leaves 104,000 low-income folks out in the cold

More bad news about the Obamacare rollout. Thousands of low-income consumers waiting for Medicaid coverage are “stuck in limbo” as a result of problems with

According to Kaiser Health News, an editorially independent program of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation,

The website used by 36 states has been unable to transfer income and other data from applications to the state agencies that run Medicaid, the state-federal program for low-income adults, and the children’s insurance program. As a result, tens of thousands of applicants have been left in limbo – without coverage that was supposed to begin Jan. 1. State Medicaid officials in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Arizona and Illinois say they have not been able to enroll anyone in Medicaid or CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program) directly from the website.

Gee, if this is happening for Medicaid coverage, just imagine what it’s like for the millions of Americans who lost their insurance coverage and sought reprieve on

One of the major concerns for Obamacare was the backend process to ensure a complete processing of applications. Consumers were supposed to find out on if they qualified for Medicaid or CHIP or for subsidies to buy private insurance. If they were eligible, their applications would automatically be transmitted to state Medicaid agencies.

However continuing software problems mean that’s not happening. State Medicaid officials in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Arizona and Illinois say they haven’t able to enroll anyone in Medicaid or CHIP directly from the website, and an estimated 104,000 are still awaiting for enrollment.

South Carolina Deputy Medicaid Director, John Supra, expressed his frustrations as his agency recently began testing a data transfer system with the federal government to receive applicants’ data from

He estimates it could take several weeks to reach everyone who has applied. “It was supposed to be a seamless and totally automated system for states,” Supra said. He said he doesn’t know how many started on the website and then came to the South Carolina’s Medicaid enrollment site.

So instead of President Obama attempting a political deflection today, he ought to come clean with the American people about solving his namesake crisis.

Today Obama will talk about “promise zones” –just more rhetoric – instead, he should address the lies and broken promises of Obamacare. How many Americans who believe they have healthcare coverage will go to a hospital, a doctor or a clinic and find out they’re not covered?

If there’s one thing the Obama administration does well it’s smoke and mirrors. The sad thing is the administration’s obvious disdain for the American people — especially for those they profess to care — is the one thing that’s perfectly clear.

In the fifth year of his presidency, Obama will once again rail against Washington DC. He fails to understand he is the Chief Executive Officer of the United States of America — he is Washington DC. It is the failure of his policies and his own belligerence in seeking to rule, rather than govern, which has resulted in a stagnant economy. Remember that Reagan at this time had GCP growth of 7.3 percent.

Only 2.1 million have signed up for Obamacare, against a stated goal of 7 million — and just how many have actually submitted payment and received a coverage card?

While Obama struggles with his failure and runs around the room throwing a tantrum, Rome is burning.

  1. Am I, as a disgruntled American able to suppress action against the POTUS for failing to comply with the constitution? I am also a veteran that is tired of his mishandling this once great nation I served to protect.

  2. The US governing system is growing, the entitlement state is expanding, Obamacare is becoming more than an elephant in the room, it is helping to grow America as a total welfare state.

As long as a Democrat or soft Republican is in the White House the so-called Affordable Care Act is going no where, the flaws in the web site are merely delays to force a mandated system into a full single payer heath insurance system, the real goal of the Left.

Just like the big three of entitlement programs – Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid – Obamacare has created a fourth mammoth entitlement program that is increasing spending, increases dependency on government and increases the national debt. Government will grow, poverty will rise, Marxism will be increasing it’s well established roots into American society.

    • I do not consider SS. an entitlement. I have payed into it for almost 50 years, so I consider SS my own money that I am getting back. It’s too bad that most of SS money, that was supposed to be set a side for retires, has been used for anything but.

      • The fact that millions have used SS as a gateway to disability, with considerable fraud, makes it an entitlement. Yes, you are getting your money back, with no interest, limits set as to when you can have it through the regular process.

Further, an entitlement is a guarantee of access to something, such as to welfare benefits, based on established rights or by legislation. A “right” is itself an entitlement associated with a moral or social principle, such that an “entitlement” is a provision made in accordance with a legal framework of a society.

Typically, entitlements are based on concepts of principle (“rights”) which are themselves based in concepts of social equality or enfranchisement.

