Iraq: The New Liberal Killing Field

As President Obama returned from a well deserved two-week vacation in Hawaii – ok, being quite facetious here – I wonder if he did any reflection between rounds of golf?

Regardless, I have been reflecting upon the words of George Santayana, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” because as President Obama returns to Washington DC he is playing his part in a repeat of history.

After the fall of South Vietnam came the rise of Southeast Asian communism. Cambodia was embroiled in a five-year civil war, from 1970 to 1975, resulting in the ascension of the Khmer Rouge. Under the brutal leadership of Pol Pot, the following four years resulted in one of the most horrific acts of genocide.

The Khmer Rouge regime contributed to the deaths of between 1.7 to 2.5 million people in its “Killing Fields” with Pol Pot at the helm. His government forced a massive population shift from urban areas to the countryside to work in collective farms and labor projects to further a radical vision of “agrarian socialism.” Executions, forced labor, malnutrition, and poor medical care took their toll, decimating approximately 25 percent of the Cambodian population.

Pol Pot’s death grip over Democratic Kampuchea (funny how communists and socialists always call themselves Democratic) finally ended with the Cambodian-Vietnamese War.

Then as now, the liberal progressives of the Democrat (there’s that word again) party ardently protested and undermined the efforts of our military forces – then Vietnam, now Iraq. Then it was communism, now it is Islamic totalitarianism. Then it was the killing fields of Pol Pot, today the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah. Just as the Democrats abandoned Southeast Asia, they have now abandoned the Middle East.

President Obama, true to form, believed that a political promise was far more important than a strategic decision. Therefore, against the recommendations of Commanders on the ground, he refused any residual force to remain in Iraq. There will be detractors who will say Americans were tired of fighting. But my response is that America was not fighting, it was committed men and women — warriors all — who had defeated a vile and vicious Islamic jihadist enemy.

Just as many, including my older brother, fought in Vietnam, and were let down by politicians’ lack of resolve, it’s happening again. Some things never change.

A true leader, principled and courageous, would have explained to the American people why a complete withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq would not bode well. A true leader would have reminded the American people of the killing fields of Pol Pot.

A true leader would have held a press conference to say the following:

“I have consulted with the Commanders on the ground in Iraq, the combat leaders, and concur with their recommendation for a residual force.

Our men and women in Iraq have done that which many, including myself and others in my party, said was impossible. Against all odds they persevered, displayed American warrior resolve, and defeated al-Qaida and Islamic terrorism.

Now, some of you might say it’s time to withdraw, retreat and claim victory, but that is not how we sustain these fragile gains. We will maintain a residual force in Iraq that will provide an external cordon for this fledgling but historic land and allow people to recover. We will position our forces along the borders with Syria and Iran in order to interdict any terrorist elements. As well, we shall station forces in northern Iraq to foster military-to-military relations with our Kurdish friends and ensure their security along with any Christian (Assyrian and Chaldean) minorities.

This may not be a popular decision, but I am not here to be popular, but a strategic-minded president, a visionary leader. I have studied history and recall what happened after our precipitous, and dishonorable exit from Vietnam, the killing fields of Pol Pot and the bloodthirsty communists.

We shall not abandon those who risked their lives to support our efforts in Iraq. We shall not steal defeat from the jaws of success. We shall not dishonor the sacrifices of so many who over these eight years gave the last full measure of devotion. We will not let up and now is the time, now is a moment when we can, and we will, drive a stake into the heart of Islamic terrorism and send a clear message, “you can run, but America will ensure that you will die tired.”

Instead, America saw a charlatan, a political imposter who, with the aid of a complicit, propagandized media, made our nation believe there was honor in retreating. That combined with the insidious lie, “al-Qaida is decimated and on the run” now means a new killing field will be harvested. It is happening on the ground where American blood was shed in order to plant the seeds of liberty and freedom from Islamists.

Thanks to President Barack Hussein Obama, the black al-Qaida flag now flies in Fallujah and may soon fly in Ramadi, — it already flies in Benghazi.

Secretary of State John Kerry has stated we will not send US troops – but he lies. Unlike the Vietnam he recently visited, this enemy will not rest until they have restored a global caliphate, and it starts in the Middle East. Somewhere, sometime, we will have to send US troops, again.

I served in Operation Desert Shield/ Storm. I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. And I spent two and a half years in southern Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom as a civilian-military advisor to the Afghan National Army. I wonder how long it will be before the Taliban flag is flying once again in Kandahar?

  1. politicians never learn from history nor do they seem to care. It will be the soldier who has to fix this disaster again.

  2. Excellent commentary, Colonel West. The similarity between our weak-minded retreat from Vietnam and the same in Iraq is clearly illuminated in your essay for anyone free of denial to see. Please keep up the good work. We are behind you for your courage to fight the good fight. We can’t wait until you run again.

  3. Who is America’s real enemy? The Dem party is. obama is just the ‘talking head’ whom the whore media protects, twists, and gyrates for. The real National Socialist enemies of America are hiding behind the Title of Dem Senator, Dem Congressman and even are collaborated by those who call themselves Republicans.

    • Satan is America’s real enemy. The Dems and Repubs feed from the same trough of the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), which is ruled by Satan-worshipping global elites. Both parties are branches of the same one party political system which exist to deceive naive and gullible Americans into believing that we live in a free and democratic constitutional republic controlled by the rule of law, which we most assuredly do not!

Wake up Americans! We’ve all been had by the Jewish-led, Satan-worshipping global elites. And God allowed to to fulfill His perfect plan for humanity. Through this, God is proving decisively that the nature of man is desperately wicked apart from faith in God and that we will inevitably make a hideous mess of things without HIm in charge. Then, by late 2016, God is planning on sending His son Jesus back to earth to gather God’s elect and slay the wicked once and for all.

If we mis-diagnose the disease, our proposed cure will never cure it. That’s what’s happening here. This is not just about politics in America. It is about something way bigger!

  4. They don’t want us there. I’ve been the there and have seen it their eyes. Unfortunantly, war is an everyday thing there. There have been so many countries that have tried to occupy it or help control it but all have failed. Let them be and worry about the freedom and rights we are slowly losing everyday in our own country.

  5. I’m a former Marine, and my wife survived the Cambodian genocide as a little girl. Yes, Democrats sabotaged both wars that led to withdraws that caused both these genocides. But no, it was Bush that first choose not to, “position our forces along the borders with Syria and Iran in order to interdict any terrorist elements”. He gave into limiting our military’s mission and rules of engagement during a miserably late half hearted and clueless rebuilding effort. Had he continued to do what was right, perhaps Obama would not have been elected to do exactly what he promised.

