Is tide turning? Liberal writer supports Obama impeachment

In recent fundraising efforts, Democrats have invoked the “I” word – the threat of impeachment — to try and rally liberal progressives as we approach the key 2014 mid-term elections.

Democrats are working hard to portray this as a full speed effort of conservatives. But it’s not just those center-right who are concerned with President Obama’s executive overreach.

In an interview with World Net Daily, famed Village Voice journalist Nat Hentoff called Obama “the most dangerous and destructive president ever” and “the worst state…the country has ever been in.”

Hentoff is particularly incensed by Obama’s egregious use of executive orders, especially considering his most recent comments at a cabinet meeting regarding having a pen and a phone. “He has no right to do these executive orders,” Hentoff insists.

Why does Obama get away with it? Hentoff says there is no outrage in Congress, no coverage by the media and no knowledge by the public.

“He’s in a position now where he figures he’s going to do whatever he wants to do.” In fact, Hentoff said, Obama doesn’t even pretend to care about the separation of powers between the executive branch and Congress anymore, because “He’s the boss and hardly anybody cares enough” to stop him.

Separately, in a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, two constitutional law professors told Congress the president exceeded his authority when he unilaterally extended the deadline for enforcement of the employer mandate in the Affordable Care Act, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis and the question Americans have to ask is whether or not their elected representatives will take any action.

The most well-known examples of Obama changing or issuing laws with the stroke of a pen by issuing executive orders include:

  • > Delaying the employer mandate in Obamacare
  • > Changing the types of plans available under Obamacare
  • > Ensuring abortions would be covered under Obamacare
  • > Enacting key provisions of the failed Dream Act to halt deportations of illegal immigrants
  • > Enacting stricter gun-control measures
  • > Sealing presidential records
  • > Creating an economic council
  • > Creating a domestic policy council
  • > Changing pay grades

“Never before in our history had a president done these things,” Hentoff mused. He is baffled that Obama should escape such scrutiny when former President Bill Clinton faced impeachment just for being “a lousy liar.”

As I mentioned earlier this week, it will be interesting to hear what the focus of President Obama’s State of the Union address will be.

I no longer believe this is a matter of incompetence. This presidency is intentional and purposeful in truly fundamentally transforming America. And it’s terrifying.

They voted for him. First they need to apologize to the country. Then they need to get behind the people in the House (where the outrage has been) and the Senate (the Republicans have been screaming loudly about it all) and help them get out the information to the low-info voter. As long as the LSM protects Obama at all costs, it will take a ground swell outside of the media to get the word out.

You ever TRIED to explain to a “low-info” voter what’s going on? I have. I don’t keep my mouth shut. They just don’t want to hear it. Worse, some do hear you and they refuse believe the obvious. They have an argument for everything Obamanation does. Then they label you as prejudiced against blacks. They are like loyal fans of some football team. Their pride won’t let them see what is right in front of their faces because they voted for him. He’s their team leader, and they’re stickin’ to him. How do you “reign in” a completely biased MSM without damaging free speech? If this question can be answered and applied equally across our Countries, it would go along ways towards a more educated and informed society. If only the answer were as easy as the question….:) 1) Every network should have to legally disclose every cent of monies received from 100% of contributors/sponsors and name them with phone number and address. 2)I personally believe that we all need to just “turn it off” and that includes the sponsors. Very well put. I don’t know why Boehner isn’t going full forward with Impeachment proceedings. I don’t know if he’s been bought off by Obama, or just feels like this isn’t the time (due to the GOP not having the Senate) or what. But the truth of the matter is that Obama has been doing things practically since Day One of his Admin that should have gotten him Impeached. The man simply does not care about Separation of Powers and Constitutional Law. And that mindset comes directly from Chicago. Chicago is a single party rule town. I think one reason we aren’t seeing/hearing the outrage at this huge overreach with the EO’s is a Republican belief they will control the White House in 2016, and with BO setting the precedent, their guy can then use EO’s for whatever reason he desires without the Dem’s being able to scream. Of course, it won’t work out that way. Either Shrillary will be Prez, or whatever Repub gets the office will face immediate hostility by both Dems and the press for any use of EO’s, regardless of what Bo did, and they will cave like they always do.

Mr. West, thank you so much for your articles. You hit the nail on the head so many times. I just wish and pray that America wakes up before it is too late. Mr. West, with all due respect, are’t you a little late in realizing that Obama is NOT incompetent…..that he has an agenda? Yep! I’ve been saying this for years. This destruction is intentional. Obama is just the front man for a terrible evil that has been building for decades. Others control him, but HE thinks he’s in control . . . maybe so . . . for now.

