Facts? Who needs facts in the State of the Union?

So let me just come out and say it. I see Obama as a pathological liar. Hardly a surprise, considering he was awarded the “Lie of the Year” for 2013. Obama is definitely keeping Washington Post Fact Checker, Glenn Kessler, in business.

In fact, Kessler offered up these little morsels from last night.

“The more than eight million new jobs our businesses have created over the past four years.” Yes, about 8 million jobs have been gained since the lowest point in 2010 but the number of jobs is still about 1.2 million lower than when the recession began in December 2007 – before he too office.

I’m also amazed President Obama never addressed the real unemployment situation in America. He never mentioned all the Americans who have been forced to part-time employment, or simply no longer counted because they’ve stopped looking. We have the lowest workforce participation rate in 40 years.

“A manufacturing sector that’s adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s.” Not really. The number of manufacturing jobs is still 500,000 fewer than when Obama took office.

“Our deficits – cut by more than half.” The federal budget deficit has declined in half since 2009, from $1.3 trillion to about $600 billion.

But remember, President Bush’s final deficit in 2008 was $458 billion, and that was with a Democrat House and Senate. Obama’s deficit of $1.3 trillion hit a high water mark after the $800 billion “stimulus” and there were other deficit years over a trillion. So it must be convenient to explode the deficit and then due to sequester cuts and higher tax revenues take credit for the reduction.

“Inequality has deepened. Upward mobility has stalled.” Earlier this month, economists Raj Chetty, Emmanuel Saez and colleagues published a paper based on tens of millions of tax records showing the rate of upward mobility is essentially the same now as it was 20 years ago.

But hey, even if failed economic policies have deepened inequality, nothing is ever this guy’s fault.

“Today, women make up about half our workforce. But they still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. That is wrong, and in 2014, it’s an embarrassment.” There is clearly a wage gap, but differences in the life choices of men and women — such as women tending to leave the workforce when they have children — make it difficult to make simple comparisons.

I guess President Obama (and his speechwriters) enjoy watching Mad Men — but don’t they know it’s fiction?

“More than nine million Americans have signed up for private health insurance or Medicaid coverage.” Wait a minute – 6.3 million of that is Medicaid and not necessarily as a result of Obamacare, and the remaining 3 million for private insurance is pretty iffy too. People are counted as enrolled if they select a plan – but the federal exchange hasn’t built the part of the system to know if they’ve actually paid.

Sadly, he just can’t stop lying about his own signature achievement.

You have to wonder, when the president reviews the draft of the speech, does he review each statistic? Or do he and his speechwriters just figure it’s ok to put in a few whoppers and nobody will notice? I guess they’re right. After all, America reelected him.

    • I listened to the official response after the Pres ended and I saw one woman alone in front of the camera and she never raised her voice. So I’m curious about WTF your talking about..

      • Vlad’s response is so predictable when the facts are inconvenient and you feel you just must comment make something up. I someone calls you on it then go to insults and profanities. We’ll have to wait for that as he must have looked away.

      • My response was predictable because it’s the same impression you got. It was the Republican State Of Disunion.

      • I didn’t understand your original post nor do I understand your reply. I sat here the other night and watched the liar in chief followed by the Rep response. His oratory skills are intact even if his facts aren’t. The response was as predictable as the Pres speech. The country could do so much better if we could kick the liars from both parties to the curb and do business with the three or four who are left. But using your reference to children we take sides and no compromises are reached and the peoples business isn’t taken care of.. The only childish behavior I obvserved was from the so called journalist and their pundits.. But I don’t believe they were who you were referring to.

    • I truly wish you could prove that. I would like that to be true, but I believe we as a people are coming to an end, because we did vote him in . . . twice.

The best I could hope for is that it really was ignorance versus blind dependency, but I believe the latter is true. There is no real faith in God . . . government is god to those who vote for this President. And he can be cruel or kind – so be nice to him and be grateful when he throws a bone to you.

This is a far cry from where we began – it is not progress.

      • I didn’t vote or him,,,not twice and not once. But as far as voter fraud,,,each side that doesn’t win brings up voter’s fraud. Hate bringing Bush up but look what happened in his first election against Gore. The Libs screamed voters fraud.