  6. We are foolish to commit to any war/fighting with the current “Rules of Engagement” our soldiers have to operate under. Last year an Infantry LT was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the killing of two ‘civilians’ while under attack…this should never happen. The people of this Nation do not right now have the fortitude to start and complete a war and you need look no further than the liberal/progressive mindset that has polluted our school teachers to see the reasons why. The ‘tribal’ mentality of those in the middle east must come to a thirst for a better way of life on their own. Generals that fight wars to win the ‘hearts and minds’ of the people/enemy with the dead and wounded of our young men and women have no business in the military. We should avoid war when we can but, if and when we go, we should leave no doubt as to the very high price those who would fight us pay. Wars are won when the enemy believes that total surrender is their only option to total destruction.

  7. Thank you, sir, for sharing the truth of history and helping to insure we at least do not repeat history out of ignorance. The truth may be ugly, people may not want to hear it, but we clearly see that ignoring truth only serves to allow more suffering and death.

  8. Egypt, Yemen, Syria, Libya now Iran, we get involved and the Muslim Brotherhood gains traction. We, through Barack Obama, are destabilizing the region. Is Barack Obama a Sunni leading the Islamic Jihad? Crazier things have happened.

  9. LTC West is spot on! I last saw Vientiane, Laos in 1975 and it hasn’t changed much (certainly no better for it’s people) since being taken over by the Communists. And they have the gall to call it the “Gateway to Democracy”…SOB Commies! The likes of obama and John Kerry are no different than the Mekong River…crooked, shallow and DIRTY.

  10. When is it that a nation is supposed to take responsibility for their own internal issues? We spent blood and $millions trying to transform this country. Return is zero and now the finger pointing begins. America is not totally to blame for this mess. Are the Iraqis that stupid and passive? They are so divided in their beliefs and politics that the probability of success for a united country is virtually zero.

  11. I said this the day we heard the first bunker buster had been dropped in Iraq. Having been politically active as far back as the Vietnam War (as a Conservative Republican, to clarify), I KNEW this would turn into another Vietnam. We had no business being in Iraq when the real fight at the time was in Afghanistan, and the world was with us on that. The attack against Iraq was sheer hubris, and the world recognized it as such! Fighting on two fronts has never proven to be a very good idea, as history has shown. I knew very well that this was coming, and, YES, you can blame Bush for this one!!

    • Blame Bush, Blame Bush, Blame Bush! You sir are a fool. The attack against Iraq was not “sheer hubris” You dishonor our brave fighting men and women with such childish nonsense. We had every right to be in Iraq. Everyone in Washington D.C. had access to the same intelligence and info that Bush had and most agreed that Iraq had WMD’s then when the war became unpopular they threw Bush under the bus, backpedaled and called him a liar. We gave Saddam every opportunity to prevent us using military force against him. He continually refused to let UN weapons inspectors in to see if he had or was working on WMD’s. It was Saddams fault, not President George W. Bush. What was Saddam hiding? Toys for orphans? Why don’t people seem to want to remember any of this?

      • Nonsense. The intelligence was cherry-picked or plain bogus. McClatchy newspapers and Walter Pincus at the Washington Post laid it out BEFORE the war. Condi said Hussein’s aluminum tubes could only be used for a nuke program. In reality, only two analysts thought that, but Cheney & Co. ignored all the others because they wanted to have their war. And then there was the bogus yellowcake tale that even the White House admitted should not have been in the State of the Union.

      • They were not only looking fore nukes. It was the chemical weapons they were looking for also. Which Saddam had already used on the Kurds. .Remember Syria, it was chemicals weapons that Obama and the media were calling wmd’s. When UN inspectors announce that they are coming in, what do you is going to happen to the weapons. Disappear.

      • The chem/bio intelligence was also bogus. They believed everything that would help them justify invading, even if it was the fabricated nonsense from Curveball and Ahmed Chalabi. They didn’t want to believe what the UN inspectors were finding–or not finding–on the ground. Rather than pause to let the inspectors continue their work and see if it supported the case for war, Bush told them to leave Iraq. Couldn’t risk undermining the propaganda case that Cheney & Co. had built up.

      • You sir show your ignorance. You speak of lies by Bush… please kindly read below and note WHERE those lies came from. Then kindly shut up already.

Those who continue to believe the brainwashing propaganda by the liberal machine, I’m going to prove to you that the brainwashing you may believe is 100% FALSE.

Our constitution requires that only Congress can give approval and authorization to go to War OR use our military forces outside of our borders.

With pressure from congress, GW additionally:

Went to the UN for approval and followed ALL UN resolutions guidelines, agreements, and treaties.

Went to over a dozen ally nations and waited until THEY had also gained approval from their own counties to support OUR efforts before taking any action.

Went to NATO and received support.

GW Bush FOLLOWED the constitution to a tee and even went far and beyond constitutional requirements. NOTHING he did was Illegal. NOTHING.

Don’t worry, I’ll provide the proof for you, directly from the government. Just keep reading because you need to SEE the LIES over and over again so your brain can absorb it!

Now in comparison, the current fraud in our WH HAS NOT ONCE followed the constitution regarding the use of our military forces beyond our borders.

WITHOUT ONCE GOING TO CONGESS, HE (the fraud or his lackeys aka czars and personally appointed staff taking HIS orders):

Decided to use our military forces outside of our borders to bomb Libya.

Decided to use our CIA, our Military, and our ambassador beyond our borders for Libya gun-running.

Decided to implement Fast & Furious, i.e., gun-running beyond our borders to Mexico.

Now before any liberals get all teary eyed, and if your brain instantly exposes brainwashing by the instant compulsive thought and response of “GW started F&F program during
his administration, the fraud just continued it”, STOP. You have been brainwashed! Here me now and LISTEN. GW got approval from congress regarding the program they attempted during his admin. It was similar but it was NOT the same. Congress was INVOLVED. GW Bush coordinated the entire program WITH the Mexican government. There WERE measures taken during GW Bush’s program to actually track every single guns with GPS and FOLLOW THEM real-time. As soon as the GW Bush admin learned that the gun buyers
discovered and were removing the GPS devices, the program was ENDED immediately. NONE of these measures were
implemented by the current fraud’s administration. HE (the fraud or his lackeys aka czars and personally appointed staff taking HIS orders) KNEW they could not track the guns UNTIL they were used to murder. Whistleblowers were the ones that had to come out and leak this info only AFTER the fraud’s admin attempted to HIDE it after border agent Terry’s murder WITH one of the guns. Whistleblowers were threatened with retaliation which is AGAINST EEOC laws and
regulations. Whistleblowers had to go to congressional members for PROTECTION from THIS ADMINISTRATION. Whistleblowers have ended up dead.