In the United States, an entitlement program is a type of “government program that provides individuals with personal financial benefits (or sometimes special government-provided goods or services) to which an indefinite (but usually rather large) number of potential beneficiaries have a legal right…whenever they meet eligibility conditions that are specified by the standing law that authorizes the program.

The beneficiaries of entitlement programs are normally individual citizens or residents, although sometimes organizations such as business corporations, local governments, or even political parties may have similar special ‘entitlements’ under certain programs.”

  3. I build software systems like this…we’re going to have another seven years of this mess at least. People don’t realize that bill which is a stack of paper as tall as a man is a general requirements documents. Nobody on the planet could design and implement that mess in the time these guys were given. So now they get to patch it with an incalculable number of fixes. Basically information systems has become the government’s henchmen, I know…I was one.

  4. I’ve had just the opposite problem. SSI kicked out (from April 2013 till November 2013) in November 2013 when I received my 1st regular Social Security check. Medicaid should have kicked out too. I actually broke down and did Obamacare by phone and then signed up for an account on because I had no choice in the matter. I now have a pacemaker and it’s a life or death decision for me. I chose a plan, paid for it and got my Ins. Card a few days ago. I contacted the Insurer and learned that I am still on Medicaid until January, 31st 2014. I’ve been informed that Medicaid kicks out after 90 days, hence the 3 month expiration date. I had a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) in December 2006 and filed for disability in 2007 and gave up on it; because I didn’t want to be considered disabled till age 62 and a forced early retirement. Without Social Security; I wouldn’t have been able to purchase a policy. I think Obamacare sucks but I had NO other choice in the matter. Such is life!

  5. I am a stay at home mom of a 4yr old and a 2yr old.We are a family of four. I’ve done the application a few times. Our income is $60,000 a year. When the application is done it shows we do not qualify for a subsidy, my 4yr old is denied any coverage and my son gets put on the CHIP program. Talked to CHIP, they said CHIP should have nothing to do with the Marketplace it is applied for seperate from the Marketplace. When I have spoken to the Marketplace they told me kids under 18yrs do not qualify for the subsidy? Other then that, they cannot answer any of my questions. Nor do they have access to your application even with a application # submitted. What did the government do just pull people off the street to answer calls. They know nothing and just tell me they can’t help me. I just want insurance for me and my family. We have an independent policy through BCBS, but cannot get a decent plan without a subsidy. I don’t want my kids on any state funding program, we can pay for the insurance. We just need the application to process properly to do so. When I put in my 4yr daughters age and birthdate it should not be asking me if she is pregnant? married? or filing taxes in 2014? What kind of people designed this site? How do we not qualify for a family of four under $94,000. That is what the Obamacare Marketplace chart shows. There are no pre-existing conditions. Very frustrating for so many Americans.

    • The pulled people in from ACORN….Yepper from signing people up for voting too taking all your private information for the IRS and Obozocare….

    • Try this: One only needs to use if you think you qualify for a subsidy (Tax Credit). HealthSherpa took all the info from the Obamacare website and published it. You need only to enter your zip-code, income, dependents and ages to see if you actually qualify for a subsidy. I did this site before I went to to see if I qualified for a subsidy. I did. Yours is certainly more complicated because of the Children. I wish you the best of luck~!

      • BTW: Healthsherpa outlines all the Ins. plans available from Bronze thru Platinum in your area along with deductibles, total yearly out of pocket expenses and co-pays for various services.

  6. All designed so we must go single payer?
Look at Medicaid, Medicare, Native Health care and VA at what poor service they give, and people on the left want single payer.. clueless they are.