      • Hey Vladd99,,You are right but allegations of fraud came out of Florida counties by the Democrats; Broward, Palm and Dade, but that was thrown out because Gore actually had won those counties. Then of course what you said happened after that. They started doing the recount and then the Supreme Court stopped it and declared Bush the winner. 🙂

      • Good point – I think that IF voter fraud could have ever been proved, that would have been the time it would have been done. However, perhaps (other than the Kennedy election in Chicago) this was the point at which real voter fraud began? Not that it was fraudulent itself, but that it provided such an in depth look at the process – all the flaws were exposed and people now know how to get away with it?

Just a thought – I hope enough of us are at the polls helping keep the ‘honesty’ there. Too many ‘stories’ about polling places where 110% of the voters registered voted for one person . . . but still no proof of fraud.

      • I’ve heard a lot about fraud being yelled at election time and really went out and started investigating it. In Chicago, not sure how many years back, they found some voters addresses were actually vacant lots. And a few dead rose to vote. Would that have been the Kennedy issue? Today when a vote is close,,,voter fraud comes up. There was a site I found that listed polling places where there was some fraud going on and what charges were brought against them.

      • Well, when more people vote for Obama than there are people in the county, I think that’s pretty conclusive that fraud is contributing. One woman was busted in Cincinnati for voting something like 6 times…by mail and then in person because she wanted to be sure her vote got counted, she voted for her daughter as well…and the Dems don’t want voter ID? Of course they don’t.

      • That’s why we need Voter ID’s, so no one votes twice and only citizens have the “privilege” of voting.

  1. This liar in chief needs to be impeached! Is there anyone in congress with the balls to take that on? On behalf of the Constitution-minded American people we are tired of our country being transformed . . . .

  2. So nice of Mr. West to agree with the President on 5/6 points, and on the remaining one quibble only that inequality is not worsening under the President’s administration. From the title of the article, I expected him to disagree with the President, but instead, he admits the numbers and conclusions are accurate. How civil of him.

    • Don’t you read what he’s saying? He said, there is NO WAY of being able to tell which of the 3 million PAID for their plan. Signing up is NOT proof that the plan was paid. It’s like putting it in your online shopping cart. It’ll sit there, but you don’t get it until it’s paid.
And the 6 million that signed up for medicaid. Well, that’s not going to help the insurance companies pay for us sick old people. They’re freaking out right now. And Obama is going to bail them out with billions of dollars to keep them from going under. Taxpayer dollars. You watch and see. He keeps throwing good money after bad. It’s unbelievable how this insane plan is NOT going to work and he doesn’t care how much he tosses in. It’s not his money.
As a nurse I do not want to deny ANYONE health care. But at this point it would have been much simpler to just put all the uninsured on medicaid and taken the extra millions/billions tossed on ObamaCare to the medicaid systems and then all the people that LOST THEIR INSURANCE would have been able to keep their plan. As promised. And keep their doctor. As promised.

    • I understood him to mean that the 6.3 on Medicaid were not all due to Obama. Many were already in the program. But what about the folks who have been FORCED onto Medicaid who do not want it? How’s that help them?

    • 6.3 million signed up for Medicaid and the 3 million have not shown any proof they’ve paid. You’re not covered until you pay the premium. The President forgot that little tid bit of information. You really need to fact check the President. In the last 5 years he has had a very miss representations (ie Lies).

    • I guess you don’t understand it. Women do make 77 cents on the dollar but like the General stated, it’s through choices they make. Side by side they make the same amount. But when you start out at entry level and need to work your way up the ladder (as we all have to pay our dues) women leave the work force, most times temporarily, to raise their children. Or perhaps go part-time. So they do not climb the ranks as fast as men who generally start climbing and do not stop. Period. And that’s why the woman’s pay is less. But it’s her choice. Not something as Obama claims is a problem.

      • Who cares!!! In a Utopian Society that wants to rule us all, they stir up division and divert our attention by discussing all these disparities, but we’re in a crisis situation in this country…….equal pay for women is no concern if there are no jobs and mouths to feed. The ship is going down – let’s not count if there are more women baling out the water or more men, or who is working harder. We’ll all drown if the ship sinks.

    • I had read it was more like .91 cents. The facts that men have a greater number of Union jobs and work more hours is also a factor. It isn’t nearly as cut and dried as some try to portray. Hold on, let me ask my boss what she thinks.

  3. “A manufacturing sector that’s adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s.” The number of manufacturing jobs is still fewer… Sir, do you realize that saying there are fewer now than five years ago in no way NEGATES the fact that manufacturers are now adding jobs for the first time since the ’90’s? You DO realize that you didn’t dispute his statistic at all, don’t you? How is this a “whopper”?