Ok, back to the initial point of this Note. Below you will see quotes by the very democraps who have instigated the LIES of an illegal war by GW.

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
–President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
–President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”
        –Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
–Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

First of all you could care less about those who sacrificed their lives in Iraq! It is disgusting and insulting to use their deaths to support your lies! George W. Bush actually went to Congress before going into Iraq, only 14 were against it! Now shut up and take some responsibility! Here are some quotes from your HEROES with regard to Iraq AFTER George W. Bush became Pres. there are many more I can post while Clinton was Pres.

“There is no doubt that … Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be
back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.”
Letter to President Bush, Signed by:
        — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering
        them.”
        — Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
        — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
        — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
        — Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some
stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…”
        — Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
        — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”
        — Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

“He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do”
        — Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to
        develop nuclear weapons.”
        — Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and
storage of weapons of mass destruction.”
        — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…”
        — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Click this link to see the congressional record of all actions that WERE VOTED ON GIVING GW THE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO GO INTO IRAQ. The SAME exist for Afghanistan.

        Approval by Congress: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-107publ243/html/PLAW-107publ243.htm

PS: You WILL NOT find ANYTHING like this from congress for the current fraud in the WH who HAS BEEN THE ONLY PRESIDENT TO ILLEGALLY USE OUR MILITARY WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL
AND AUTHORITY. It is my sincere hope that if the real facts and truths are exposed enough to those brainwashed, the wall built up by said brainwashing will slowly be eroded away and the truth will FINALLY seep in and set you free.

      • GIGS UP thank you for showing the hypocracy of the democratic party on this subject the press is also as hypocritical as anybody or possibly just to damned lazy to look up the facts

      • A post with that much shouting and that many shut up’s
barely deserves a response. It also looks like a cut-and-paste job that responds to things I didn’t even say. But a few points:

Your string of quotes from Democrats does not change the
facts about why the 2003 invasion took place. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld wanted it, and they made it happen. The case for war was based on bad intelligence/deliberate deception from Cheney’s shadow intelligence operation, and it was sold to the American people through propaganda from the Iraq Study Group (Rove, Karen Hughes, etc.). Democrats did not cultivate Curveball and Chalabi. Democrats did not push the aluminum tubes and the nonexistent yellowcake. Democrats did not concoct a connection between Saddam and 9/11.

Many Democrats did consider Saddam dangerous and thought he had chemical and biological weapons. But those you quote who were in the Clinton administration and had the U.S. military at their disposal somehow never decided that invading Iraq was the best solution. It was Bush & Co. who decided war was a good idea and spent more than a year after 9/11 stoking war fever.

Those in Congress whom you quote from the run-up to the war are guilty of enabling Bush and Cheney, to their discredit (it probably cost Hillary the presidency in 2008). So, yes, they share responsibility for the war. But we know who was leading the parade—Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld—and we know which way the bad information was flowing: from the White House to Congress. Do you really think we would have invaded based on what some senators said if that wasn’t what Bush and Cheney were set on in the first place?

And it’s curious that Bush and congressional Republicans
maneuvered to have the votes on Iraq right before the 2002 election, to maximize political pressure. (So, many of the “yes” votes came from Democrats who decided it was futile to resist and hoped the issue would go away.) Contrast this with Bush 41, who asked Congress to vote on Kuwait AFTER the 1990 election to avoid politicizing the issue.

I didn’t say Bush acted illegally; I know Congress went along for the ride. But your claim that Obama did something unprecedented in Libya is just ridiculous. Presidents have used force dozens of times without a declaration of war or any other kind of congressional authorization before or after the fact. Here are some examples:

–Teddy Roosevelt carved the country of Panama out of
Colombia in 1903 by using the U.S. Navy to keep Colombian forces away from “rebels” who would let us build the canal.

–Wilson invaded the Dominican Republic in 1916; troops didn’t leave until 1924.

–We invaded almost every country in Central America and the Caribbean once or twice in the 20th century, including Puerto Rico, Haiti, Nicaragua and Honduras. There were occupations of more than a decade in several cases.

        –Reagan invaded Grenada in 1983.

–Bush 41 sent troops to Somalia in 1992. (It started as a
humanitarian mission, but they quickly became bogged down in the country’s civil war.)

–Clinton sent troops to Kosovo in 1999.

So there is plenty of precedent for what Obama did in Libya—and many examples where there were far more troops on the ground.

Finally, let me just suggest that the best way to support and honor the troops is to put them in harm’s way only when absolutely necessary and as a last resort, and when you know what you’re doing. In the case of Iraq, we and the troops would all have been much better off if Bush had allowed the U.N. inspectors to keep doing their work in 2003. And if he had to invade, we’d have been better off if he knew he was walking into the middle of a 1,500-year-old conflict between Sunnis and Shi’ites.

We should always bear in mind that war is not just another policy choice.

      • Yes, it was a copy/paste because I got tired of rewriting so often for individuals who just as you have done, intentionally don’t read what they don’t want to know. It’s obvious by your reply that you did not even read and went on yet again after the proof was in said writing to completely discredit your continued claims. To bad for you as you choose to continue your misguided attempts to oppress and disguise truth, and go ever farther in attempts to deceive others. Not a mature adult imho but hey… you’re entitled to one as well but if you must blather on regarding an “opinion”, please discontinue making statements as fact when history and evidence has proven you 100% incorrect.
PS: Just thought you’d like to know, that hated Halliburton that got so thrown under the bus? Your buddy ole pal (that incompetent fraud in our wh) continued and expanded all their contracts. Didn’t hear that in the news did ya?
        Sincerely,
        GO

      • What have you offered “proof” of? What have I said that is incorrect?
P.S. What does Halliburton have to do with anything I said?

      • I’m always amused when I hear the old “Bush lied–no WMDs” nugget. East, ya might wanna ask the Kurds (The ones who survived) if Saddam had WMDs. Or ya could talk 2 Scott Ritter (Remember him?)—- He could give U an earful about WMDs—-not that you’d be willing 2 listen. You seem 2 have a penchant 4 ignoring the FACTS when they’re staring U in the face. Non Compos Mentis, my friend. You can’t handle the Truth. (Or the Proof.)

      • Ok, so you’re saying that because Saddam did have WMDs at a previous time, we were right to invade in 2003 even though he no longer had them.