He can escape scrutiny because his skin is black. The members of Congress are terrified of being labeled racist because they know that would cost them their seat so Obama has free reign to do whatever he pleases. This nation has been so indoctrinated with the idea that disagreeing with a black person on any subject makes you “hate” them. The most damaging thing you can be identified as is a racist. It can literally cost you everything. Look at Paula Dean. People have been falling all over themselves to make up for something that can never be changed or… Read more »

I’m really sick of hearing about his being black as the blame for everything being ignored. I, for one, couldn’t care less what color he is, as long as he is a decent man. But he ISN’T. Hentoff is wrong when he says “no knowledge by the public”, in fact the public seems to be the only ones screaming at the top of their voices for congress to stop him! They need to also prosecute Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Eric Holder, just to name a few! They play a huge role in why Obama has gotten away with everything he has done, and why he is dictating instead of working together with congress. We the people have had enough, when will congress?!

They are in on it. Most are lawyers and have been informed of the charge of misprision since “justia-gate”. They can’t impeach him or the very evidence they cite will reveal their own complicity in the usurpation. “Why does Obama get away with it?” Why are we STILL asking? The answer is what the Founders called “the “press” and today we call “media.” And we’re quite simply doomed to accomplish nothing except to have more to talk about, until we stop talking about the damage and focus on the cause: Media are not part of the problem. I find it hard to believe that anyone will do anything to the sociopath sitting in the White House. because it’s scary to think about-because starting something means what we all think it means-but it has started-this May there is a huge March in DC. Boehner is not going to do anything untill after the November elections, depending on the outcome, simply because he is afraid of being demonized and being called a racist…and you know the Liberal Media will be happy to do it. They are aware of how bad Obama is but to admit it is egg on the collective faces of the Liberal Media. If the right people do not get elected in November, the party is over.

Again, I have to ask why you insist on calling these people “liberal progressives.” These two terms are propaganda terms forced down our throats by our 12th grade poli-sci textbooks to make the left seem like their way is the way of the future and anyone who disagrees with them is an old bean stuck in the past, and when you put them together, you might as well call them “rock star superheroes.”

And he wants to do immigration reform, he would do to it like has done to Obamacare. Come on down.
Just a thought.

And finally someone on the left realizes this man is a pos.

well that is all good and well, but as it stands now there would not be enough votes to impeach him and sadly when looking at the numbers I realize how many RINOS would probably not vote to impeach, that is how bad this one party is anymore.

I share in Mr. Hentoff frustration, however, I disagree to some degree on a few comments. Obama’s mismanagement and deliberate cronyism has not escaped Fox News, however, for the most part, it has escaped the mainstream media and I hold them partly accountable for the current path of our country. Secondly, I do agree that most of Congress is sitting back and doing absolutely nothing while this President ruins our country, however, there are a few, such as Trey Gowdy, who aren’t keeping their mouth shut and I will remember them favorably when their up for re-election, but as far… Read more »

Strange to me that this has been going on now for almost 6 years and literally no one has tried to stop him or even called his hand. I really don’t think the Country can weather the balance of his term. We are the laughing stock of the world, losing our allies daily. Only news network not afraid of the truth is Fox. None of the others are reporting what is really going on. Have they all been bought up ?

There is a lot of nepotism and the reasoning varies. But true journalism is supposed to be truth seeking and non partial. That is not the case.

finally a democrat that sees him for what he is. He is not failing as a president, he is succeeding as a dictator.

Brandi lovell, it is crucial that people recognize their errors. Telling them not to learn and to sit still with their decisions from years ago is idiotic. The more truth people find, the more support there will be and truth will be defended with so much more vigor. The more growth the people make, the more the country grows. His charisma and lies tricked a lot of uninformed, naive people who believed he had their back when all he wanted was their vote. Get him and all the candidates groomed to rule like him away from the seat of power.… Read more »

I am sure the State of the Union Address will be full of lies and delivered in his usual deceptive presentation. How can he continue to abuse his executive power while the rest of the government does not enforce the checks and balances that control our president from executive overreach? Before I listen to the speech I can tell you the state of the union is abysmal.

I know how you all feel… but I for one will listen… I want to know first hand what this dictator has in store. He’s still in office and until someone get’s him out or his term ends…. we need to pay close attention to what he has planned.

Hate to say it Gr82bme but we STILL won’t know…but you are right we can at least catch a few of his slip ups (If we know what to look for) right?

Good point although listening to him creeps me out. Nothing that comes out of his mouth is truth. I had to laugh when he said his dad fought in WWII. if he did he would have been about eight years old at the time. Gosh this guy is pathological.

I no longer watch the State of the Union addresses. I can’t handle this president and his lies. It’s just too depressing.

If you can get past his staccato way he talks, the constant looking back and forth at the teleprompters and the whistling of the letter “s”.

I can’t stand to listen to him.

Totally agree! I won’t even listen to his speeches any more, but read what was said later just to keep up. His deceitfulness only raises my blood pressure and disgusts me too much. Didn’t listen to his recent NSA speech recently either because I don’t buy that he will stop that nonsense for a minute. However, I don’t blame you for listening, I just won’t watch him anymore because it raises my blood pressure. Maybe his speeches should start coming with a warning label or one of those advisory warnings that says, “some viewers may find the contents of this… Read more »