  4. “A manufacturing sector that’s adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s.” Not really. The number of manufacturing jobs is still 500,000 fewer than when Obama took office. Really Colonel are you even trying anymore? When did Obama take office? Gheeez

    • China and India have taken over whether you realize it or not. And they don’t have the rules and regulations for safety that we have here in the States. Which is why there are recalls. Take a look at Detroit, my home town, and you’ll see that manufacturing is WAY DOWN!!!

      • Hey, Lee Penrod, you’re the one to take a look at Detroit! It is a garbage heap, of course manufacturing is WAY DOWN (as you say). And you’re worried about Safety rules, I don’t think those who destroyed Detroit worried about safety rules! Get your head out of the sand.

  5. Come on, give Barry a break! He wasn’t aware of any of these things you speak of. It’s not his fault! He’s been really busy trying to master that new sand wedge. Do you have any idea how demanding golf can be? He just doesn’t have time for any of your silly distractions.

  6. The President made things in America sound a bit rosy and up-beat, but he was not telling the whole story about the facts he was touting. “8 million jobs created in the last four years”, sounds good, but it isn’t the whole story. The numbers are from all of the monthly jobs reports during the past four years, but what he did not tell the American public, was that many, if not most of those jobs were temporary or part-time, usually, low pay and not really the improvement that he was crowing about.

If you place a kernel of truth in a paragraph, it does not, necessarily, make the paragraph true. Leaving out facts that qualify the statement just to make your point more appealing, constitutes a lie by omission; the President used this technique throughout his State of the Union. So while one may not say he lied, one can say he did not represent all of his facts in a truthful manner.

If the President cannot be fully truthful while addressing the American public, is he to be trusted to act in our best interest?

    • I returned to college in my forties and graduated with honors right before Obama took office. I was able to finally find a low paying full time job after months of searching. Sadly in 2012 my 29 year marriage ended. My father had passed away recently and my mother needed my help so I moved back to my hometown to live with her. After a year of searching for employment I finally gave up and threw part-time employment into my options and amazingly my phone started ringing off the hook and I had a job within a month. I now have a low paying job that makes sure I don’t go past my 30 hours so that they don’t have to provide me with company insurance or pay a fine. On the positive side, I love my job and they like me and my work, so I hope within time I will eventually be moved into a full time position otherwise I will have to get a second part time job, which will probably put me at working 55-60 hours a week while caring for my mother and receiving no benefits from either employer. I’ve worked two jobs before, but today I’m in my early fifties, not in the best of health myself, and really not up to the task anymore of working that many hours. It is for reasons such as these and others that I could not even bring myself to watch the State of the Union or any of this man’s speeches anymore. To listen to him brag about his false accomplishments sends my blood pressure up. For all the finger pointing he has directed at former President Bush, I cannot imagine the damage control our next President is going to be handed. Of course, that is hoping he doesn’t destroy us as a nation before then.

  7. A complete list of lies the Liar in Chief has made to add a few to the whoppers told last night.

#1 “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.”

#2 “My administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government.”

#3 “We agree on reforms that will finally reduce the costs of health care. Families will save on their premiums…”

#4 “I don’t want to pit Red America against Blue America. I want to be the president
of the United States of America.”

#5 “We’ve got shovel-ready projects all across the country that governors and mayors are pleading to fund. And the minute we can get those investments to the state level, jobs are going to be created.”

#6 “And we will pursue the housing plan I’m outlining today. And through this plan, we will help between 7 and 9 million families restructure or refinance their mortgages so they can afford—avoid foreclosure.”

#7 “I will sign a universal health-care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.”

#8 “We reject the use of national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime.”

#9 “For people with insurance, the only impact of the health-care law is that their insurance is stronger, better, and more secure than it was before. Full stop. That’s it. They don’t have to worry about anything else.”

#10 “We will close the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, the location of so many of the worst constitutional abuses in recent years.”

#11 “Allow Americans to buy their medicines from other developed countries if the drugs are safe and prices are lower outside the U.S.”

#12 “We will revisit the Patriot Act and overturn unconstitutional executive decisions issued during the past eight years.”

#13 “Will ensure that federal contracts over $25,000 are competitively bid.”

#14 “We reject sweeping claims of ‘inherent’ presidential power.”

#15 “Will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This will eliminate taxes for 7 million seniors — saving them an average of $1,400 a year– and will also mean that 27 million seniors will not need to file an income tax return at all.”