Not too many people outside the Bush administration would agree that rises to the level of imminent threat, By the same logic, we should invade Cuba now because of the missiles they had 52 years ago.

      • “So you’re saying that because Saddam did have WMDs @ a previous time, we were right to invade in 2003 even though he no longer had them.” Now yer putting words in
my mouth. I didn’t say that I knew when the last shipment of WMDs left Iraq. Nobody Knows, not even Scott Ritter. Ritter just knew that while he was being sandbagged @ the front gate, the loaded trucks were leaving the back gate. Assuming U have a chrystal ball–“even tho he no longer had them” — U tell ME when the last truck left 4 Syria. (But we R making progress; you’re at least admitting that there WERE WMDs involved.) Now all U have 2 do is explain 2 me how our military was supposed 2 know that the last truck had left 4 Syria. (Unlike you, they had no chrystal ball.) As far as Cuba goes, we knew exactly when the Russians blinked & the missiles went back 2 Russia. We did NOT know when the last truck left 4 Syria. I have answered all of your questions & posits promptly & sincerely w/no sarc. Now, If U can’t answer questions & then ask them in Quid Pro Quo fashion, I’m not gonna try 2 talk 2 U anymore.

      • Regarding GHWB and Kuwait.
1990 – Pre Iraq invasion, we had over 200k military already deployed as part of their normal active duty assignment in the area.
        1990 – August – Iraq invaded Kuwait.
1990 – Late August – GHWB went before Congress for support, sent enough troops to double the size in Kuwait
and surrounding areas, provided additional defense missile systems, and began participation with the UN for the purposes of establishing a UN coalition.
1990 – September and October – Congress was provided reports. GHWB stated he didn’t believe approval was necessary for the UN effort he was participating in currently consisted only of diplomatic agendas and asked congress to
wait until that changed. Congress agreed to wait and provide approval only if diplomatic efforts through the UN failed. They did fail and in late November the UN gave the coalition directive to use “all necessary means”. Congress immediately approved. Not sure where you get your slant about something intentional on Bush’s part to avoid politics, his intent was to lead the UN coalition effort and he reported to congress exactly what he did. If you wish to place blame in this manor, I believe it’s misdirected. Unless you believe somehow Bush convinced the UN to hold their directive of until after the election so be it.
1991 – February – US led coalition forces began fighting and expelling Iraq and successfully restored Kuwait’s sovereignty.
GHWB involved congress from get go “with full
        transparency”.
        http://loc.gov/law/help/war-powers.php
        http://countrystudies.us/persian-gulf-states/32.htm

        Bush II
2002 – July 2-12 – numerous resolutions were written in both the house and senate by both parties regarding the provision and authorization for the use of force against Iraq
so I’m not sure why you assume the timeline for the resolutions and the expediency of approving the same was due to Bush.
2002 – July 30 – Senate democrat (Feinstein) introduced resolution to deny any resolution submitted to senate unless declaration of War was provided.
2002 – October 2 – Numerous new resolutions were submitted as newly written or amended with statement that declaration of War on Terror interpretation encompassed required declaration.
2002 – October 7 – Final house resolution amended by committee on international relations and submitted back to house.
        2002 – October 10 – Passed house.
        2002 – October 11 – Passed senate.
2002 – October 16 – Presidential signature and become law.
        2002 – November 8 – UN resolution 1441 passed.
2002 – December – Turkey moves soldiers to the border.
2003 – January – leaders of Britain, Spain, Italy, Portugal,
Hungary, Poland, Denmark and the Czech Republic shows support for the US through mass media news outlets.
        2003 – February – Australia notifies support.
I believe you are incorrect in your recollection that may be
causing your belief that HE (GW) intentionally put this off until just prior to the election. It was a mere 8.5 months after 9-11 that members of both parties in the house and senate began submitting resolutions.
I also believe you are incorrect regarding “The case for war
was based on bad intelligence/deliberate deception from Cheney’s shadow intelligence operation…”. The bad information was based on intelligence from the prior
administration not Cheney. Yes they found out years later some was incorrect and they had to eat a very large piece of humble pie, however, the portion of bad information you provided wasn’t all that the decisions were based on. The decisions were based on other information the prior administration had verified as well as numerous other countries information. Other countries made mistakes also, but I suppose you believe that Cheney’s shadow operation was able to dictate that somehow too. I appreciate that you identified only the information that turned out to be
incorrect and omitted the intelligence that was indeed verified, i.e., Al Qaeda training camps, numerous Al Qaeda seeking and gaining refuge in Iraq, the successful Kurd WMD murders, the missiles – M6 that were banned, the UN identification of his weapon list being basically a duplicate of the same from 1997, British claims of uranium purchases, the shooting at our no-fly-zone planes over the years, the invasion of Kuwait, UN denial to interview scientist, harassment or denial of weapon inspectors, the Iraq missile range non-compliances found, Iraqs ordering of US uniforms, the French selling military plane parts against UN
sanctions, the UN discovery of an unclaimed Iraq drone, Arab notification of Iraq training camps for suicide bombers, and the list goes on.

The point on this is, you are against war I am not. My issue
is that you show a high level of hypocrisy when you hold distain for Republicans and the prior administration even though they followed the correct procedures as set forth in our constitution, yet you do not hold disdain for the current one that does not.

I will identify the a sampling of the current admins non-compliances towards the end.

Regarding the list you cite as evidence on prior
non-compliance by other admins for which you give the current admin a pass stating his actions not unprecedented:

        Theodore Roosevelt – Columbia
1903 – Dec 1903 State of the Union address. I suggest you read it.
I believe you were mistaken – congress was fully briefed
        http://stateoftheunionaddress.org/1903-theodore-roosevelt

        Wilson – Dominican Republic
1916 – We had been there in force acting as mediators
and satisfying the terms of our treaty since 1904. There were no military actions necessary as the current forces already there in a peace keeping and mediation role were enough to intimidate and bend the DRs will. Congressional oversight and budget appropriations were provided.
I believe you’re mistaken on this one – performing per
        treaty which was ratified
        http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/dominican-republic-1916.htm

BTW, here is a good page for you to dig further into historical archives provided by the federal gov on the
list you provided as well as others. It’s a good starting point for sure used in conjunction with the Library of Congress Thomas for congresses from about 98 up if I recall.

