PEOPLE IN NEED instead of sitting around thinking about reasons they SHOULDN’T do anything. Give thanks that people were fed. Maybe Jesus should have stood BEHIND a boat when he multiplied the fishes and loaves so no one… Read more »

Actually, I think it was a very shrewd move. Look at all the Christians who are proclaimed what a righteous work this was… and Chik-Fil-A’s sales will go up as a result.

Bob

This is a silly argument. I might agree with you Heisenberg, but they (CFA) are not the ones running this story. And if you say it was just a publicity move, where were the other restaurants? There are about 20 within a mile of that restaurant, and they were the only ones with this brilliant marketing strategy?

David Deering

Is there a problem with getting a little publicity benefit from doing something good? If it were only for the publicity, there were probably better return on investment strategies in other forms of advertising. Even if it was a case where publicity was a prime motivator (which I personally don’t believe), good still came from it. Do anti-Christians and anti-free-market people just find it impossible to see how good comes from both?

this conversation has spiraled into the political left vs. right when it should be about a company that lives it’s faith. FAITH in ACTION is always criticized by those who do nothing;.
Thank you Chik Fil A I’m sure the hungry people you fed could care less about
political arguments about free publicity.