#16 “We support constitutional protections and judicial oversight on any surveillance program involving Americans.”

#17 “If we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home, we will end this war. You can take that to the bank.”

#18 “Will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.”

#19 “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

#20 “We have a choice in this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division and conflict and cynicism…. That is one option.Or, at this moment, in this election, we can come together and say, ‘Not this time….’”

#21 “We’ve got to spend some money now to pull us out of this recession. But as soon as we’re out of this recession, we’ve got to get serious about starting to live within our means, instead of leaving debt for our children and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren.”

#22 “[T]oday I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay – and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.”

#23 “I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will execute the office of president of the United States faithfully, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States.

  8. It seems it’s the common practice for progressive democrats to bullchit their way. Even some republicans (McCain). What we lack is a leader that is not afraid of the truth, Even if it means he/she will be ridiculed because of it. At least we would know it is the truth. Money and corruption is all it is anymore. Sad

  9. This American didn’t vote for him either time.. I didn’t trust him in the beginning because nothing came out about him. There were too many questions and no answers given. To this day there are things they wont tell us about him, records sealed and the question about his birth certificate. I just wish America would wake up, its time to take our country back. We are losing it more every day to these Government thieves.

  10. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/01/28/if-we-want-more-income-equality-should-we-return-to-the-economy-of-george-w-bush/

That article puts the lie to bed. GW Bush seems to have had the best policies of “improving income equality”. The “problem”? The worst were Reagan and Clinton, who presided over booming economies.

So, equality or booming economy? Regrettably, the jaxckasses would chose to pull everyone down, rather than have some succeed.

Their mascot shouldn’t be the jackass, as apt as it may be, but the crab, never let anyone out of the bucket.

  11. I’m desperately trying to keep a roof (with rents climbing beyond the ceiling, and lying landlords with who split apartments ‘illegally’ and cause other dangers for their tentants)over the heads of my nephew with Aspergers who barely makes anything from his college work study, a brother who’s mentally challenged and works for the ‘federal government’ but only brings home $292 (every two weeks), and a nephew who makes *$11,000 a year* (and looking for employment in your ’50’s is NO joke, but that doesn’t seem to matter either with all the constant lies and hypocrisy, that continues on at La Casa Blanca) while these folks are patting themselves on the back and continuing on with their horrific lies. The folks who put this j***r back in office should be ashamed of themselves. I’m so sick and tired of all of this and it just isn’t getting any better.

  12. In the many years as a hard working small business owner’s wife, who spent hours & hours trying to meet a payroll, pay bills, please & retain customers, deal with all the problems that arise each day, and then raise 6 kids, We have never once taken a government handout. We have paid all our taxes, watching them increase year after year, and paid off loans taken to pay for equipment needed to run our business, and paid our employees before any pay was taken for ourselves as business owners. Who the Hell does this idiot Obama think he is talking to.. ! This pot smoking street walker never once had to try to make payroll or pay bills with not enough money, call people for delinquent debts, or worked plenty of extra hours late at night and weekends because we didn’t have enough money for overtime pay for employees. This man and those who set him up as a front man are nothing but criminals and should be booted out of the presidency(and also deported) so we don’t have to listen to his lies, threats, and rants anymore. I’m sick of him; I’m sick of these fools destroying this country, and I WANT HIM OUT OF HERE NOW! I WANT AMERICA BACK!

  13. I was backed into a corner and had to go to the healthcare exchange for my 1 year old healthy son, putting him in a plan that cost $490 a month was way to much for us to afford and since he only visits his doctor twice a year it was better for us just to pay the doctor in full out of pocket. So I am one that you can remove from his( Obama’s ) botched numbers and I am sure there are 100’s of thousands if not millions just like our family that just cant afford his “affordable” insurance.

  14. catch a clue people…politicians lie…BIG TIME. they lie to get elected, and about any number of policies when they’re in office. so yeah, o’bummer is a liar. big deal. bush lied us into a war in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed. i repeat, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WERE KILLED, and that’s all attributable to one president giving the simple order to go to war.

when will you people learn–you empower them and they disappoint. they sing their songs on the campaign trail, ‘i’m for traditional family values’ or ‘i’m for tolerance and diversity’ and come the morning after election day, you wake up and have to deal with 4 or 8 more years of disappointment. it is a waste of time to follow politics, and downright damaging to spend too much time being invested in the outcome.

…and if you didn’t like the last two presidents, wait until the next two!