        Puerto Rico
1915 July – occupation by 330 marines lol – to safeguard the interests of U.S. corporations
1915 September – the United States Senate ratified the Haitian-American Convention, a treaty granting the United States security and economic oversight of Haiti for a 10-year period.
I believe you’re mistaken on this one – treaty ratified within 60 days
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_Haiti#Government_and_opposition
        http://countrystudies.us/haiti/15.htm

        Haiti
1889 – 1891 – Lease in Haiti for a naval base procured by
        Andrew Johnson
1915 – Wilson sent in marines to safeguard the interest of the U.S. – no force used – ending with the
Haitian-American Treaty ratified September 2015. The articles of this agreement created a Haitian gendarmerie, essentially a military force made up of Americans and Haitians and controlled by the U.S. marines. Also in the treaty, the US gained complete control over Haitian finances, and the right to intervene in Haiti whenever the U.S. Government deemed necessary.
The Treaty can be viewed here: https://archive.org/details/treatywithhaiti00pomegoog
Congress was clearly involved all along the line, and even held their own in-country investigations when claims of inappropriate actions rose.
1921 – The US senate reorganized and centralized the power in Haiti as per the treaty.
        More here: http://history.state.gov/milestones/1914-1920/haiti
I believe you’re mistaken on this one – congress was fully aware and the treaty was ratified within 60 days even before the War Powers Act, WPA.

        Nicaragua
Pre 1909 – The proliferation of United States companies in Nicaragua grew to the point that, by the early 1900s, United States firms controlled most of the production of coffee, bananas, gold, and lumber.
1909 – occupation by 400 marines – to safeguard the interest of the U.S.
1912 – occupation of additional 2700 marines at the request of Nicaragua – no force used opposition fled
        1913 – occupation reduced to a 100 marines lol – maintained until 1933
1914 – treaty negotiations ended with request for use of military intervention section denied by congress. Verbiage taken out and treaty finally signed and ratified. The treaty also contained a 99 year lease on the canal as well as the navy base.
I believe you’re mistaken – no invasion – congress was fully
aware and treaty ratified albeit slow due to negotiations.

        Honduras
1907 – The General Treaty of Peace and Amity brokered with the US support – provided for the permanent neutrality of Honduras in any future Central American conflicts with US support promised.
1909 – U.S. stepped in to mediate a debt refi initially brokered for Honduras by the U.S in exchange for the bankers taking control the Honduran railroad, U.S. guarantee of Honduran independence, and U.S. control of customer revenue.
1911 – U.S. stepped up to mediate once again after an uprising regarding debt, showing up with naval warships and bringing both sides to a conference on one of them. Cease fire was agreed to, the current president resigned, a temporary president was agree too, and early free elections were promised and followed through in 1912.
1912-1921 – U.S. warships were often dispatched per the treaty to protect U.S. interest, support neutrality in conflict, and dampen the effect of revolutionaries.
1930 – U.S stepped in once again to mediate territorial disputes and prevent war between Guatemala and Honduras. A settlement was reached.
I believe you’re mistaken – no invasion – congress fully
        aware and treaty ratified
        http://countrystudies.us/honduras/15.htm
        http://countrystudies.us/honduras/16.htm
        http://countrystudies.us/honduras/100.htm

        Granada
1983 – Reagan sent 1600 troops in to conduct a rescue mission and ensured the safe extraction of about a thousand Americans mainly college students on the Island.
They were evacuated swiftly with a follow on report to
congress within 60 days. The WPA wasn’t cited as troops did not stay and the purpose was not to become involved
in the Nations war nor did they.
I agree only slightly with you on this one. Although Reagan
didn’t cite the appropriate section of the WPA he did report, congress was fully aware, called him on it and did approve the actions on a limited extended time table. It would also appear the Granada government knew of and appreciated the actions taken – see 2nd link below – I’m not sure why anyone would consider this an invasion.

        http://countrystudies.us/caribbean-islands/82.htm
See also WPA info here – http://loc.gov/law/help/war-powers.php

        Somalia
1992 – GHWB sent 30000 troops in to aid the UN peacekeeping effort. The initial efforts were completely successful.
1993 – During Clintons first year in office the war escalated. A raid was ordered to capture the warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid for which our soldiers were to take part. To me this was outside the scope of the UN “peacekeeping” effort. During that raid 18 US soldiers were killed. This led Clinton
to order withdraws of troops, although it took him some 6 months to do so and he never got congressional approval for coordinated war and military specific type actions.
I believe you’re mistaken regarding GHWB – congress was
fully aware and the initial effort remained within scope and was a large success.
Once the mission changed during Clinton’s 1st year in office, I believe he made the correct decision albeit a
        bit slow.
        http://www.transportation.army.mil/museum/transportation%20museum/somalia.htm

        Kosovo
1999 – Clinton sent troops to participate in a war. He did file reports but did not cite the WPA section required. He passed his 60 day window and was in noncompliance. Congress called him on it. Clinton’s rebuttal was that the
WPA was defective. Congress was divided and would not approve the action. Eventually a few reps sued for resolution. 2 lower courts refused to hear the suit based on lack of standing and the SCOTUS refused to take it.
I AGREE with you on this one.

Now back to the main point of you contention. Those bad Republicans and this current president is just following the same but it’s not unprecedented so he should be given a pass. Look up at the list again. The only one who refused to
comply with policy and who never got approval for actual participation in a war or military action according to the
Constitution or the WPA was Clinton, a democrat. Now on to your beloved leader whom you are hell bend on making excuses for:

        Obama
Drone attacks – at will in what ever country his little heart desires. Bush used them in Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan and the numbers were limited up until 2008 when Pakistan’s own general asked for an increase. I believe there were a few others, perhaps 2 in other areas but he did go to congress. Obama on the other hand does not, and also uses really cute bean counts for the designation of militants vs civilians according to several administration officials. Obama’s bean counts lump all military-age males in a strike zone as militants unless there is explicit intelligence proving them innocent. Of course not once has said intelligence been gathered expressly to prove this. DOJ has also incorrectly claimed drone strikes are legal according to International Law, even though there has been no congressional approval for his acts outside of Iraq
and Afghanistan. Congress has even stated the current administration must return for approval which he has refused to do. The UN has also stated the administration is in violation of international law and the drone strikes are additionally deemed human rights violations completely contradicting the DOJ statements.
A few stats for you below which seem to be the average among several sources including the current admin. Complains have been filed by the UN against the administration for lack of disclosure so who knows for sure?!? I’m sure you would agree we minimally know what they have admitted to right?