  7. I had to go to the doctors office yesterday, and boy was I in for surprises. I was the last patient they were taking yesterday, so I got to see all the people in the waiting room and check out. Here is what I witnessed. One woman screaming and crying because she enrolled for ObamaCare a while back, but has not received an insurance card and the doctors office could not verify that she had insurance so she needed to pay out of pocket for her visit. Understandably she was upset, but it is not the doctors fault. Another woman throwing a fit because it was coming back that she has no insurance through medicaid. Since I was the last person I got to talk to the nurses and office staff while they were closing up shop, and I watched the office manager break down in tears because of the headache of ObamaCare. She said that they can’t figure out how much they ate supposed to pay, what is covered, which tier of insurance they have, if they insurance, and NOBODY can answer a single question when they call to get answers. Needless to say the doctors office is very frustrated with the system and to top it off they are getting abused by patients because they can’t get the answers or the information verified. As I was going back to my room, a lady that had been across from me earlier in the waiting room and seemed sick came out in a totally different mood. She was complete smiles. I had a feeling I knew the answer, but I had to comment that she sure was a different lady than what went in. The response…she got her prescriptions. Next time you are frustrated with ObamaCare and want to blow up at the staff at the doctors office, please remember this is not their fault and they are being yelled at everyday and getting no answers, let alone payment for their services while Washington tries to fix their mess up. If you are one of the people that wanted this crap, you definitely need to shut up and deal. Just think some of you wanted it just for the prescription medications you are addicted to.

      • Same here, except that anyone who admits out loud within earshot that they voted for obama and still happy they did, I tell them they should rot in the same place where obama belongs. Hell.

    • I’ve had the same primary care doc for over 18 years, have always been able to call with a question and someone would promptly answer the phone…not anymore…now left waiting on-hold for over 40 minutes. I dread what the waiting room will be like. But I’m not going to yell at the staff or my doc…anyone smiling about obamacare had better be prepared tho.

  8. I personally would like to know the real number of how many signed up. This seems like a ridiculously high number of people to sign up when they know it has issues. Sounds like more fraudulent numbers to me, making it look like it’s working !!

  9. You know, if a private business messed up this badly, and harmed people as much as ACA does, they would be sued and fined by the Gov’t. So who sues and fines the gov’t?

    • Nobuddy unfortainetly the goverment should be sued. Sued for stupidity. Obamacair was supposed to help people and all its doing is screwing people which i thaink is sad personally i thaink everything oboma is smoke and mirrior bullshit and he is going to do nothing but screw the american people over just my thoughts on this issue.

  10. Accessing the web site does not mean you can access a doctor . Obamacare has failed to guarantee payment and does not have a workable plan for verification of benefits .

    • Yup. obamacare can be called an “insurance policy” but it’s not anything anyone can really use or afford to use.

  11. It blows my mind that now they are blaming the republicans for obamacare failure. The republicans won’t expand medicaid in some states, it’s his law why is it still the republicans fault??? He can’t take blame for anything just a spoile little rich kid!!!

  12. I feel that due to the many damaging tentacles of the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT…more will be left uninsured than before. My daughter’s rates were hiked almost 300%…she had a decent insurance plan that she paid $64 a month….which she now has to pay $240 for and her deductible has gone from $2500 to $5550….that is NOT AFFORDABLE….and she is now another casualty that was once insured and is unable to afford it.

  13. Maddening how it’s called obamaCARE or the AFFORDABLE CARE Act when more and more people can no longer afford their co-payments for doctors and medicine and are dying or have died because of it. obama and those who voted for him are killing thousands if not, millions.

  14. Repug states which refused to set up their own exchanges, and which refused the offer of Medicare expansion, all to make it more difficult for the PPACA to work, are now complaining about the difficulties? That makes sense if you are really stupid/a repug voter. I know I’m being redundant here.

    • Many States were wise enough to understand that Medicaid expansion is going to cost them billions when the FED pulls the plug on them. Medicaid is rife with fraud as it is and that will get much worse with the Obamacare no verification policies. It’s a shame that folks think the Government is the answer to everything that ails them. The fraudsters love programs like Obamacare and that’s why they love the Democrat’s fraudulent Laws and vote for Democrats as many times as they can in one election. But Hey! I’m as guilty as you are in redundancies: Mentioning Democratic Fraud 3 times in one paragraph is only palatable & embraceable by Democratic serial voters.

  15. “ leaves 104,000 low-income folks out in the cold”…
Excellent, I can’t think of a better bunch of “Yes We Can’ers” and Obamanites for comeupins to bless …all those “usefull idiots” and minions deserve it – those responsible should suffer along with the innocent !
