In what could be seen as a severe case of very bad karma, the North Carolina stripper who falsely accused a group of Duke lacrosse players of rape in 2006 is headed to prison after being convicted for stabbing her boyfriend to death. Sometimes stories just slip under the national radar screen, but I believe in this case, it’s intentional
According to the New York Daily News,
Crystal Gail Mangum, 34, was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in prison on the second-degree murder charge.
Mangum stabbed Reginald Daye, 46, on April 3, 2011, as the couple fought. She claimed the stabbing was in self-defense and that he was beating her when she snatched the kitchen knife and “poked him in the side.” Mr. Daye died 10 days later from his stab wounds.
The 2011 stabbing in Durham, N.C., came five years after Mangum falsely accused members of the Duke lacrosse team of raping her at a party where she’d been hired to perform as a stripper. The case became one of the most racially charged trials in recent memory before the prosecutor was ultimately disbarred, and the three accused men were declared innocent.
Remember the incessant national media coverage and the prejudice cast upon those lacrosse players, and the coach who lost his job.? Once again, the usual race-baiting suspects came out of their holes and ruined the lives of innocent young men. So reminiscent of the Tawana Brawley case. Does anyone believe the lack of national coverage of Ms. Mangum’s conviction and sentencing was by accident? Hypocrisy, oh the hypocrisy.