Pakistan 2009-13 total 318 – Bush 46. Not until 2010 after public outcry did Congress demand review of all drone strikes, after the fact. In 2011 Pakistan issued orders to shoot down drones then reversed itself in 2012 without a required treaty ratification.
Yemen 2009-13 total 17 after congress has advised he needed to return for congressional approval because Yemen states it is leading. 2001 Bush 1 with pre-congressional oversight.
Somalia 2009-13 total 8 continuing without treaty, WPA section cited or congressional approval. 2007 Bush
        1 with congressional oversight
Libya 2011 total 105 from April through September. Over 60 days without treaty, WPA section cited or
        congressional approval.
Columbia 2009-2013 total 4 Over 60 days without treaty, WPA section cited or congressional approval. Considered
CIA covert lethal coordinated action for terrorist strike coordination and requires a specific presidential finding and notification to congressional intelligence committees which was not performed. Since 2009 one strike was against a drug trafficker and the remaining 3 were against FARC not Al Qaeda terrorists. All strikes since 2009 have
inappropriately been managed as CIA covert lethal actions but are actually assassinations which are against US
law. Bush 2007 1 with congressional oversight.

        Additional actions
        Honduras
CIA and DEA setting up shop and participating in what was
inappropriately identified as a War on Drugs from 2009-2012 aiding a man in military actions who had been charged with human rights violations by the UN.

        Mexico
War on Drugs originally initiated by Bush in 2007 with
funding approved to go to security forces training for one year. The program was extended indefinitely by Obama in 2009, with funding expanded to pay for their federal police and their military as well. Funding and collaboration continues even though the Mexican counterparts have since been accused of human rights violations by the American Director of Human Rights Watch.

        Argentina
Construction of a military base inappropriately identified
for the purpose of humanitarian relief. Over 45 million designated and transferred to Argentinean military and police funneled through USAID as of April 2012. The base also at that time consisted of eight buildings intended for mock urban battle training but the training was identified
inappropriately as United Nations peacekeeping activities. The facility just happens to also sit directly over one of the worlds largest water aquifers.

        Columbia
2009 – Inappropriately identified and entered into a Military pact with Columbia for access to numerous military bases by our forces. It was denied as unconstitutional by a
military advisor stating that it would have to go through congress for approval as a treaty, which they would refused to ratify. Columbia’s congress also later denied the pact and any future revision into a treaty for the same.

I could go on and on but 2 hours researching and analyzing some of this stuff for the umpteenth time is hurting my old eyes. Again, you are anti-war and others are not. I can understand that. The hypocrisy I must point out. I hope I did so in a non insulting manor. I also tried not to yell hehe, but I have used MS word to document so I can save. This isn’t the first time and I’m sure won’t be the last time I provide the info so you are getting a copy/paste again and I’ll have it in case I need it in the future!

There will always be wars and I truly hope you can find
peace within yourself to at least approach the topic and analyze it from a non-partisan perspective in the future before you make assumptions that you can see above were not correct. I also hope I might have provided you some tools to use if you do! Good luck to you.

        Sincerely,
        GO

      • Facts, facts, and more facts. Thank you Sir. Not something we typically get to see or hear, unless we search.

      • Hey it is what it is – But now we have a HUGE and FAST Growing Malignant Cancer taking over our schools and right into our very HEALTH care system — remember the famous “WE WILL BURY YOU!” if Obama isn’t an arm in digging and poisoning all of us to turn on one another and eat each other alive- Then he must be Dr. Fix and Love America and all this FREE SPEECH WE are enjoying here- WHY CANNOT WE OVERCOME? AND THAT IS TRUELY NOT RACIST IT’S PATRIOTIC!

      • Reality-based newspapers. Their coverage of the buildup to the war was a Journalism 101 case study in how to avoid getting co-opted by official sources, unlike most of the rest of the media. And I would hope that most of us could agree that skepticism of official sources is a good thing. Journalists should not be stenographers.

  12. Frankly, I admire Allen West so very much and pray for him and his family everyday! However, my primary concern is the United States of America! We are about to go under without intervention! Obama is using the Marx concept of redistribution of wealth… as well as every other system… lying system… lawless system… whatever but Marxism is not his goal! His goal is blatantly the goal of islam! He will use any system to destroy America… bankrupt us and make us a third world country… usurp all power and transfer our country to the muslim radicals who (thanks to No Immigration enforcement and No southern borders) are already in place by the millions, in “sleeper cells” across the nation complete with 35+ muslim terrorist training camps throughout our country to take over – establish their muslim caliphate complete with Sharia law! He has been sponsored and groomed many years from Saudi Arabia for this purpose! He is a treasonous imposter with a conspiracy in place to complete what the twin towers announced! allah akbar is his slogan! That is his goal and he has used any method necessary to achieve it! We must WAKE UP! He won’t go quietly! He will create a State of Emergency for some phony reason and
declare Martial law! When he does, in accordance with his own (ILLEGAL)
Executive Order #11921, Congress can do nothing for six months. It will then be
too late! The clock is ticking! Congress WON’T move! Some members of Congress
are participating in this Conspiracy because it seems insane that no one has
taken action until now! Everytime the House attempts anything, the Senate doesn’t act! SHAME ON YOU CONGRESS! SHAME ON YOU SUPREME COURT! WHERE IS OUR MARINES? WHERE IS OUR MILITARY? They have sworn an oath to protect and defend our Constitution from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC! We desperately need them to Clean out our entire Government… this nest of Treasonous Saboteurs and TAKE THE HILL!

    • My complements to you Shirley for recognizing what is going on in this current administration. We have a tough road ahead us. But, it is doubtful, that this current President will change his ways. I hope all good citizens in America will get after those that call themselves Republicans & say they want to protect us.from this tyranny. I am very troubled that these so called Republicans are selling out to Obama & only concerned about being re-elected. We all need to pressure those in Congress to do the will of the people & support the Constitution of the United States. I would like to remind our citizens that the US Representatives of the House Of Representatives were elected to represent the people. While US Senators only represent the States, they represent. And the majority of the Representatives are in fact Republicans. Giving one to believe the people of America still support our Republic. We are in fact a Republic, not a Democracy. A Republic believes in the individual rights of all it’s citizens. While a Democracy rules by the Majority. Public Enemy Number one in America is not Obama, but Harry Reid, Majority Leader of the Senate. He has managed to empower Obama at every turn, by blocking legislation by the House & not allowing a Bill to come to the floor of the Senate. The result is that there is no balance of Power between the Legislative Branch & the Executive Branch of our Government. This allows President Obama to issue Executive Orders, that can not be vetoed in 45 days by the Congress. Thus, giving Obama almost Dictator Rule over America. This is why Russia has even said Obama is the last President of the US. We may not see it. But, others from the world can. With this kind of power he can even unbalance the status quo of the Nations of the world. Just look what has happened in North Africa & the Middle East. America’s future is in much jeopardy today. In the past many of those that served America in time of War have come home & lead our country. Since so many are now badly disabled from the war by their wounds & the drugs they were required to take, it is doubtful in this liberal dominated country that we will ever return to the greatness, that we were following our victory after World War II.

