T-V Football Lamentations

Today is normally my day for stress relief but I am truly on edge. My undergraduate alma mater, University of Tennessee, plays Vanderbilt today in Knoxville. Something has happened these past two years, which is more unimaginable than President Obama actually resigning. Vandy has beat Tennessee two years in a row. I am truly concerned that it could be a three-peat.

I am already looking at the possibility of Army losing for the twelfth straight year to Navy. So yep, I’m gonna be on edge today. However, I do have belief that my Masters alma mater, Kansas State, will stay on a winning streak and beat the Oklahoma Sooners in Manhattan, the Little Apple, EMAW!

The big game in college football today without a doubt is the Baylor Bears traveling to Stillwater Oklahoma to face the Cowboys of Oklahoma State — should be a doozy. I don’t think anyone remembers the last time Baylor won up there in Stillwater, but we will after this evening.

Pro football? Well, my lamentations return as my hometown Atlanta Falcons who were 14-2 last season lost to our rivals the New Orleans Saints and fell to 2-9. Oh, the horror. So I guess my thrill will be seeing the Brady-Manning XIV game Sunday night. Ol’ Tom Brady was sure mad about the end of that Carolina Panthers game last week. We’ll see if that anger propels the New England Patriots to a victory over the Denver Broncos who are on a serious hot hand.

Ok, that’s my summary for the weekend of football. Let me know, who has been your biggest disappointment this football season, college or professional?

Well……..I had to leave UT because there were no combat arms ROTC scholarships available – but Vandy had plenty since everyone there wanted to be doctors, dentist, etc. – so I guess I am a true ridge runner. I was at Vandy in ’84 when they beat UT and Bama and went to the Peach Bowl. Still bleeding orange, but it has been painful the last three years……..

I don’t think Vandy has beat UT in K-town since 2005 – when Jay Cutler was QB – (I was at that game) – it is a little harder to win on the road at Rocky top. Butch Jones will do OK – he will sign some good players and get it done. UT was sleepwalking in the first quarter – the O-line let Vandy block a field goal and may cost them the game.

I love your posts! We actually agree totally in the political arena…Sorry my friend. My Dad’s alma mater…USNA …and yes I believe it could be a clean sweep for Navy!!Still in the end, it’s easy to root for all those young men and women on the field at the end of the game…the one and only day of each year that they stand on opposing sides. My other team, Dallas Cowboys has more talent than any one team should be allowed, but they always seem to be at least 3 OL’s and a general manager short!!! They have not had… Read more »
