Obama sings “income inequality” song while Feds crack down on music teachers. Really?

In the face of growing criticism of Obamacare and a startling poll that says a majority of Americans under age 25 would like to see Obama thrown out of office, our Dear Leader is trying to change the conversation to “income equality” and a push for higher minimum wages. Like magic, fast food worker strikes have appeared all over the nation calling for unionization and higher wages.

As usual with the progressive agenda, it’s unions (good), entrepreneurs (bad). But of all people to target, the federal government is even going after independent music teachers.

According to Kim Strassel in the Wall Street Journal,

In March of this year, a small nonprofit in Cincinnati—the Music Teachers National Association—received a letter from the FTC. The agency was investigating whether the association was engaged in, uh, anticompetitive practices.

This was bizarre, given that the MTNA has existed since 1876 solely to advance the cause of music study and support music teachers. The 501(c)(3) has about 22,000 members, nearly 90% of them piano teachers, including many women who earn a modest living giving lessons in their homes.

According to the FTC, a provision in the Association’s Code of Ethics regarding members not actively recruit students from other teachers could be construed as an attempt to raise lesson prices. As Strassel writes, “Given that the average lesson runs around $30 an hour, and that some devoted teachers still give lessons for $5 a pop, this is patently absurd.”

Nonetheless, the Association was strong-armed into signing a consent decree, must read statements aloud at every future meeting warning members about discussing pricing, send the statement to all 22,000 members AND develop an antitrust compliance program.

But the long arm of progressivism extends to the local level as well. Last week in Portland, Oregon, 11-year-old Madison Root was barred from selling mistletoe at the Saturday Market because city code forbids unauthorized sales activity in public parks although begging, pan-handling and protesting are allowed. Root was trying to raise money to pay for her new braces.

Her story does have a happy ending, however. According to Fox News, hundreds of orders for mistletoe have poured in since her situation became public and she’s even received $1,000 in seed money for her venture.

Can there be any doubt America is turning into a socialist nation where those who are eking out a living independently are hounded and punished while the “collective” is celebrated?

These instances – and others like IRS targeting or cell-phone monitoring — may all appear to be isolated, but when you connect the dots you’re left with a very ugly picture indeed.

Geo, that’s why it is up to US, the neoconservatives to pull their collective heads out of the sand (or their heads out of their @sses) so that the blind Ostriches AKA the participants in the Democratic Party start to look around and see the real world for the way it really is, and not for the imaginary way they believe it to be. I’m still looking at it from the fascist/hitler aspect, but I guess we’ll see.
As Stalin once said, the way to overthrow America is not from invasion but from within: 1. first take away all their guns, 2. take all their churches away so they cannot worship God, and 3. take away their liberties and a revolution will form.

Can we stop with the talk of progressivism already? It’s COMMUNISM and dear leader is trying to incite the masses to violence in an effort to declare marshal law and become dictator for life. You would have to be blind to history in order to ignore the signs all around us.

Hate to correct, but it is “Martial”, the Marshall Doctrine was the rebuilding of Japan and the South Pacific Islands after WW2, maybe Europe, too. I’d have to look into it; but, yes, that’s exactly what he wants. Violence to beget violence to support HIS violence. He thought he was going to get it Oct. 1, it didn’t happen and it has really ticked them off. Question is, just what do they have planned for next? We must beat them intellectually first, then force with force if necessary.

You sound just a bit bigoted sir. Also strangely, during the 1920’s in german-speaking Austria and in Germany, the anti-Semite sentiment was building the whole time…and naturally this lead to the holocaust. I sure as heck hope that doesn’t ever happen again, especially in America where we are supposed to be tolerant of everything: race, religion, gender, sexuality, etc.

The only reason I think it is coming to this is because China and their very, very low income workers stole our lunch money a long time ago. I had suggested a “cap” on CEO’s of 500:1. Some of the richest CEO’s in America, like the Walmart CEO are making ~1,000:1 and others 1,200:1 and paying their workers minimum wage without benefits which is leaving a lot in poverty. Who am I to say though that they should not work elsewhere or work two jobs because perhaps that is the answer after losing out to the Chinese worker for years because he will work for far less than our minimum wage. Nevertheless, rather than raising minimum wage or demanding businesses to provide a “living wage” whatever that is,… Read more »

I really don’t believe putting a cap on CEO’s pay is going to do anything. Nice idea though. Raising the minimum pay to $15,,,the employers will raise their prices. McDonald’s already said if the minimum wage is raised to $15 they will have to raise their prices by 20%. Years ago those type of jobs were usually were the kids went to work. actually there is a law in effect from something one of my boys told me and stuff I looked up in the internet that makes it illegal to not garner the maximum profit possible for the investors of a corporation. Which means that if paying less than a living wage can garner more profit they will do so unless it can be proven that paying more can generate more profit.
Somewhere along the line corporations have loss track of the fact that more workers with more money to spend actually means that workers also become customers.

Whatever
Guest

This has been tried, and it doesn’t work. The reason some CEO’s earn so much money is because few people can do their jobs. And they know it. When your idea was tried, the companies could no longer attract the best and brightest, and the CEO they obtained at that salary cause the companies to fail.

You are falling for the lie that wealth is finite and that what the CEO’s earn effect what you earn and this is simply untrue. Every CEO in the country could give up 100% of their earnings and it would not help one bit. It is time for individuals to understand that only YOU can put yourself into the position of earning more. Minimum wage is supposed to be a starting wage, if you have been working for more than a year and are still making minimum wage YOU are the problem, not your employer. Everyone who did in home day care was forced to license their “business” and follow all the government rules, all the way down to the lunch menu. It also allowed social workers to investigate any of these home care providers with no warning at all. Which led to home day care providers leaving the business, forcing parents to take their children to the far more expensive and crowded day care centers where their child was institutionalized from birth. some one let them get away with the first illegal step and the next step just fell in line. no one seams to be fighting back on the small stuff like not following the constitution. I guess that is why they are called progressives… they are set on progressively destroying the nation under God. where did people think it was going to end up? Everyone sitting on a couch watching satalite TV and waiting for there next government hand out. Well now you know what happened to Russia… Or do you?