      • Gordon…..Thank YOU that you also see what is playing out in Washington. It is a profound relief that more Americans are opening there eyes to the awful truth. I do believe that AMERICANS, We the People can turn our nation around will it be easy? NO it won’t! But a very wise man used to tell me when I was growing up, NOTHING worth having is EVER easy! And That’s very TRUE!

    • At one time I was almost convinced that Obama was a Muslim. But there is not evidence of it other than his exposure as a child, and his attempts at trying to win the support of Muslims by trying to “identify” with them in order to gain their support. Obama has been closely examined by political and national security experts, none of which have concluded he is a Muslim. Obama is a “died in the wool” Socialist. He has been one of many Socialist who have infiltrated and taken over the Democrat party. In a sense, Socialism is his religion. Some Socialist of old who have left the program speak of who all encompassing the ideology is, not just in term of politics, but a mindset that rules their lives. Most of what Obama does in our nation is to alter, adapt, influence, and control for the purpose of pushing Socialism into our laws and every other system. If he seems to betray a group that supported him, it would be because the group can be molded into a stricter form of a socialist arm. Obama is also a Global Socialist, hence his devotion to the Muslim Brotherhood. Islam, in general, has embraced socialist type of programs. They use them to gain control of the communities in order to win their support as direct public political opinion. Democratic methods are merely a shortcut and tool for taking over.

  13. I is with sadness that I, along with tens of thousands of Viet Nam veterans, watched the untimely, unilateral withdrawal from Iraq, and the odd announcement of an exit date from Afghanistan. The ramification of Mr. Obama’s policies will haunt America for generations. John M. Del Vecchio; Author: For The Sake Of All Living Things (Cambodia 1968-1985)

    • I agree, we will be living with the consequences for a long time and it will cost us a lot of blood and treasure. But I don’t see any remedy just now that wouldn’t make things worse and I also don’t see comparing Iraq and Cambodia.

Both Lon Nol and Theiu in S. Vietnam signed the ceasefire with the promise that if the commies attacked again, we would come to their aid. They actually wanted to maintain their freedom and be our allies. That promise was broken by the Leftist Democrat congress that came to power in the wake of Watergate and broke our pledged word.

With the exception of the Kurds, a lot of Iraqis were anti U.S. and had the attitude of ‘thank you for your time and money, ferenghis. Now leave.’

A lot of Iraqis, especially the Shi’ites habitually referred to our troops as ‘the Jews’ to show how much they despised us as in ‘you can’t go down that road today, the Jews closed it off.’

      Therein lies the difference.

  14. Most Americans donot even remember WW2 let alone Vietnam – or care -and they are hardly conserned with the wake of 9-11 – more are concerned with who will win American idol.

  15. How about you mind your own business and get the bleep out of these countries in the first place? Liberals are anti war, always have been. That doesn’t mean even peaceful anti war people don’t also have their boiling point. You don’t poke a stick at a rabid dog hoping it will behave as you wish it. It’s time to refocus on America and improving our situation at home. Don’t ask me…check the polls.
As long as the GOP plays the blame game for issues its largely responsible for creating, they will continue to lose political power. So go ahead and blame, blame, blame…it actually works against your plans for political gains.

    • please explain to me what is done with a rabid dawg… you are a blabbering idiot with no ability to think beyond your own nose.

      • What exactly qualifies you more to speak on the subject? Are you a former jarhead or something? Do you work for the Pentagon?

      • I am a government policy, data. and measurement and analysis analyst and have worked in positions as such identified as a subject matter expert for which I have received numerous awards. I have also performed as an internal/external policy and process auditor.
Not that I understand what the Pentagon specifically has to do with your initial post as it was in regards to anti-war peoples; inability to keep an apparent level head (rabid dog) and the smoke screen you attempted to blow throwing blame, but I will respond regardless. I do indeed have a very close family member who did hold a high position in the government who did work at the Pentagon (among numerous other assignments – ALL GS 14 and up mind you) and under numerous administrations. I worked indirect for the government as well in the same capacities I identified in the opening paragraph.
I suppose you don’t believe or haven’t heard Bill Clinton chose to let OBL go when he was offered him?
I suppose you don’t believe or haven’t heard that Bill Clinton’s administration didn’t fully brief GWB’s transitional team that the information from Clinton’s tenure was the exact same as what GWB and Congress heard that first year he was in office for which both (and the UN and NATO and dozens of other Countries) based their decisions?
It doesn’t take much anymore to perform research on your own. I suggest you try it without limiting yourself only to REAL news that isn’t limited to your apparent limited views.
        Sincerely GO

      • Thank you GO. I love people who only find and read articles that support their cause, but when you ask them to do research or to show you provable facts, they just get mad and try to insult you… oh well, but I tell people about clinton and demos tend to blow up. My family familu membet was Clinton’s Secretary of state…. trust me there are many things that clintons admin knew and did that wr are having to deal with during bush years and on….its only sad.

      • Thank You! I have said for a long time now that the Dem.’s and Repub.’s are opposite sides of the same coin! Heads I win and Tails you lose. Time To clean house and set our house in order.

  16. Col. West, I have tremendous respect for you. We agree on almost everything. But not this.

We simply do not have the leadership at the top to command the mission properly, just as we didn’t when GW Bush was President. You ran into that PC nonsense yourself. The true allies we had in Iraq were the Kurds, and we sold them out. Then we threw our military victory away:

    http://joshuapundit.blogspot.com/2014/01/al-qaeda-wins-major-victory-over-iraqi.html

Another thing..President Obama was very quick to pound his chest and claim he ended the
war in Iraq, and a lot of his critics are blaming him for the current
chaos. Neither is true. The disposition of forces agreement was signed in
2009 by George W. Bush before he left office, and it was al-Maliki,
following his Iranian friends orders who insisted on a complete U.S.
withdrawal. Barack Obama had nothing to do with it – he simply followed
the agreement. He neither ended the war not ‘lost’ it – although he
certainly did his very best to do the latter as a U.S. senator.

