DOJ finally charges knockout game suspect – who is white

According to the Washington Times, the Obama administration filed a federal hate-crimes charge Thursday against a white man accused of using the knockout game to target a black man, videotaping his assault, and then bragging about it to strangers.

The charge marks the first time the administration has taken action on a “knockout” case after the game became an Internet and media phenomenon. It chose a case in which the person accused is white, even though most other cases reported in the news have involved black assailants.

In this instance, 27-year-old Conrad Alvin Barrett is charged with assaulting a 79-year-old black man in Fulshear, Texas. The victim lost three teeth, suffered a broken jaw and had two metal plates inserted into his mouth.

“Suspected crimes of this nature will simply not be tolerated,” U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said in a statement Thursday. “Evidence of hate crimes will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted with the assistance of all our partners to the fullest extent of the law.”

I am glad the US Department of Justice has finally stepped forward but it begs the question, what took so long? Mr. Barrett is a disgusting individual but then so are all the others who were participating in this heinous crime.

New York has prosecuted one person under state hate crime laws, but it seems this is the first instance of the federal government taking action.

So does Eric Holder’s inaction regarding previous crimes involving blacks attacking whites actually reflect his own hate crime? I look at the vigilance by which Attorney General Holder went after the Civil Rights voting statute decision of the Supreme Court and State voter ID laws — yet he said nothing about the clear instance of voter fraud perpetrated in 2012 by Ohio poll worker Melowese Richardson — who voted several times for herself and relatives and was unapologetic in doing so.

The real question behind the decision to prosecute Mr. Barrett is not his actions, but rather the perception of an even more heinous double standard emanating from the Obama administration’s Department of Justice under Eric Holder – sure seems like it’s being used as a platform for the progressive socialist version of social justice.

Eric Holder won’t be happy until someone hoses and releases police dogs on a group of white people. Then he might feel he’s evened the score.

Bryan Simmons

Its obvious why this case. Holder is a liberal racist ideolog. Honestly the idea of hate crimes is absurd. We should be punishing actions rather than thoughts. The entire “hate crime” mentality is illogical and a recipe for government abuse. Is killing one person for profit, and another for hate any different? No, it isn’t and shouldn’t be punished any differently. Criminals should be treated as criminals irrespective of race, creed, color, to social status.

Thomas E Sewick

The man should be charged with a hate crime but the others also should have been but it seems that being white with a crime against you by blacks is just a crime but a white on black is hate- it is the same in both and should never be tolerated, Mr Holder is to represent justice but I see it is not blind

The suspect in question stated his intent to attack someone based on their race, he then attacked someone based on their race, he recorded the attack and showed it to others along with statements that it was based on race.
If you would check the records of the F.B.I. you would find that Blacks are charged with hate crimes at a higher rate than whites.

Karen Cook

hmmm…wonder what “race” Mr. Bikerjacket is? Dude, u r obviously not reading up on and following stats as the rest of the people here. Makes me think you have an agenda or just don’t want to admit that there r some major issues in this country and have been since Obama took office and immediately started to break promises, tell lies, and start acting like a socialist monarch instead of a US president. Just sayin…..

Of the 5,331 known offenders, 54.6 percent were white and 23.3 percent were black. The race was unknown for 11.5 percent, and other races accounted for the remaining known offenders.
http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/fbi-releases-2012-hate-crime-statistics

Blacks make up 13.1% of the us population, but 23.3% of those charged with hate crimes are black. This means they are charged at a rate that is 70% higher than the population.
Whites make up 77.9% of the population, but 54.6% are charged with hate crimes.

So, why aren’t the race baiters dealing with the black on black (most common) violence, but, instead, continue to blame whites for everything or the inanimate object they used? Your stats show blacks are committing most of the crime of which some are considered Hate Crimes.
Just look at your local news. See over and over again who is the one that committed the crimes. Over and over again, it appears to be blacks, so, I am not surprised with your manipulation of statistics.

carlbikerjacket
Guest

Actually, the stats I show reflect those charged with a crime. Just because you are charged with a crime does not mean that you committed a crime.

I did not manipulate the numbers. I provided the link to the FBI statement that gives those numbers. You are quite free to go and check them yourself. That you have not shows that you have no interest in publicly available information that may be contrary to your opinion.

What you are missing is the “pick and choose” nature of how this administration does business. It’s not just this. The great point was the federal voter fraud that happened in my home town of Cincinnati, Ohio. This dealt with a federal election and the DOJ should have been involved, but they weren’t. Many of us are actually shocked they didn’t try to impede the investigation (maybe they did and we just don’t know it). You have to enforce 100% of the law 100% of the time. It was garbage like this that went on before Obama got elected that… Read more »

Of all the indictments of blacks for “hate crimes” how many of their victims were white? I’d put money down that they were homosexual. Holder’s DOJ simply avoids at all costs prosecuting a black on white crime…especially a “hate crime.”

While I would dispute your numbers, I will just point out that out of all these crimes the only one the DOJ is getting involved in involves a white criminal. Hardly a case for a racist nation like the progressives would have us believe.

I have the same problem with “hate crime” as I do with using race terms depicting crimes against another race. A crime is a crime and should be dealt with accordingly. It is making me totally suspicious and unsupportive of government when they start choosing which crimes to prosecute based on the spin it allows them to use or to shield them from criticism from groups they are pandering to. This also happened when voters were intimidated by black panthers at poling places. If that really happened (very little coverage by biased media either way to dispute or report) and… Read more »

I feel this Administration with the help of Harry Reid, don’t care about Equal Justice or allowing the Private Sector grow because they want Americans to suffer. Just look at their actions and forget their words because they don’t know or willing not tell the truth because Americans would put up with such tyranny against the Citizens. It’s the job of the President to enforce the laws, and he is using the enforcement of laws to advance his agenda, which is in fact not his job but rather the job of Congress. Benghazi, Need for Speed, unapproved Obamacare exemptions, Immigration law (un)enforcement, gay marriage, and now this. Don’t they understand that this is just the type of garbage that turned Americans off in the first place, and it was a promise to do away with this sort of garbage that got Obama elected? This is ridicules. I am not defending Conrad Barrett in any way. What he did to that poor man he should be charged with a crime BUT so should all the others that have committed the same crime. This administration has demonstrated time and again that they do not care about public issues unless pandering to the media to forward certain agenda’s or to smoke screen real issues.

What about our freedoms that are systematically being whittled away? What about our quality of life that isn’t any better than it was 5 years ago? What about world perception?

Finally, what about our veteran and active service members being treated like 2nd class citizens while those in Washington live an imperial lifestyle?

I personally am not for hate crime laws. I believe a crime against a person should be prosecuted on it’s own merit and adding another law doesn’t make sense. Any victim of a crime didn’t suffer more or less because the suspect was of a different race. That being said, you do have to prove a hate crime. The fact that the victim and the suspect are different races in itself does not prove a hate crime. The racism of this administration is getting really, really blatant. It’s almost like they’re upping the ante on purpose, just daring people to do something. I mean, coming after Trayvon, then the publicity about blacks clocking whites, then this kid deliberately sets out to see what would happen if the races were reversed – and they take the bait? Can Eric Holder possibly make his racist policies any more obvious? Some commenters have said it seems like they’re deliberately trying to incite a race riot by whites.