I oppose us sending any military hardware or troops to Iraq unless we have a very different C in C and crystal clear objectives. The way things are now, any help we give al-Maliki is simply helping Iran.

    Regards,
    Rob Miller

    • Sure don’t remember the SOFA being completed and not being completed was the justification to leave no military personnel in Iraq. Obama did not want an agreement and did not push it from what I read. Could be wrong, but don’t think so.

    • Bush and Cheney aided and abetted Iran by toppling Saddam. Iraq under Saddam was an enemy of and regional counterweight to Iran. After Saddam, because of the Shi’ite-majority government, Iraq has become an ally of Iran.

  17. Here is the solution to Iraq, under Bush. As Bush you force [order] Donald Rumsfeld to put a battalion of Rangers on the Afghan side of the Paki border in Tora Bora where Osama bin Ladin is hiding, trying to make a run into Paki-land. [Rumsfeld said he never got the word “up through the chain of command” that we were requesting the Rangers, total bull]. You capture and kill bin Ladin . Put his head on a pike and fly it, and the team that captured him, to Baghdad for an audience with Saddam. Put the head on his desk and say, “Toe the line or you’re next.”

Then you have a head of state who clearly understands your position and his, and he survives as a needed counterbalance to Iran.

We all, and Liberals in particular, make the mistake of thinking that the Taliban, the Haqani Network, Hamas, Hezbullah and al Queda think like we in the West do. They don’t. Developmentally, the war lords who run these countries are in the 12thCentury. They strap suicide vests to their children and treat their women like rented mules. They understand force and respect whomever applies it well. They regard diplomacy as a way to buy time while they lick their wounds and re-arm.
We produced a mess in Iraq under Bush, made worse by Obama.

I don’t have the time or inclination to parse out who’s the worse one of the two. I think it’s Obama, based on points given to “W” for at least trying to do the right thing. Obama is a Black Hole in the Oval Office. No pun intended.

We need new leadership in DC, and throughout the country. I’m with the Colonel based on his fruitful methods of interrogation, and more.

  18. It’s not just the American economy or the people that suffer over these ignorant decisions it’s the Troops that have to do the fighting. This country has a long history of turning on it’s Veterans. They only become important when politicians need someone else to die for their useless causes. Iraq and Afghanistan are just the latest in the list. After all is said and done the Vet is shoved into a closet and forgotten. Anyone who thinks this country takes care of it’s Vets are so full of crap it’s not funny. This is just one of those examples. .http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?feature=player_embedded&v=sNOsIB5VMSQ …( You think history wont repeat itself, look at recent events in DC) Vietnam is another, Iraq and Afghanistan will follow shortly. Not only does this country think Troops are expendable during war, it thinks they are expendable after the wars are over. So please stop all the stupid wind bagging about how this country should be concerned about it’s troops. It doesn’t care now and never has. The only time this country or any other country gives a crap about Soldiers is when the politicians need someone to die for their ignorance.

    • It’s SHAMEFUL the way our veterans are treated by their own government. Hoover knew what he was doing And so did FDR he put some of them to work in the Florida Keys they were cheap labor for FDR he put them in camps and when that hurricane bore down he left them there to die TWO whole camps were decimated! One was unharmed GUESS who had to go to each and every Island and gather those vet.’s corpse’s? You guessed it! the camp that was left unharmed. Ernest Hemingway was one of those Vet.’s that was there ALL of the corpse’s were buried in a mass grave. THIS is what the government THINKS of our Vet.’s! RayR55 From a proud family of Veterans Thank You for your service and Welcome Home Soldier.

      • Thank you Sir, and thank all your family for their service. It’s not for myself that I show concern though. I’m old and near my end, the damage done from 44 years of living as a skeleton in this countries closet has taken it’s toll, but the suffering is nearly over. I’m ok with that. The ones I have great concern for are the young men and women that fight today. They will indeed suffer greatly for their efforts. Suicide rates are climbing in their ranks as we speak. Even today I see men form my time dying form their own hands mostly because of neglect. I hear the VA tout how great a job they do, talk about out right lies. If anyone wants a taste of what Obamacare is bringing just look into the VA healthcare system. I have a hip that is literally destroyed and have no place else to turn to. Just to see an ortho doctor will take over a month. I’m left to deal with the pain as best I can. I have prayed for relief by death, but will not take my own life. So the beat goes on for me, but for the young that now serve there could be hope if people would just wake up. I would say,Take the solution away from government and put it in the hands of the people, but with a population that is 50+% ignorant masses, that wont work either. So what we have is another generation of skeletons for the government closet. SHAMEFUL indeed Sir.

  19. Anyone with just a modicum of sanity would agree, that war is something you resort to when all other means of settling your differences have been exhausted, and there is an imminent threat to the security of the nation. When that decision to go to war is made, it must be made with the resolve to WIN the war. You do not go in with insane, sissified Rules of Engagement … these only serve to get more of our brave warriors maimed or killed … and you do not declare victory and pull out your forces before the job is done.

In every war fought by this great nation, up until the Korean War, we fought to WIN. No other outcome was, nor should be, acceptable. We have the most intelligent, highly trained, and well equipped fighting force in the world. Our brave men and women in uniform are all volunteers, and for the most part, highly motivated. Our military now is starting to suffer from a lack of senior leadership as the result of our traitorous President’s firing of senior officers who will not kowtow, and go along with his liberal agenda. This president, and most of those in his party, have no moral compass, and they have total disdain for America, and the Principles upon which this great nation was established. These charlatans are totally, and completely, agenda driven. Their goal is to destroy the nation’s economy, create a giant welfare state, and take total control of every aspect of our lives. They have no regard for the lives lost in Iraq and Afganistan, and they are not committed to defeating Islamic terrorism. Their only commitment is to their Marxist driven agenda.

Wake up America! We are in dire straits! Islamofascism must be defeated wherever it exists, and we cannot allow the Marxist/Alinskyites to prevail, and destroy this country we love.

    • Rod…….Americans are beginning to wake up and open their eyes to the threat within our gates. There is no enemy that is more dangerous than the enemy within our own gates. Many of us KNOW what is coming Pray and prepare yourself and loved ones. Irish

  20. I like your history lesson, but one thing for sure, since ww2 we have not deployed our military in a way to win…in ww2 our armies were designed to kill 20 to 30 thousand of the enemy a week. Killing the enemy is how you win. Kill so many of them there are none left to fight….taking ground…moving forward towards an objective…the bases in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan are akin to good ol’ boys camping out at night sitting around a fire drinking beer and then leaving camp in the morning to look for deer….no way to win a war…
